This paper considers internal pressure fluctuations for a range of building volumes and dominant wall opening areas. The study recognizes that the air flow in and out of the dominant opening in the envelope generates Helmholtz resonance, which can amplify the internal pressure fluctuations compared to the external pressure, at the opening. Numerical methods were used to estimate fluctuating standard deviation and peak (i.e. design) internal pressures from full-scale measured external pressures. The ratios of standard deviation and peak internal pressures to the external pressures at a dominant windward wall opening of area, AW are presented in terms of the non-dimensional opening size to volume parameter, $S^*=(a_s/\bar{U}_h)^2(A_W^{3/2}/V_{Ie})$ where $a_s$ is the speed of sound, $\bar{U}_h$ is the mean wind speed at the top of the building and $V_{Ie}$ is the effective internal volume. The standard deviation of internal pressure exceeds the external pressures at the opening, for $S^*$ greater than about 0.75, showing increasing amplification with increasing $S^*$. The peak internal pressure can be expected to exceed the peak external pressure at the opening by 10% to 50%, for $S^*$ greater than about 5. A dominant leeward wall opening also produces similar fluctuating internal pressure characteristics.
This paper deals with wear characteristics of ion-nitrided metal theoretically and experimentally in order to analysis of wear phenomena. Wear tests show that compound layer of ion-nitrided metal reduces wear rate when the applied wear load is mall. However, as th load becomes large, the existence of compound layer tends to increase wear rate. The residual stress at the surface of ion-nitrided metal is measured, and the internal stress distribution is calculated when the normal and tangential forces are applied to the surface of metal. Compressive residual stress is largeest at the compound layer, and decreases as the depth from the surface increases. Calculation shows that the maximum stress exists at a certain depth from the surface when normal and tangential force are applied, and that the larger the wear load is the deeper the location of maximum stress becomes. In the analysis, it is found that under small applied wear load the critical depth, where voids and cracks may be created and propagated, is located at the compound layer, as the adhesive wear, where hardness is an important factor, is created the existence of compound layer reduces the amount of wear. When the load becomes large the critical depth is located below the compound layer, and delamination, which may be explained by surface deformation, crack nucleation and propagation, is created, and the existence of compound layer increases wear rate.
The study was carried to investigate the change of internal stress and physical properties of paper by the mutiplying of paper structuring that is an useful means to maximize the performance and use of the fiber raw material. The effects of recycled fiber on the physical properties of multiplied paper also were studied. The beating increased the internal stress of single layered paper, while filler loading decreased the internal stress. Multiplying the structure of paper decreased the internal stress and the most of physical properties except for tear index. It was found that the properties of paper could be changed by the pulp type, beating and the combination of raw materials. The introduction of filler in the middle and/or outer layer could improved the internal stress, tensile index, tear index and burst index. The addition of recycled fiber increased the opacity and stiffness of paper in both single layered and multiplied paper. Multiplying the structure of paper improved the air permeability and stiffness, while decreased burst index.
The high temperature properties of vanadium and molybdenum added high silicon ductile iron, so called V-Mo-Si ductile iron, were investigated. The (V,Mo) complex carbides and Mo carbides precipitated at the cellular boundaries of the as-cast specimens. The microhardness of the (V,Mo) carbides were in the range of 553-619, while that of the Mo carbides in the range of 341-390. The thermo-mechanical tests were carried out with a Gleeble system at 700 and $800^{\circ}C$ under vacuum condition. The tensile strengths of the specimen tested at $700^{\circ}C$ with the dynamic deformation rate of 50 mm/sec and those with the static deformation rate of 0.15 mm/sec were 235.7 and 115.3 MPa, while the reduction in area were 23.7 and 22.4%, respectively. At the high dynamic deformation rates, the tensile strength was steeply increased due to promoting the brittle fracture of pearlite in the matrix of the specimens. But the changes of the reduction in area with the deformation rates on the same specimens were negligible. The weight gain of the V-Mo-Si specimens oxidized in the air atmosphere for 6 hours at 800 and $900^{\circ}C$ were 1.1 and 4.1.%, respectively. The cross-sectional microstructure of oxidized specimens consisted of the porous external scale layer grown outside from the original surface, the dense internal scale layer grown into the original surface, the decarburized ferrite layer between the internal scale and the matrix of base metal. The (V,Mo) carbides and Mo carbides formed in the matrix of as-cast specimen did not decompose during oxidation at 900 for 24 hours in air atmosphere.

