Recently, heavy rainfalls due to the climate change in Korea have caused inundation problems in urban sewer networks. In july 2006, a flooding accident at Misari motorboat racing stadium near the Han river occurred due to the effect of record-breaking outflow discharge from Paldang-dam. The purpose of this study was to simulate and analyze the flooding accident at Misari stadium by MOUSE model. The results of simulation analysis indicated that the total flood volume was $1,313,450m^3$. The effect of back water was 85.9% of the total volume which was caused by the manhole accident, and the effect of accumulated runoff was 14.1% of total volume which was caused by non-return valve shutdown. The simulation results of this MOUSE modeling that was linked to the boundary condition of the dynamic flows in the river by DWOPER model showed the potential of successful inundation analysis for sewer networks.

The ability of remote sensing and GIS technique, which used to provide valuable informations in the time and space domain, has been known to be very useful in providing permanent records by mapping and monitoring flooded area. In 2000, floods were at the worst stage of devastation in Tonle Sap Lake, Mekong River Basin, for the second time in records during July and October. In this study, Landsat ETM+ and RADARSAT imagery were used to obtain the basic information on computation of the inundation area and volume using ISODATA classifier and segmentation technique. However, the extracted inundatton area showed only a small fraction than the actually inundated area because of clouds in the imagery and complex ground conditions. To overcome these limitations, the cost-distance method of GIS was used to estimate the inundated area at the peak level by integrating the inundated area from satellite imagery in corporation with digital elevation model (DEM). The estimated inundation area was simply converted with the inundation volume using GIS. The inundation volume was compared with the volume based on hydraulic modeling with MIKE 11. which is the most poppular among the dynamic river modeling system. The method is suitable for estimating inundation volume even when Landsat ETM+ has many clouds in the imagery.
In this study, it has been intended to present the ways to improve some problems such as the difficulty of using the program which had got from the existing study, the computation and application of a lot of parameter and the complicated processing which need to be more simplified. Also It has been tried to bring up the ways to make a flood inundation map and a detailed inundation analysis which could reduce the risk factors. We selected an Anseong-Cheon basin, and wrote a flood inundation scenario based on extreme flood to exceed the planned frequency to consider only overflow and levee break and executed inundation simulation. Researchers conducted an analysis of overflow and levee break using function of HEC-RAS Storage with a One-Dimensional model. It applied Elevation versus Volume Curve for more correct inundation simulation than a method of Area-Time-Depth which used in popular. This study will suggest a mathematical method of SURFER with a little difference of inundation area more simplified and precise flood inundation than complicated Arcview 3.2a which used Query method of Arcview 3.2a.

In this study, flood inundations have been simulated by using the numerical model FLUMEN solving the shallow-water equations with a finite volume method. Before applying to a real problem, the numerical model is first applied to simplified problems. Obtained numerical results are verified by comparing to available analytical solutions and laboratory measurements. Reasonable agreements are observed. The model is then applied to a simulation of flood events with real geometries. The results of the present study provide basic informations for a flood inundation map.

The objective of this study is to analyze the flood inundation in a low-lying rural area. The study watershed selected for this study includes the Il-Pae and Ahn-Gok watersheds. It is located in the Namyangju, Korea and encompasses $3.64km^2$. A major flood event that occurred in July 2011 was chosen as the case for the flood inundation analysis. The Hydrologic Engineering Center's Hydrologic Modeling System (HEC-HMS) and River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) were used to simulate flood runoff and water surface elevation at each cross-section, respectively. The watershed topographic, soil, and land use data were processed using the GIS (Geographic Information System) tool for the models. The contribution to the total flood volume was estimated based on the results simulated by HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS. The results showed that the overflow discharge from the Il-Pae stream constituted 80% of the total flood volume. The contributions of rainfall falling directly on the inundation area and overflow discharge from the Ahn-Gok stream were 15 % and 5 %, respectively. The simulation results in different levee scenarios for the Ahn-Gok stream were also compared. The results indicated that the levee could reduce the flood volume a little bit.

