The Internet is flourishing and the World Wide Web is growing at an exponential rate. A fundamental concept of Intranet, the so-called second wave, was introduced only a few years ago. Intranets have been embraced by corporate users of information services and made substantial inroads in strategic vision documents and procurement practices. Business organizations have come to the conclusion that they require an extensive data repository in order to acquire a competitive advantage in a dynamically change market. This rich assortment of data must further be delivered and deliverable enterprise-wide in a secure and cost-efficient manner. Information technology(IT) has created the Intranet as a vitally important mechanism for the storage, dissemination, and even the analysis data. The present study is an attempt to develop a more through understanding of the potential and actual impact of the Intranet on organizational functions and activities. Expecially, it also consists of an effort to assess the impact of the Intranet on communication. The research also addresses the issue of how the Intranet affects communication and shapes or modifies business activities. The results of literature review and study revealed that middle managers believe that the extent of the Intranet use is significantly related to improvements in overall organizational functions and activities. While communication, decision-making, productivity, work collaboration, and business activities are all enhanced by Intranet use, communication appears to be most dramatically improved by Intranet use.

Intranet is an enterprise network using Internet protocols as communication standard and HTML as content standard. The Internet is like a house built on information water. It has a lot of strong points as a future enterprise network. However, companies wish to have confidence in its functional and economic effectiveness and security before adopting it. The security issue especially is a problem to solve inevitably. Enterprises will hold back to adopt Intranet unless there are enough security counter plans and countermeasures against vulnerabilities of Intranet(it is the wise decision !). Nevertheless the researches related to Intranet has been concentrated on techniques for building it. In this paper, we focus the security aspect of Intranet. Intranet security must be considered on the whole from structure design to users' services. We propose a security-based Intranet structure and security management system.

본 논문에서는 클라이언트가 위치한 기관내의 intranet의 구성요소의 변경과 운영방식의 변경이 intranet 내에서의 실제 데이터 전송 속도와 intranet 밖으로의 실제 데이터 전송속도에 미치는 영향을 정량적으로 분석하였다. 본 연구에서는 서울시립대학교의 네트워크를 이용하여 다음의 세 가지 경우를 분석하여 비교하였다. 첫째, ATM과 비ATM을 상호 연동하여 운영하는 경우, 둘째, ATM과 비ATM을 분리하여 개별적으로 운영하는 경우, 셋째, 앞에 두 번째 경우에서 intranet의 기본구성요소를 Giga bps장비로 교체한 경우. 본 연구는 급속히 변화하는 네트워크 기술과 폭발적으로 증가하는 데이터 통신량에 대한 요구에 맞추어 서울시립대학교의 기반 컴퓨터 통신환경을 획기적으로 발전시키기 위한 기초연구로 수행되었다.

In this paper, we design and implement web based Intranet Management Report Publisher (IMRP) that generates automatically daily, weekly, monthly and yearly report for configuration, performance and fault management of the Intranet. Intranet managers can analyze status of the Intranet with IMRP easier The IMRP publishes the Intranet management reports based on TINA (Telecommunication Information Networking Architecture) using CORBA(Common Object Request Broker Architecture). The advantages of this architecture are to protect the Intranet management system by being connected to the User Agent program and to raise the efficiency of maintenance by modifying only the User Agent program as accessing part of the Intranet management system is needed to change.

Since the intranet is a combination of open internet technologies and private information systems, various technologies for information security are essentially needed. On recent, a lot of firewall systems are being constructed to be secure the informations from external networks such as Internet in many private companies. Even though internal attacks are more frequently happened than external ones in the intranet environments, there are quite few researches on secure intranet and the internal threats are underestimated so far. In this paper, we study the security threats for each service in the intranet and propose the security models appropriate to the intranet environments by using several cryptographic tools and protocols. Furthermore, we implement the proposed security models in Java applications through computer simulation.

Today, we live in the New Information Age based on Internet/Intranet. It is expected to bring a new revolution on the business, general enterprises are using Internet/Intranet more and more on the business field. Intranet is a new definition of network environment which conducts all the inter-business by internet technology. With the enormous growth of the Internet, an increasing number of people in corporations use the Internet for communicating with the outside world, for gathering information, and for doing business. Internet technology may have its greatest impact not on general culture, but rather on corporations. It has already begun to revolutionize the way that companies operate and do business. When Internet technology is applied and used inside a corporation, and open only to its employees, it is referred to as an Intranet. The same technologies that underlie corporate Intranets form the basis of the larger Internet. The benefit of Intranet is 1) low construction cost 2) easy system management 3) friendly user interface 4) OS and H/W independent, etc. This paper provides the concept of Internet and Intranet, compares client/server and Intranet environment, and propose case study of implementation from client/server to Intranet environment.
