황기건중탕합리중탕(黃耆建中湯合理中湯)이 항궤양(抗潰瘍) 및 위장관(胃腸管) 기능(機能)에 미치는 효과(效果)에 대(對)한 실험적(實驗的) 연구(硏究) (An experimental study of Wahngkigunchungtanghapleechungtang on the effects of gastric ulcer and gastro-intestinal function in rats and mice)

  • An experimental studies were done to investigate the spontaneous movements to the isolated ileum with the liquid extracts of Wahngkigunchunghapleechungtang. Then the effects of isolated ileum, pylorus-ligated and indomethacin-induced ulcer, gastric juice secretion, and transport abilities of the small and large intestine were studied. The following results have been obtained; 1. Wahngkigunchunghapleechungtang showed to have an inhibitory effects on the smooth muscle contraction of the isolated ileum by acetylcholine chloride and barium chloride. 2. Wahngkigunchunghapleechungtang showed to have an inhibitory effect on the contraction of the gastric fundus-strip by acetylcholine chloride and barium chloride. 3. The preventive effects were not recognized on the pylorus-ligated ulcer, by administration of Wahngkigunchunghapleechungtang. 4. The preventive effects were recognized on the indomethacin-induced ulcer by administration of Wahngkigunchunghapleechungtang. 5. The Inhibitory effects on the secretion gastric juice, free & total acidity, and pepsin output were recognized by administration of Wahngkigunchunghapleechungtang. 6. The transport abilities in the small intestine were not recognized by administration of Wahngkigunchunghapleechungtang. 7. The transport abilities in the large intestine were increased by administration of Wahngkigunchunghapleechungtang. According to the above results, it is considered that the experimental effects of Wahngkigunchunghapleechungtang has correspond to the oriental medical literatures.

혹고니(Cygnus olor)의 보툴리눔독소증 (Botulism in a Mute Swan(Cygnus olor))

  • Many neurotoxigenic clostridia are found in soil. Among animals, birds are especially susceptible to botulism, perhaps because they feed on insects, invertebrate carcasses, and decayed feeds contaminated with spores of Clostridium (C.) botulinum. C. botulinum type C is mainly involved in avian botulism. In the summer of 2005, death of a mute swan (cygnus olor) living in the pond of large bird cage was found in Seoul Grand Park Zoo. The birds presented presumptive clinical signs of botulism, such as ruffled hackle feathers, abnormal posture of the head, weakness, and flaccid paralysis. At that time, pond water in the breeding facilities was drained for 7 days, but there were still remained water containing sediment of feed and feces. Therefore, botulism was suspected and an experimentation were made to detect C. botulinum in the dead mute swan. Gross post-mortem findings of a mute swan showed jelly-like hemorrhagic contents in the intestine, sands and vegetations in the stomach. C. botulinum was isolated from the liver, small intestine and large intestine samples. Botulism was also confirmed by mouse inoculation test with the organ samples. With PCR, a gene encoding C. botulinum type C toxin was detected for the several organs of the mute swan died. These results suggested that death of mute swan was caused by C. botulinum type C.

  • This study was done to investigate the clinical effects of Daegunchungtang on the peptic ulcer and the function of gastointestinal tract. The liquid extracts of Daegunchungtang was administerd orally to the rats and mice. Then the effects of isolated ileum, pylorus-ligated and indomethacine-induced ulcer, gastric juice secretion, and transport abilities of the small and large intestine, were studied. The following results have been obtained : 1. Daegunchungtang showed to have an inhibitory effects on the smooth muscle contraction of the isolated ileum by acetylcholine chloride and barium chloride. 2. Effect of Chinese Yam on Benzo[a]pyrene Hydroxylase Activities in Rats Fed Dietary Benzo[a]pyrene

  • To investigate the effect of yam on the activity of benzo[a]pyrene hydroxylase(BPH), the key enzyme associated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) metabolism, rats were fed a fiber free diet for 7 days, whereupon they were switched to experimental diets for another 7 days. Diets contained benzo[a] pyrene(BP, 400 mg/kg diet) and 25% or 50% yam powder (freezer dried and hot air dried ). Diets containing pectin and cellulose were compared with diets containing yam. BPH activities were assessed in the liver, lung, kidney, stomach, small intestine and large intestine of rats. BP induced BPH activities in various tissues ; 8 fold in liver, 28 in lung and stomach , and 32 in large intestine. The addition of yam significantly lowered BPH activity in liver, lung and stomach and hot air dried yam was nmor eeffectivie than freeze dried yams. These data suggested that yam containing diet may influence carcinogen metabolism in liver and extrahepatic target tissues by altering activities of BPH and may reduce exposure of these tissues to dietary carcinogens.

  • Carcinoid tumors can be ubiquitous, but most will originate in four sites: appendix [38%], small intestine[24%], rectum[13%] or bronchus[11.6%]. And bronchial carcinoids are rare, accounting for only 1% to 6% of all primary lung tumors. Familial adenomatous polyposis cali, the most common form of the polyposis syndromes attributable to a genetic defect, is defined by demonstration of at least 100 adenomatous polyps in the large intestine. We experienced a case of typical bronchial carcinoid with familial adenomatous polyposis cali in 23 year old female patient, which was surgically treated by left lower lobectomy.

방사선에 의한 미토콘드리아 손상의 형태학적 고찰 (Morphological Review on Mitochondria Damage by Irradiation)

  • Mitochondria was observed much around the nuclear membrane of liver tissue where the energy metabolism process is active. Testis tissue had a large number of undifferentiated cells, and cristae in Inner membrane of Mitochondria was not observed clearly. Morphological damage occurred first in Inner membrane rather than the outer membrane. The kidney tissue was clearly observed in the form of cristae. Radiation-induced damage occurred at the edges of both ends, and the membrane was observed bursting with the thickness of the outer membrane. Small intestine cells were observed in many mitochondria in the tissues around the villus, where bowel movements were active. Morphological damage occurred with the outer and inner membranes getting tangled. Mitochondria sensitivity to radiation was sensitized in testis and small intestine tissues, and kidney, ovary and liver tissues were found to be resistant.