Extreme rainfall will become intense due to climate change, increasing inundation risk to agricultural land. Hydrological and hydraulic simulations for the entire watershed were conducted to analyze the impact of climate change. Rainfall data was collected based on past weather observation and SSP (Shared Socio-economic Pathway)5-8.5 climate change scenarios. Simulation for flood volume, reservoir operation, river level, and inundation of agricultural land was conducted through K-HAS (KRC Hydraulics & Hydrology Analysis System) and HEC-RAS (Hydrologic Engineering Center - River Analysis System). Various scenarios were selected, encompassing different periods of rainfall data, including the observed period (1973-2022), near-term future (2021-2050), mid-term future (2051-2080), and long-term future (2081-2100), in addition to probabilistic precipitation events with return periods of 20 years and 100 years. The inundation area of the Aho-Buin district was visualized through GIS (Geographic Information System) based on the results of the flooding analysis. The probabilistic precipitation of climate change scenarios was calculated higher than that of past observations, which affected the increase in reservoir inflow, river level, inundation time, and inundation area. The inundation area and inundation time were higher in the 100-year frequency. Inundation risk was high in the order of long-term future, near-term future, mid-term future, and observed period. It was also shown that the Aho and Buin districts were vulnerable to inundation. These results are expected to be used as fundamental data for assessing the risk of flooding for agricultural land and downstream watersheds under climate change, guiding drainage improvement projects, and making flood risk maps.

Floods have become more widespread and frequent among natural disasters and consisted significant losses of lives and properties worldwide. Flood's impacts are threatening socio-economic and people's lives in the Mekong River Basin every year. The objective of this study is to identify the flood hazard areas and inundation depth in the Mekong River Basin. A rainfall-runoff and flood inundation model is necessary to enhance understanding of characteristic of flooding. Rainfall-Runoff-Inundation (RRI) model, a two-dimensional model capable of simulating rainfall-runoff and flood inundation simultaneously, was applied in this study. HydoSHEDS Topographical data, APPRODITE precipitation, MODIS land use, and river cross section were used as input data for the simulation. The Shuffled Complex Evolution (SCE-UA) global optimization method was integrated with RRI model to calibrate the sensitive parameters. In the present study, we selected flood event in 2000 which was considered as 50-year return period flood in term of discharge volume of 500 km3. The simulated results were compared with observed discharge at the stations along the mainstream and inundation map produced by Dartmouth Flood Observatory and Landsat 7. The results indicated good agreement between observed and simulated discharge with NSE = 0.86 at Stung Treng Station. The model predicted inundation extent with success rate SR = 67.50% and modified success rate MSR = 74.53%. In conclusion, the RRI model was successfully used to simulate rainfall runoff and inundation processes in the large scale Mekong River Basin with a good performance. It is recommended to improve the quality of the input data in order to increase the accuracy of the simulation result.
An adaptive cut-cell grid based 2D inundation analysis model, K-Flood, is developed in this study. Cut cell grid method divides a grid into a flow area and a non-flow area depending the characteristics of the flows. With adaptive mesh refinement technique cut cell method can represent complex flow area using relatively small number of cells. In recent years, the urban inundation modeling using high resolution and fine quality data is increasing to achieve more accurate flood analysis or flood forecasting. K-Flood has potential to simulate such complex urban inundation using efficient grid generation technique. A finite volume numerical scheme of second order accuracy for space and time was applied. For verification of K-Flood, 1) shockwave reflex simulation by circular cylinder, 2) urban flood experiment simulation, 3) Malpasset dam collapse simulation are performed and the results are compared with observed data and previous simulation results.

Population and development are concentrated by urbanization. Consequently, the usage of underground area and the riverside area have been increased. By increasing impermeable layer, the urban basin drainage is depending on level of sewer. Flood damage is occurred by shortage of sewer capacity and poor interior drainage at river stage. Many of researches about flood stress the unavailability of connection at the river stage with the internal inundation organically. In this study, flood calculated considering rainfall and combined inland-river. Also, using urban runoff model analyze the overflow of sewer. By using results of SWMM model, using flood inundation analysis model analyzed internal drainage efficiency of drainage system. Applying SWMM model, which results to flood inundation analysis model, analyzes internal drainage efficiency of drainage system under localized heavy rain in a basin of the city. The results of SWMM model show the smoothness of internal drainage can be impossible to achieve because of the influence of the river level and sewer overflow appearing. The main manholes were selected as the manhole of a lot of overflow volume. Overflow reduction scenarios were selected for expansion of sewer conduit and instruction retention pond. Overflow volume reduces to 45% and 33~64% by retention pond instruction and sewer conduit expansion. In addition, the results of simulating of flood inundation analysis model show the flood occurrence by road runoff moving along the road slope. Flooded area reduces to 19.6%, 60.5% in sewer conduit expansion scenarios.
