Newborn dog chymosin was extracted from the stomachs of dogs of 2 weeks of age, and was purified by ion exchange chromatography. Half of the sequence was determined by amino acid sequencing and the complete sequence was deduced from a cloned chymosin cDNA Results showed that the zymogen showed 79% sequence identity with calf prochymosin and 54% identity with porcine pepsinogen A The size of the propart and location of the residue which becomes the amino-terminus in the active enzyme was the same in the prochymosins. The maximum general proteolytic activity at pH 3.2 of newborn dog chymosin was 3-4% of that of porcine pepsin A at pH 2, whereas the milk clotting activity relative to the general proteolytic activity of newborn dog chymosin was much higher than that of calf chymosin. Agar gel electrophoresis at pH 5.2 of stomach extracts of individual dogs showed the existence of two predominant genetic variants of zymogen and enzyme. The two variants could not be distinguished by amino acid composition or amino-terminal sequencing, and no differences in the enzymatic properties of the genetic variants were observed. It was concluded that of the residues that participate in the substrate binding, calf and newborn dog chymosin differ in the following positions (porcine pepsin numbering, subsites in parentheses) : Ser 12 Thr(S$_4$), Leu 30 Val(S$_1$/S$_3$), His 74 Gln(S'$_2$), Val 111 Ile(S$_1$/S$_3$), Lys 220 Met(S$_4$). With regard to the low general proteolytic activity of newborn dog chymosin, the substitution Asp303 Val relative to calf chymosin may contribute to an explanation of this.
The fusion of nano technology and information technology is essential to sustain the present growth rate and to induce new industry in this ever-growing information age. Considering Korean industry whose competitiveness lies heavily on information related technologies, this field will be inevitable for future. Nano materials can be described as novel materials whose size of elemental structure has been engineered at the nanometer scale. Materials in the nanometer size range exhibit fundamentally new behavior, as their size falls below the critical length scale associated with any given property. " Bottom-up' techniques involve manipulating individual atoms and molecules. Bottom-up process usually implies controlled or directed self assembly of atoms and molecules into nano structures. It resembles more closely the processes of biology and chemistry, where atoms and molecules come together to create structures such as crystals or living cells. Nano scale sensors are included in the electronics area since the diverse sensing mechanisms are often housed on a semiconductor substrate and usually give rise to an electronic signal. The application of nano technology to the chemical sensors should allow improvements in functionality such as gas sensing. In this presentation, we will discuss about the nano scale information materials and devices fabricated by using the organic/inorganic nano templates.

The purpose of this study is to investigate fluoride release in the oral cavity from polymer adhesive tape which is NaF coated PVA. 45 healthy adults were divided into 3 groups by the type of topical fluoride applied: 60seconds taste$^{(R)}$ APF gel (group 1), FluoroDose$^{(R)}$ varnish (group 2) and NaF-PVA (group 3). Topical fluoride was applied to the facial surface of maxillary 12 teeth and unstimulated whole saliva was collected to measure fluoride release after 1, 3, 6, 12, 24, and 48 hours. Fluoride-sensitive electrode was used for measuring the fluoride concentration in the saliva samples. All three groups showed significantly higher value for fluoride concentration than the baseline after 1 and 3 hours (p < 0.05). After 6 hours, group 3 showed significantly higher fluoride concentration than the baseline (p < 0.05) and also showed significantly higher value for fluoride concentration than group 1 and group 2. Between group 1 and group 2, however, there was no significant difference statistically with respect to fluoride concentration value (p > 0.05).
In this study, silane-crosslinked organic/inorganic composite membranes were prepared by simultaneous irradiation grafting of binary monomer mixtures (styrene and 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate (TMSPM)) with various compositions onto a poly(ethylene-alt-tetraethylene) (ETFE) film and followed by sol-gel processing and sulfonation to provide a silane-crosslinked structure and a proton conducting ability, respectively. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) were utilized to confirm the crosslinking of ETFE-g-PS/PTMSPM films. The prepared membranes with similar ion exchange capacity but a different TMSPM content were selected and their membrane properties were compared. The ETFE-g-PSSA/PTMSPM membranes were characterized by water uptake, dimensional stability, and proton conductivity after sulfonation. The membrane electrode assemblies (MEA) of the prepared membranes were fabricated and their single cell performances were measured.
Two fractions of pectinesterase from Chinese cabbage were isolated by ammonium sulfate fractionation, ion exchange chromatography on DEAE-cellulose and Sephadex G-150 gel filtration. The fraction F-A and F-B were purified approximately 340- and 10-fold. The similar salt effects and pH optima (pH 7.5-8.0) were obtained for the two pectinesterase fractions. The maximum activity of both two. fractions were obtained at 20-50mM of divalent rations and at 250mM of monovalent rations. The apparent Michaelis constant of the F-A was 0.01% for citrus pectin. The temperature optima for F-A and F-B were $48^{\circ}$ and $55^{\circ}C$, respectively and both fractions were stable in the region of pH 5.0-8.0 at room temperature. The thermal inactivation of the two fractions followed the first order reaction kinetics. From D and Z-values obtained the thermal resistance of the two fractions were characterized.

