The first frame is encoded in intra mode which generates a larger number of bits. In addition, the first frame is used for the inter mode encoding of the following frames. Thus the initial QP for the first frame affects the first frame as well as the following frames. Traditionally, the initial QP is determined among four constant values only depending on the bpp. In the case of low bit rate video coding, the initial QP value is fixed to 40 regardless of the output bandwidth. Although this initialization scheme is simple, yet it is not accurate enough. An accurate initial QP prediction scheme should not only depends on bpp but also on the complexity of the video sequence and the output bandwidth. In the proposed scheme, we determine the initial QP according to the ratio of the first frame to the total bits allocated to a GOP. To estimate the QP of the allocated bits, Rate-QP model is used. It is shown by experimental results that the new algorithm can predict the optimal initial QP more accurately and generate the PSNR performance better than that of the existing JVT algorithm.

This paper presents an ASIP(Application Specific Instruction Set Processor) for implementation of H.264/AVC, called VSIP(Video Specific Instruction-set Processor). The proposed VSIP has novel instructions and optimized hardware architectures for specific applications, such as intra prediction, in-loop deblocking filter, integer transform, etc. Moreover, VSIP has hardware accelerators for computation intensive parts in video signal processing, such as inter prediction and entropy coding. The VSIP has much smaller area and can dramatically reduce the number of memory access compared with commercial DSP chips, which result in low power consumption. The proposed VSIP can efficiently perform in real-time video processing and it can support various profiles and standards.

H.264 video coding standard is widely used due to the high compression rate and quality. The motion compensation is the most time-consuming and complex unit in the H.264 decoder. The performance of the motion compensation is determined by the calculation of pixel interpolation and management of the reference pixels. The reference pixels read from external memory using efficient memory management for data reuse is necessary along with the high performance interpolators. We propose the architecture of a motion compensation unit for H.264 decoders. It is composed of 2-dimensional circular register files, a motion vector predictor and high performance interpolators with low complexity. The 2-dimensional circular register files reuse reference pixel data as much as possible, and feed reference pixel data to interpolators without any latency and complex logic circuits. We design a motion compensation unit and a intra-prediction unit and integrate them into a prediction unit and verify the operation and the performance.
The object of this paper is to make temporal direct mode clear by providing a solution to the following problem : if the co-located block in the list 1 reference picture for direct mode has only the 1ist 1 motion vector or both the 1ist 0 and list 1 motion vectors, then which motion vector will be used for the direct mode motion vector calculation\ulcorner This paper also shows how to derive reference picture index and direct mode motion vector for each list in order to guarantee the high coding efficiency. when the co-located macroblock is in intra mode. Furthermore, the reasonable calculation methods for the direct mode motion vectors in the various cases are presented. Finally, experimental results show that the proposed temporal direct mode provides the comparable performance against the spatial direct mode. Therefore, the simulation proves that the proposed temporal direct mode is acceptable.

Due to the advances in hardware technologies for low-power CMOS cameras, there have been various researches on wireless video sensor network(WVSN) applications including agricultural monitoring and environmental tracking. In such a system, its core technologies include video compression and wireless transmission. Since data of video sensors are bigger than those of other sensors, it is particularly necessary to estimate precisely the traffic after video encoding. In this paper, we present an estimation method for the encoded video traffic in WVSN networks. To estimate traffic characteristics accurately, the proposed method first measures complexities of frames and then applies them to the bit rate estimation adaptively. It is shown by experimental results that the proposed method improves the estimation of bit rate characteristics by more than 12% as compared to the existing method.
The decrease of visual quality at scene change occurs when the difference between the amount of target bits and actual coding is high. Especially, scene change at the P-Picture can lead to severely degrade visual qualities at itself and the pictures referencing it. In this paper, under the occurrence of scene change, we propose a new method, based on the analysis of existing inaccurate bits allocation, to improve the visual qualities of scene-changed and following pictures. The method allocates extra bits to scene-changed Picture and changes them upto the level of the complexity of intra picture. Also, the method changes target bits of following pictures upto the complexity of picture prior to the scene change. Computer simulation shows that the proposed method has improved 0.5-1.2dB higher than TM5 method in terms of PSNR.
Field surveys for Plum pox virus (PPV) infection were conducted in stone fruit orchards all over Bulgaria. In total, 1168 out of 3020 leaf samples from cultivated Prunus spp. and wildly growing P. cerasifera trees reacted positive for PPV in DASI-ELISA with the universal monoclonal antibody (MAb) 5B. Further ELISA analyses showed that 987 and 127 isolates belonged to PPV-M and PPV-D serotypes, respectively. The plum and P. cerasifera showed 82.0% and 50.5% levels of infection, respectively followed by the peach (40.0%) and the apricot (32.0%). Five hundred fifty one PPV isolates were further typed by IC-RT-PCR with PPV-Rec, -M and -D-specific primers, targeting (Cter)NIb-(Nter) CP genome region, as 125 isolates were sequenced. The results revealed the presence of PPV-Rec, PPV-M and PPV-D and mixed infections of these strains. PPV-Rec was the most prevalent strain (49.0%), followed by PPV-M (40.1%), while PPV-D was the less spread strain (8.2%). PPV-Rec was the most common strain in plums, including the eight "old-aged" trees from the region of the first Sharka discovery. PPV-M was the most prevalent strain in peach and apricot. Phylogenetic analyses on (Cter)NIb-(Nter)CP of the isolates were performed. PPV-Rec isolates formed a homogeneous group, while PPV-M isolates split into PPV-Ma and PPV-Mb subgroups. Five separated clades were formed by the analyzed PPV-D isolates. Nucleotide sequences of the partial CP coding region of the analyzed isolates revealed a slightly higher intra-strain genetic variability in PPV-Rec and PPV-M isolates, while that of PPV-D strain isolates was higher from the reported for these strains.