The NAUT (Non-contact Air coupled Ultrasonic Testing) technique is one of the ultrasonic testing methods that enables non-contact ultrasonic testing by compensating for the energy loss caused by the difference in acoustic impedance of air with an ultrasonic pulser receiver, PRE-AMP and high-sensitivity transducer. As the NAUT is performed in a state of steady ultrasonic transmission and reception, testing can be performed on materials of high or low temperatures or specimens with a rough surface or narrow part, which could not have been tested using the conventional contact-type testing technique. For this study, the internal defects of spot weld, which are often applied to auto parts, and CFRP parts, were tested to determine if it is practical to make the NAUT technique commercial. As the spot welded part had a high ultrasonic transmissivity, the result was shown as red. On the other hand, the part with an internal defect had a layer of air and low transmissivity, which was shown as blue. In addition, depending on the PRF (Pulse Repetition Frequency), an important factor that determines the measurement speed, the color sharpness showed differences. With the images obtained from CFRP specimens or an imaging device, it was possible to identify the shape, size and position of the internal defect within a short period of time. In this paper, it was confirmed in the above-described experiment that both internal defect detection and image processing of the defect could be possible using the NAUT technique. Moreover, it was possible to apply NAUT to the detection of internal defects in the spot welded parts or in CFRP parts, and commercialize its practical application to various fields.

Double skin facade(DSF) ventilated by fans consists of a normal external and an internal envelope. In this glass layer, the installed fan replaces an air inlet for the control of air flow through the cavity. The purpose of this paper is to investigate physical theory and to analyze the applicability of fans installed in a DSF. The experiment was conducted in 2 rooms. One room has a DSF with installed fans and the other one has a typical window. The room ventilated through a DSF which fans are installed was always kept warmer than the other room, ventilated directly from the outdoors. The average increase of the supplied air temperature through the DSF ventilated by fans was $6.54^{\circ}C$ at 78CMH, $6.2^{\circ}C$ at 95CMH, and $3.7^{\circ}C$ at 120CMH. As a result, the DSF with installed fans was appropriate for installation in rooms. It supplies outdoor fresh air heated through a cavity and ventilates a constant air volume.
The investigation of driving mechanism for the formation of tropical night in the coastal region, defined as persistent high air temperature over than 25$^{\circ}C$ at night was carried out from August 14 through 15, 1995. Convective boundary layer (CBL) of a 1 km depth with big turbulent vertical diffusion coefficients is developed over the ground surface of the inland basin in the west of the mountain and near the top of the mountain, while a depth of thermal internal boundary layer (TIBL) like CBL shrunken by relatively cool sea breeze starting at 100 km off the eastern sea is less than 150 m from the coast along the eastern slope of the mountain. The TIBL extends up to the height of 1500 m parallel to upslope wind combined with valley wind and easterly sea breeze from the sea. As sensible heat flux convergences between the surface and lower atmosphere both at the top of mountain and the inland coast are much greater than on the coastal sea, sensible heat flux should be accumulated inside both the TIBL and the CBL near the mountain top and then, accumulated sensible heat flux under the influence of sea breeze circulation combined with easterly sea breeze from sea to inland and uplifted valley wind from inland to the mountain top returning down toward the eastern coastal sea surface should be transported into the coast, resulting in high air temperatures near the coastal inland. Under nighttime cooling of ground surface after sunset, mountain wind causes the daytime existed westerly wind to be an intensified westerly downslope wind and land breeze further induces it to be strong offshore wind. No sensible heat flux divergence or very small flux divergence occurs in the coast, but the flux divergences are much greater on the top of the mountain and along its eastern slope than on the coastal inland and sea surfaces. Thus, less cooling down of the coastal surface than the mountain surface and sensible heat transfer from warm pool over the coast into the coastal surface produce nocturnal high air temperature on the coastal inland surfaces, which is not much changed from daytime ones, resulting in the persistence of tropical night (nocturnal thermal high) until the early in the morning.

