A New Sustain Driving Method for AC PDP : Charge-Controlled Driving Method

  • A new sustain driving method for the AC PDP is presented. In this driving method, the voltage source is connected to a storage capacitor, this storage capacitor charges an intermediate capacitor through LC resonance, and the panel is charged from the intermediate capacitor indirectly. In this way, the current flowing into the AC PDP when the sustain discharge occurs is reduced because the current is indirectly supplied from a capacitor, a limited source of charge. Thus, the input power to the output luminance efficiency is improved. Since the voltage supplied to the storage capacitor is doubled through LC resonance, this method call drive an AC PDP with a voltage source of about half of the voltage necessary in the conventional driving methods. The experiments showed that this charge-controlled driving method could drive ail AC PDP with a voltage source of as low as 107V. Using a panel of the conventional structure, luminous efficiency of 1.28 lm/W was achieved.

오렌지 과립 1차가공품의 저장성 (Storage Trial of Tentatively Thermal-processed Orange Sac)

  • 과립혼입 오렌지 쥬우스용 오렌지 과립을 대량 으로 1차 가공하여 중간제품으로 저장하면서 필요시에 완제품으로 제조할 수 있는 방안을 모색하기 위하여 오렌지 과립의 열처리 조건 및 포장방법별 저장중 품질변화와 완제품 제조에 따른 저장제품의 가공적성을 확인한 결과 5개월 이상 안전저장이 가능하였으며 포장후 살균공정과 고온충진공정에서의 가공방법별 차이는 없었고 포장방법에 따른 차이는 있어 관포장이 가장 좋았고 3겹파우치포장, 2 겹파우치포장 순이었다. 또한 쎄그먼트로 가공 저장하는 것이 과립으로 저장하는 것보다 우수하었으며 2겹파우치 포장을 제외한 모든 처리구에서 대조구(과립 저장초기에 가공한 과립혼입 쥬우스 완제품)보다 관능검사 결과가 좋게 나타나서 중간제품으로 저장하였다가 제조한 완제품이 품질면에서 더 좋다는 것을 확인하였다.

  • As temporary storage facilities for spent nuclear fuels in domestic nuclear power plants are expected to be saturated, external intermediate storage facilities would be required in the future. Spent nuclear fuels are stored in metal canisters and then placed in a dry environment within concrete or metal casing for operation. In the United States, the dry storage method for spent nuclear fuels has been operated for an extended period. Based on the corrosion experiences of dry storage canisters in chloride environments, numerous studies have been conducted to reduce corrosion in welds. With the construction of intermediate storage facilities in Korea for spent nuclear fuels expected near coastal areas adjacent to nuclear power plants, there is a need for research on the corrosion occurrence of welds and mitigation methods for canisters in chloride environments. In this paper, we measured and compared the residual stresses in the Heat-Affected Zones (HAZ) after electron beam welding (EBW) and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) processes for candidate materials such as 304L, 316L, and duplex stainless steel(DSS). We investigated the possibility of microstructure control through the application of surface modification processes using friction stir processing (FSP). Corrosion tests on each welded specimen revealed a higher corrosion rate in EBW welds compared to GTAW. Furthermore, it was confirmed that corrosion resistance improved due to phase refinement and redistribution of precipitates when FSP was applied.

  • In an electron storage ring of Pohang Light Source (PLS), electrons lose their energy in every turn by the synchronous radiation. A high power RF amplifier is employed to compensate the electron energy that is lost by the synchronous radiation. The specification of RF amplifier is an continuous output power of 60 kW at 500.082 MHz operating frequency. The power is supplied to RF cavities in the storage ring tunnel. Total number of amplifier system currently required is three. Tile total number will be increased upto five as the operating condition of storage ring is upgraded. The RF amplifier is mainly consisted of a high voltage DC power supply, an intermediate RF power amplifier (IPA), and a klystron tube. In this article, the design of RF amplifier system and characteristics of the klystron tube will be discussed.

  • The increasing saturation challenges in storage facilities for Low- and Intermediate-Level Radioactive Waste call for a more efficient storage approach. Consequently, we have developed a square-structured container that features a storage capacity approximately 20% greater than that of conventional drum-type containers. Considering the need to contain various radioactive wastes from nuclear power usage securely until they no longer pose a threat to human health or the environment, this study focuses on evaluating the sealing efficacy of the newly designed rectangular container using finite element analysis. Since radioactive waste containers typically do not experience external forces except under special circumstances, our analysis simulated the impact of an external force, assuming a fall scenario. After fastening the bolts, we examined the vertical stress distribution on the container by applying the calculated external force. The analysis confirms the container's stable seal.

