The IoT industry is growing at a record growth rate every year, but developers face practical problems such as security, data storage, and heterogeneity between devices before developing an IoT platform. In particular, heterogeneity between devices occurs due to network type and protocol, and device firmware must be changed or multiple IoT platforms must be used in some cases. In addition, data is wasted due to redundant sensing due to the overflow of indiscriminate IoT devices. In this paper, we propose a device-independent firmware design to solve the heterogeneity between devices in the IoT platform environment where Local WAS uses the MQTT protocol.

Public key cryptography (PKC) is the basic building block for the cryptography applications such as encryption, key distribution, and digital signature scheme. Among many PKC, elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) is the most widely used in IT systems. Recently, very efficient Montgomery-Twisted-Edward (MoTE)-ECC was suggested, which supports low complexity for the finite field arithmetic, group operation, and scalar multiplication. However, we cannot directly adopt the MoTE-ECC to new PKC systems since the cryptography is not fully evaluated in terms of performance on the Internet of Things (IoT) platforms, which only supports very limited computation power, energy, and storage. In this paper, we fully evaluate the MoTE-ECC implementations on the representative IoT devices (16-bit MSP processors). The implementation is highly optimized for the target platform and compared in three different factors (ROM, RAM, and execution time). The work provides good reference results for a gradual transition from legacy ECC to MoTE-ECC on emerging IoT platforms.

As the use of various IoT devices increases, the importance of IoT platforms is also rising. Recently, artificial intelligence technology is being combined with IoT devices, and research applying a neuromorphic architecture to IoT devices with low power is also increasing. In this paper, an application scenario is proposed based on NA-IDE (Neuromorphic Architecture-based autonomous IoT application integrated development environment) with IoT devices and FPGA devices in a GUI format. The proposed scenario connects a camera module to an IoT device, collects MNIST dataset images online, recognizes the collected images through a neuromorphic board, and displays the recognition results through a device module connected to other IoT devices. If the neuromorphic architecture is applied to many IoT devices and used for various application services, the autonomous IoT application integrated development environment based on the neuromorphic architecture is expected to emerge as a core technology leading the 4th industrial revolution.
Since the end devices of the Internet of Things (IoT) are battery operated products, careful consideration for ultra-low power (ULP) is required. The Micro Controller Unit (MCU) industry has developed very effective functions to save energy, but developers have difficulty in selecting the MCU because various operating modes are applied to reduce energy consumption by manufacturers. Therefore, this paper introduces ULPMark benchmark, a standardized benchmark method that can compare MCUs of various vendors and feature sets, and provides hardware functions for ultra-low-power operation of the two platforms that received the high evaluation scores from ULPMark. In addition, we investigated and analyzed how developers can utilize the functions for ultra low power consumption through driver APIs and detailed register control.

In order to solve the urban problems caused by the increase of the urban population, the construction of smart city applying the latest technology is being carried out all over the world. In particular, we will create a smart city platform that utilizes data generated in the city to collect and store and analyze, thereby enhancing the city's continuous competitiveness and resilience and enhancing the quality of life of citizens. However, existing smart city platforms are not enough to construct a platform for smart city as a platform for solution elements such as IoT platform, big data platform, and AI platform. To complement this, we will reanalyze the existing overseas smart city platform and IoT platform in a comprehensive manner, combine the technical elements applied to it, and apply it to the future Korean smart city platform. This paper aims to investigate the trends of smart city platforms used in domestic and foreign countries and analyze the technology applied to smart city to study smart city platforms that solve various problems of the city such as environment, energy, safety, traffic, environment.

To realize the vision of internet of things (IoT), where it is expected to bring significant impact to the global economy in the future, consideration of business models in the IoT context is necessary. This research attempts to build an enhanced artifact business model framework based on the definitions of IoT and literature on business models for analysis of IoT businesses. The framework is used to analyze four different types of players: the owner of things, vendors of devices, providers of connectivity and providers of IoT application services. The findings suggest that the owners of things tend to partner with ICT players to complement their weakness, and it tends to be connectivity providers. The device vendors leverage their strength of devices and device platforms to attract and enable 3rd party sensor/devices to interconnect, while the service providers are aiming to penetrate into customer premise. These lead to the following recommendations for non-IT players to consider in expanding into IoT business: 1) take into account differences in product development process between IT and non-IT businesses in expanding into IoT market; 2) collaborate with ICT players that acknowledge and understand the differences.

In this paper, we propose a machine learning-based method for supporting resource management of IoT software platforms in a multi-modal sensing scenario. We assume that an IoT device installed with a oneM2M-compatible software platform is connected with various sensors such as PIR, sound, dust, ambient light, ultrasonic, accelerometer, through different embedded system interfaces such as general purpose input output (GPIO), I2C, SPI, USB. Based on a collected dataset including CPU usage and user-defined priority, a machine learning model is trained to estimate the level of nice value required to adjust according to the resource usage patterns. The proposed method is validated by comparing with a rule-based control strategy, showing its practical capability in a multi-modal sensing scenario of IoT devices.
IoT is attracting attention as the development of the Internet and the spread of smart devices are rapidly increasing worldwide. As IoT is integrated into everyday life, the market is getting bigger. So, experts predict that IoT devices will grow to more than one trillion in a decade. Techniques related to IoT are also being developed steadily, and studies are underway to develop IoT in various fields. However, vendors launching IoT services do not interact with data from other platforms. Therefore, it is limited to growing into a big market by facing the obstacle called the silo phenomenon. To solve this problem, web technology attracts attention. Web technology can interact with data regardless of platform, and it can not only develop various services using the data, but also reduce unnecessary costs for developers. In this paper, we have studied a web - based open IoT system that can transmit data independently in real time to the IoT platform.
An Internet of Things (IoT) is a system where various "things" are connected to each other via a wired/wireless network, and where information is gathered, processed, and interchanged/shared. One of the important actors in IoT is a mobile IoT device (such as a smartphone or tablet). These devices tend to consume a large amount of power in order to provide various high performance application services; however, as the devices cannot be supplied with power all the time, efficient power management is necessary. Power management of mobile IoT devices involves complex relationships between various entities such as application processors (APs), HW modules inside/outside AP, operating systems, mobile IoT platforms, and applications. In order to develop power-efficient mobile IoT devices, a method is needed to systematically analyze these relationships and manage power based on a clear understanding of them. To address this problem, software engineering principles for the development of power-efficient mobile IoT devices are presented in this paper. The feasibility of the proposed principles have been validated in the domain of smartphone camera power management.
