  • This study examines the interaction between internal auditors' personality traits and the internal audit function effectiveness. It also investigates the effect of such interacted variables on financial reporting quality. This study employed a questionnaire survey to collect data from 193 internal auditors of Jordanian companies listed on the Amman Stock Exchange. The study model is validated and tested using the partial least squares structural equation modelling. The results reveal that all the examined personality traits of internal auditors significantly impact internal audit function effectiveness except for the extraversion trait. The results also show that personality traits have indirect effects on financial reporting quality via internal audit function effectiveness. These results suggest that internal auditors with high scores on openness to experience, emotional stability, and conscientiousness traits can be among the most significant contributors to the internal audit function effectiveness. The results also suggest that internal auditors' personality traits can be regarded as an internal audit function intangible resource that enhances effectiveness. The study's findings might be of interest to many different parties interested in enhancing internal audit function effectiveness and boosting the financial reporting quality, such as external and internal auditors, auditees, human resource departments, and Chief Internal Audit Executives.

  • Good Corporate Governance (GCG) has been implemented by companies, especially companies that have gone public. However, many local companies still have not applied the principles of GCG. This study examines the implementation of the CG concept which is not fully implemented in family businesses in Indonesia. Besides, this research also aims to find out the role of the Internal Audit function in enhancing GCG practices. This research is a qualitative study that uses in-depth interviews, observation, and data triangulation, to gather evidence from exploratory case studies conducted in three family business firms. The results of this study found that CG is essential for the successful run of family businesses. After analyzing the data, we developed a new theory called Islamic Integrity Governance. The Internal Auditor plays a key role in improving GCG and a vibrant and agile internal audit function can be an indispensable resource supporting sound corporate governance. The internal auditor provides objective assurance and insight on the effectiveness and efficiency of risk management, internal control, and governance processes. Therefore, the Internal Auditor is an important pillar for effective and efficient GCG implementation. This theory concludes several concepts such as THTCL (Trustworthy, Honest, Transparent, Creative, Loyal). Internal auditors are needed because the concept of control is useful for improving GCG in business.

  • This study examines the effect of independent commissioners and the Audit Committee on internal control disclosure and its implications for earnings management in the banking industry listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the period 2016-2018. In this study, a purposive sampling technique was used, combined with two multiple regression analysis models. The final sample for this study comprised 30 companies over the three years of observation, such that there were 90 observations in total. This study indicates that independent commissioners, as measured by their composition, do not affect the disclosure of internal control. However, as measured by the number of members, the Audit Committee had a positive effect on internal control disclosures. This study also indicates that the disclosure of internal control as measured by the Internal Control Disclosure index affects reducing the negative practice of earnings management. This study proves that the Audit Committee's role is very dominant in assisting the Board of Commissioners in supervising internal control. This has implications for reducing earnings management practices. However, the Independent Commissioner's role in the Indonesian banking industry has not been optimal in carrying out the supervisory function in this study.

The study sample includes 65 Iraqi firms listed on the Iraqi stock exchange for six years from 2012 to 2018, with 390 firm-year observations. The hypotheses were tested using panel data regression. According to the findings, Iraqi companies prefer to use real EM rather than accruals EM to avoid reporting losses. Discretionary cash flow, production costs, and cash flow from operation are examples of actual operations employed to undertake EM. Furthermore, according to the findings of this study, board meeting frequency and female onboard have a significant and negative influence on EM. Besides, the internal audit function was found not to affect EM. On the other hand, results revealed a significant and negative relationship between EM and FP. According to the study, management prefers to minimize cash and accrual expenditure during the economic downturn.

This study employs a quantitative approach with a population of 1968 firms with stock returns (return) and a sample of 225 companies with corporate governance practices in the manufacturing industry in Indonesia from 2013 to 2018. The findings of this study show that strategic management has a significant impact on stock return, financial condition, and corporate governance strategy.