In order to reduce blocking artifacts in inter-frame coded images, we propose a new image restoration algorithm, which directly processes differential images before reconstruction. We note that blocking artifact in inter-frame coded images is caused by both 8$\times$8 DCT and 16$\times$16 macroblock based motion compensation, while that of intra-coded images is caused by 8$\times$8 DCT only. According to the observation, we Propose a new degradation model for differential images and the corresponding restoration algorithm that utilizes additional constraints and convex sets for discontinuity inside blocks. The proposed restoration algorithm is a modified version of standard regularization that incorporate!; spatially adaptive lowpass filtering with consideration of edge directions by utilizing a part of DCT coefficients. Most of video coding standard adopt a hybrid structure of block-based motion compensation and block discrete cosine transform (BDCT). By this reason, blocking artifacts are occurred on both block boundary and block interior For more complete removal of both kinds of blocking artifacts, the restored differential image must satisfy two constraints, such as, directional discontinuities on block boundary and block interior Those constraints have been used for defining convex sets for restoring differential images.

This paper presents deblocking filter for low-complexity video decoder. Baseline profile of the H.264/AVC used for mobile devices such as mobile phones has two times higher compression performance than the MPEG-4 Visual but it has a problem of serious complexity as using 1/4-pel interpolation filter, adaptive entropy model and deblocking filter. This paper presents low-complexity deblocking filter for decreasing complexity of decoder with preserving the coding efficiency of the H.264/AVC. In this paper, the proposed low-complexity deblocking filter decreased 49% of branch instruction than conventional approach as calculating value of BS by using the CBP. In addition, a range of filtering of strong filter applied in intra macroblock boundaries was limited to two pixels. According to the experimental results, the proposed low-complexity deblocking filter decreased -0.02% of the BDBitrate comparison with baseline profile of the H.264/AVC, decreased 42% of the complexity of deblocking filter, and decreased 8.96% of the complexity of decoder.

Purpose: To investigate the feasibility of TI-201 SPECT with intra coronary injection (lC-I) in the detection of viable myocardium, we have performed SPECT imaging after direct intracoronary injection of TI-201 and images were compared with those of stress-reinjection (Re-I) SPECT. Methods: Fourteen coronary artery disease patients (male 11, mean age 54 years) who had myocardial infarction or demonstrated left ventricular wall motion abnormality on echocardiography were enrolled. Three mCi of TI-201 was injected into both coronary arteries during angiography and images were acquired between 6- and 24-hour after injection. Reinjection imaging with 1 mCi of TI-201 was performed at 4-hour after adenosine stress imaging with 3 mCi of TI-201. Images were interpreted according to 4-grade visual scoring system (grade 0-3). Segments with mild to moderated uptake (${\leq}$grade 1), and upgraded more than one score with reinjection, and were defined as viable myocardium. Results: Image quality was poor in two cases with IC-I. Numbers of non-viable segments were 60 (23.8%) with IC-I, and 38 (15.1%) with Re-I, respectively. Overall agreement for perfusion grade per myocardial segment in each IC-I and Re-I was 76.5%. Overall agreement for viable segment between IC-I and Re-I was 90.5%. Only one out of 38 segments interpreted as non-viable with Re-I were interpretated as viable with IC-I. And 23 out of 214 segments interpreted as viable with Re-I were interpreted as non-viable with IC-I. Conclusion: Intracoronary TI-201 SPECT seemed to be not advantageous over stress-rest reinjection imaging in the assessment of myocardial viability, mainly due to low count statistics at 6-hour or 24-hour delayed time points. The feasibility of intracoronary TI- 201 SPECT is considered to be limited.
