  • Despite the 12-year KNA breastfeeding campaign, the declining trend in the national breastfeeding rate has not been significantly reversed. Purpose: This investigation focused on mothers' decision to breastfeed and the physical growth profiles of breastfed infants. Methods: Participants were 146 mothers and their 5-7 months old infants participating the "Year 2005 Healthy Breastfed Baby Contest." Data were collected through interviews with mothers on their breastfeeding practice and assessment of infant growth profiles by the investigators. Results: Concerning breastfeeding practice, 76% of mothers decided to breastfeed even before their pregnancy and 92% intended to breastfeed a year or as long as baby wants and 52% planned to breastfeed solely by self-motivation from reading. The growth profiles of breastfed infants showed that for WAZ (weight-for-age Z-scores), LAZ (length-for-age Z-scores) and HCAZ (head circumference-for-age Z-scores) the breastfed infants were above the WHO percentiles for their age. Conclusion: Considering that the mothers planned to breastfeed even before pregnancy and that the physical growth of the breastfed infants was above WHO standards, the authors recommend that in future campaigns the focus should be on families who plan to have a baby.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the implicit knowledge of creativity and education practice of creativity perceived by undergraduate students. Participants were 425 undergraduate students from around the greater metropolitan area of Seoul. The results of this study were as follows: (1) Most undergraduate students considered creativity as creative thinking or creative product rather than creative personality and creative environment. Undergraduate students placed originality as the most important subfactor of creativity. Scientists were ranked as the most creative people, followed by executives, and then artists. Interestingly contemporary Korean undergraduate students recognized and evaluated creativity as positive. (2) Most undergraduate students recognized the needs and importance of creativity-fostered education. These aspects of education have meaningful differences according to gender, as female students viewed creativity-fostered education more important. (3) Undergraduate students considered creative persons to be imaginative, independent, and confident. The most important part of developing undergraduate students' creativity was to make more creative environments. It has been suggested that the benefit of creative environments should be taken into consideration when developing creativity-enhancing programs and education for undergraduate students more generally.

  • This paper describes the evaluation of shield TBM disc cutter penetration depth in practice. In this study the disc cutter penetration depth used to design the excavation speed of tunnel is reviewed. The characteristics of ground encountered in the investigation site are analysed and evaluated. The shield TBM used in the field is reviewed to verify the applicability of machine in the site. The thrust and torque capacities of each TBM disc cutter are also evaluated. Based on the field data, the excavation volume and speed are re-analysed to evaluate the disc cutter penetration depth used in the design stage. It is clearly found that the design value of disc cutter penetration depth needs to modify when estimation of the TBM capacities in very hard rock formation ($S_c$ >150 MPa).

  • The aim of this study is to find the effect of action learning on the problem solving process of nursing students during the clinical practice of nursing management. A total of 99 senior nursing students participated in this study. Data was collected from May 2006 to October 2007 and statistical analysis for paired t-test was performed on the data using SPSS/WIN 14.0. The results of the data show that there was a significant increase in the problem solving process for nursing students after the implementation of action learning(t=-4.718, p=.000). In the problem solving process, there was a significant increase in definition of problem(t=-4.123, p=.004), design of problem solution(t=-2.973, p=.002), execution of problem solution(t=-3.264, p=.000) and investigation of problem solving(t=-3.677, p=.000). The only exception in the problem solving process was detection of problem(t=-1.858, p=.066). Therefore, action learning provides nursing students a new alternative for improving the problem solving process and clinical adaptability after graduating from nursing school.

  • Background: Helicobacter pylori infection and premalignant gastric mucosa can be reliably identified using conventional narrow band imaging (C-NBI) gastroscopy. The aim of our study was to compare standard biopsy with site specific biopsy for diagnosis of H. pylori infection and premalignant gastric mucosa in daily clinical practice. Materials and Methods: Of a total of 500 patients who underwent gastroscopy for investigation of dyspeptic symptoms, 250 patients underwent site specific biopsy using C-NBI (Group 1) and 250 standard biopsy (Group 2). Sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values were assessed. The efficacy of detecting H. pylori associated gastritis and premalignant gastric mucosa according to the updated Sydney classification was also compared. Results: In group 1 the sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values for predicting H. pylori positivity were 95.4%, 97.3%, 98.8% and 90.0% respectively, compared to 92.9%, 88.6%, 83.2% and 76.1% in group 2. Site specific biopsy was more effective than standard biopsy in terms of both H. pylori infection status and premalignant gastric mucosa detection (P<0.01). Conclusions: Site specific biopsy using C-NBI can improve detection of H. pylori infection and premalignant gastric mucosa in daily clinical practice.

  • Purpose: Immediate loading of dental implants has been proved to be feasible in partially edentulous jaws. The purpose of this retrospective investigation was to assess the feasibility of immediately loading dental implants in fully edentulous jaws. Methods: A total of 24 patients aged between 53 and 89 years received a total of 154 implants in their edentulous maxillae or mandibles. Among the implants, 45 were set in fresh extracted sockets and 109 in consolidated alveolar bones. The implants were provisionally managed with chair-side made provisional resin bridges and exposed to immediate loading. Implants were followed up for 1-8 years, including radiographic imaging. Marginal bone levels were evaluated based on radiographic imaging. Results: A total of 148 out of the 154 implants survived over the follow-up period of 1 to 8 years, giving a survival rate of 96%. The time or region of the implantation, the pre-implant augmentation, and the length and diameter of the implants had no statistically significant influence on the survival or the success rate. The marginal bone level remained stable with only minimal loss of 0.3 mm after 60 months of loading. Conclusions: Within the limitations of this study, immediate loading is feasible for dental implants in edentulous jaws.