흰쥐의 장조직에 X-선 조사와 마이크로파 온열요법의 효과에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Effectiveness of Microwave Hyperthermia Combined with Radiation on the Small and Large Intestine in rats)

  • 온열요법은 조직에 $40^{\circ}C-44^{\circ}C$의 열을 가함으로서 방사선에 저항성이 큰 DNA합성기의 세포 및 pH가 낮은 세포에 민감하게 작용하는 생물학적 효과를 암 치료에 이용하는 것이다. 그러나 온열요법은 방사선과의 병행요법에 의하여 발생되는 열증강율 및 치료 이득이 방사선량, 열량, 온도, 가열시간, 온도분포, 조사시간 등에 민감하고 변화가 많으므로 객관적인 치료효과와 통일된 치료방법을 결정하기가 어렵다. 저자는 2450MHz, 100watt의 마이크로파 온열기구와 조직등가인 팬톱을 직접제작하여 예비측정을 통해 방열 조사조건과 방법을 결정한 후 생물학적 반응을 관찰하기 위하여 102마리 흰쥐 소장 및 대장의 조직학적 면화를 관찰하고 열증강율에 따른 효과를 비교 평가하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1 온열요법 단독으로는 소장과 대장의 조직학적 면화는 볼 수 없었다. 2. 방사선 조사 단독군과 병행군에서 소장 및 대장의 점막상피 괴사는 방사선 조사 6Gy에서 관찰되었으며 방사선량의 증가와 관찰시간 경과에 따라 그 정도가 심하여졌다. 3. 방사선 조사 단독군과 병행군에서 소장 및 대장의 근육층의 괴사는 방사선 조사 10Gy에서 관찰되기 시작하였으며 관찰시간의 경과에 따라 그 정도가 심하여졌다. 4. 방사선 조사와 온열요법 병행군에서 소장과 대장의 조직학적 변화(점막상피와 근육층의 괴사)를 관찰하여 열증강율은 증가되지 않았다.

공기호흡과 관련된 왕종개(미꾸리과어류)의 호흡기관에 관한 연구 (Study on the Respiratory Organ of Spined Loach, Iksookimia longicorpa (Pisces, Cobitidae), in Relation to the Air-breathing System)

  • 왕종개 Iksookimia longicorpa의 공기호흡에 관한 호흡체계를 조사하기 위해 표피 (epidermis)와 소화관 (intestinal tract)를 관찰하였다. 표피는 작은 점액세포 (mucous cell)와 곤봉세포 (club cell)로 이루어진 두 종류의 선세포 (gland cell)을 가진다. 점액세포는 대부분 acid sulfomucin으로 구성되었으나 곤봉상세포는 점액물질에 대한 어떠한 반응도 보이지 않았다. 기저층에는 작은 림파구를 포함하는 lymphocytes가 존재하며, 다량의 모세혈관이 기저층 바로 아래부분에 존해하고 있다. 장( intestinal tract)은 거의 일직선형태이며, 크게 장(intestine)과 직장(rectum)으로 구성된다. 이러한 장은 점액층 (mucosa), 점막하층 (laminal propria-submucosa), 근육층 (musculary), 장막 (serosa) 층으로 구성되었다. 이러한 장은 짧은 fold와 얇은 벽으로 구성되었으며, 점막층은 acid sulfomucin의 점액을 가지고 있다. 공기호흡하는 어류들의 변형된 공기호흡 기관의 특징들과 비교해 볼 때 왕종개는 하천의 가뭄으로 인해 용존산소가 부족할 경우 장에서는 이루어지지않고 표피에서만 공기를 흡입하는 것으로 생각된다.

슬안풍 환자의 십이경맥 전위측정 연구 (Differences in Electric Potential of Meridian System - Comparing Electric Potentials of Patients with Arthroncus of Knee -)

  • Objectives : Assuming that the characteristic of meridian system has been similar to this of electric potentials in human body and that measurements of electric potential at well(井穴) and sea(合穴) points in branches of the twelve meridians(WSBTM) will be representative of measurements of the twelve meridians, to measure the electric potentials of 13 patients with Arthroncus of Knee(슬안풍<膝眼風>, AK), to find out the characteristic of meridian system in patients with AK. Methods : Electric potentials of well and sea points in the meridians in twenty one patients with the pain in the lion diagnosed as AK were repeatedly measured by physiograph(PowerLab). Measurements of those electric potentials were analyzed by factor analysis. Results : Their electric potentials at the left and right side were factors which are different from each side. In the left side, Factor 1 included Small Intestine, Pericardium, Spleen, Kidney meridian, and Factor 2 included Heart, Tripple Energizer, Bladder, Liver meridian. Factor 3 included Large Intestine, Stomach, Gall bladder meridian, and Factor 4 included Lung meridian. In the right side, Factor 1 included Heart, Pericardium, Tripple Energizer, Spleen, Bladder meridian and Factor 2 included Lung, Liver, Gall bladder meridian. Factor 3 included Small Intestine, Stomach, Kidney meridian and Factor 4 included Large Intestine Meridian. Conclusions : The electric potentials of AK differ from those of normal bodies as well as of bodies with other diseases-shoulder lesions, waist lesions, Lumbago due to Strain and Contusion-. Thus electric potentials of well and sea points might be the representative meridian to show their characteristics.