Background: Indoor air pollutants are caused by a number of factors, such as coming in from the outside or being generated by internal activities. Typical indoor air pollutants include nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide from household items such as heating appliances and volatile organic compounds from building materials. In addition there is carbon dioxide from human breathing and bacteria from speaking, coughing, and sneezing. Objectives: According to recent research results, most indoor air pollution is known to be greatly affected by internal factors such as burning (biomass for cooking) and various pollutants. These pollutants can have a fatal effect on the human body due to a lack of ventilation facilities. Methods: We fabricated a polydopamine (PDA) layer with Ti substrates as a coating on supported glass fiber fabric to enhance its photo-activity. The PDA layer with TiO2 was covalently attached to glass fiber fabric using the drop-casting method. The roughness and functional groups of the surface of the Ti substrate/PDA coated glass fiber fabric were verified through infrared imaging microscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). The obtained hybrid Ti substrate/PDA coated glass fiber fabric was investigated for photocatalytic activity by the removal of ammonia and an epidermal Staphylococcus aureus reduction test with lamp (250 nm, 405 nm wavelength) at 24℃. Results: Antibacterial properties were found to reduce epidermal staphylococcus aureus in the Ti substrate/PDA coated glass fiber fabric under 405 nm after three hours. In addition, the Ti substrate/PDA coated glass fiber fabric of VOC reduction rate for ammonia was 50% under 405 nm after 30 min. Conclusions: An electron-hole pair due to photoexcitation is generated in the PDA layer and transferred to the conduction band of TiO2. This generates a superoxide radical that degrades ammonia and removes epidermal Staphylococcus aureus.

In this research, low fidelity air/heat load analysis was conducted for the intake of high speed vehicle. For air/heat load calculations, aerodynamic properties at the surface and the boundary layer edge were estimated using Taylor-Maccoll equation for conical flow, shockwave relation and Prandtl-Meyer expansion equation for internal and external flow. Couette flow assumption and Reynolds analogy were used in order to calculate convective heat transfer coefficient. In order to calculate skin friction coefficient for heat transfer coefficient analysis, Van Driest method II and Reference Enthalpy method were considered. An axis symmetric SCRAMJET model was selected as a reference configuration for verifying the proper implementation of the present method. Comparison of the results using the present method and Computational Fluid Dynamic analysis showed that the present method is valuable for efficiently providing pressure and heat loads for air-intake structure design of the high speed air vehicle.
Recent researches on plant factory system deal with the convergence of lighting technology, agricultural technology inclusive to the high-tech industries worldwide in order to respond to the decreasing crop harvest due to global warming and abnormal weather phenomena. However, the fundamental performance standard is not currently being introduced in the case of plants factory and its commercialization is not activated because of high initial investment and operating cost. Large portion of the initial investment and operating cost of a plant factory is ascribed to artificial light sources and thermal control facilities, therefore, innovation should be provided in order to improve the economics of the plant factory. As an alternative, new plant factory could harness solar thermal and geothermal systems for heating, cooling and ventilation. In this study, a natural light dependent multi-layer plant factory's thermal environment was analyzed with two-dimensional numerical methods to elicit efficient operation conditions for optimized internal physical environment. Depending on the supply air temperature and airflow rate introduced in the facility, the temperature changes around the crops was interpreted. Since the air supplied into the plant factory does not stay long enough, the ambient temperature predicted around the plating trays was not significantly different from that of the supplied air. However, the changes of airflow rate and air flow pattern could cause difference to the temperature around the planting trays. Increasing the amount of time of air staying around the planting trays could improve energy performance in case the thermal environment of a natural light based multi-layer plant factory is considered.