Water-soluble polysaccharide (FCW) was extracted from the fruiting body of Fomitella fraxinea with neutral sodium chloride solution. The polysaccharide was further fractionated into FCW-I and FCW-II by ion exchange chromatography. The FCW-I and FCW-II were then purified by gel permeation chromatography and named as FCW-Ia and FCW-IIa, respectively. FCW-IIa showed relatively strong immuno-stimulating activity but FCW-Ia did not. By analyses of HPLC and GPC, FCW-Ia and FCW-IIa were identified to be homogeneous and their molecular weights were estimated to be about 15,000 and 8,700, respectively. FCW-Ia consisted of fucose, galactose, and mannose as main sugars and their molar ratio was 19.5 : 63.2 : 25.0. Protein was not detected in FCW-Ia. However, FCW-IIa was composed of glucose, galactose, and mannose at a molar ratio of 1.0 : 0.3 : 0.4 and contained 0.4% protein with a higher amount of glutamic acid. A small amount of uronic acid was detected in both FCW-Ia and FCW-IIa.
$Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ is a promising next-generation anode material for lithium-ion batteries due to excellent cycle life, low irreversible capacity, and little volume expansion during charge-discharge process. However, it has poor charge capacity at high current density due to its low electrical conductivity. To improve this weakness, porous $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ was synthesized by sol-gel method with P123 as chelating agent. The physical characteristics of as-prepared sample was investigated by XRD, SEM, and BET analysis, and electrochemical properties were characterized by cycle performance test, cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ synthesized by 0.01mol ratio of P123/Ti showed most unified particle size, high specific surface area, and relatively high porosity. EIS analysis showed that depressed semicircle size was remarkably reduced, which suggested resistance value in electrode was decreased. Capacity in rate performance showed 178 mAh/g at 0.2C, 170 mAh/g at 0.5C, 110 mA/h at 5C, and 90 mAh/g at 10C. Capacity retention also showed 99% after rate performance.
Active lipase-producing bacterium Burkholderia gladioli Bps-1 was rapidly isolated using a modified trypan blue and tetracycline, ampicillin plate. The electro-phoretically pure enzyme was obtained by purification using ethanol precipitation, ion-exchange chromatography, and gel filtration chromatography. The molecular weight was 34.6 kDa and the specific activity was determined to be 443.9 U/mg. The purified lipase showed the highest activity after hydrolysis with $p-NPC_{16}$ at a pH of 8.5 and $50^{\circ}C$, and the $K_m$, $k_{cat}$, and $k_{cat}/K_m$ values were 1.05 mM, $292.95s^{-1}$ and $279s^{-1}mM^{-1}$, respectively. The lipase was highly stable at $7.5{\leq}pH{\leq}10.0$. $K^+$ and $Na^+$ exerted activation effects on the lipase which had favorable tolerance to short-chain alcohols with its residual enzyme activity being 110% after being maintained in 30% ethanol for 1 h. The results demonstrated that the lipase produced by the strain B. gladioli Bps-1 has high enzyme activity and is an alkaline lipase. The lipase has promising chemical properties for a range of applications in the food-processing and detergent industries, and has particularly high potential for use in the manufacture of biodiesel.

In this study, the durability of ultra rapid hardening mortar for sewage pipe was evaluated by type of mortar binder. As a result of analyzing the internal structure for each type of mortar, it was confirmed that Al2(OH)3 was generated in the internal structure of the CAC-based mortar, and its corrosion resistance was superior to that of other types of mortar. As a result of the compressive strength test, OPC had the tsmallest strength, followed by CAC100 > CAC100P > CAC80. This trend was similar to the previous study results. Chloride ion penetration resistance and freeze-thaw test showed similar trends. That is, CAC and C12A7 were better than OPC, and CSA was worse than OPC. This is mostly beacuse of cracks caused by expansion of CSA-based mortar. CAC100P mix showed the best chemical resistance. It is thought that this is because the alumina gel formed inside the mortar and the polymer combine to make the internal structure more dense.