모바일 디바이스를 위한 iSCSI 기반의 원격 스토리지 서비스에서 중간 서버를 이용한 성능 개선 방안 (An Improved Way of Remote Storage Service based on iSCSI for Mobile Device using Intermediate Server)

  • 모바일 기기가 널리 보급되면서 모바일 기기를 이용한 다양한 서비스에 대한 요구가 증가되었다. 특히, 멀티미디어, 게임, 데이터베이스[1]와 같은 데이터 용량이 큰 응용 서비스에 대한 요구가 크게 증가하고 있다. 하지만, 모바일 기기는 그 특성상 저장 공간이 충분하지 못하기 때문에 유선 환경에서와 같은 다양한 서비스를 적용하는데 어려움이 있었다. 따라서 모바일 기기의 저장 공간의 한계를 극복하기 위한 노력의 하나로 iSCSI를 이용해 모바일 기기에 원격 스토리지 서비스를 제공하는 연구[5]가 진행되었다. 그러나 모바일 기기에 iSCSI를 적용했을 때, 지연 시간에 민감한 iSCSI의 구조적인 특성 때문에 iSCSI 클라이언트가 서버에서 멀리 떨어진 위치로 이동하게 되면 iSCSI I/O 성능이 급격히 떨어지는 문제가 발생한다. 쓰기 작업의 경우 네트워크 지연이 64ms가 되는 경우 $28\%$의 성능 저하가 발생했다. iSCSI 프로토콜은 동작 방식의 특성상 Initiator와 Target간의 데이터 이동 지연 시간이 커지게 되면 성능이 급격하게 떨어지는 단점을 가지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 모바일 기기가 스토리지 서버로부터 거리가 멀어졌을 때, 전송 지연시간이 증가함에 따라 iSCSI 성능이 급격하게 떨어지는 단점을 개선하기 위해 중간서버(Intermediate Target)를 이용해 iSCSI Target을 지역화하여 성능을 높이는 방안을 제안한다.

Repurposing a Spent Nuclear Fuel Cask for Disposal of Solid Intermediate Level Radioactive Waste From Decommissioning of a Nuclear Power Plant in Korea

  • Operating and decommissioning nuclear power plants generates radioactive waste. This radioactive waste can be categorized into several different levels, for example, low, intermediate, and high, according to the regulations. Currently, low and intermediate-level waste are stored in conventional 200-liter drums to be disposed. However, in Korea, the disposal of intermediate-level radioactive waste is virtually impossible as there are no available facilities. Furthermore, large-sized intermediate-level radioactive waste, such as reactor internals from decommissioning, need to be segmented into smaller sizes so they can be adequately stored in the conventional drums. This segmentation process requires additional costs and also produces secondary waste. Therefore, this paper suggests repurposing the no-longer-used spent nuclear fuel casks. The casks are larger in size than the conventional drums, thus requiring less segmentation of waste. Furthermore, the safety requirements of the spent nuclear fuel casks are severer than those of the drums. Hence, repurposed spent nuclear fuel casks could better address potential risks such as dropping, submerging, or a fire. In addition, the spent nuclear fuel casks need to be disposed in compliance with the regulations for low level radioactive waste. This cost may be avoided by repurposing the casks.

Effects of Addition of Herbs on Pork Patties during Storage

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of herbs (dill weed, fennel seed and rosemary) on color stability and lipid oxidation of ground pork patties during storage at $2^{\circ}C$ and $-20^{\circ}C$. Lipid oxidation was determined by the thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) method. Fennel seed was identified as being the most effective ingredient in terms of meat redness (Hunter a-values) during storage at $2^{\circ}C$ (p<0.05). Patties treated with rosemary had lower Hunter a-values than control, and dill weed was the least beneficial in influencing meat redness, having significantly lower a-values than control patties. During frozen storage at $-20^{\circ}C$, no significant differences in a-values were observed between the control patties and those treated with fennel seed. Patties treated with rosemary had lower a-values than control and patties with dill weed had negative a-values throughout storage. The cooking process increased Hunter L-values and decreased a-values in all patty samples. TBARS values increased during storage. Rosemary displayed excellent antioxidative activity as evidenced by the completely inhibition of TBARS formation of cooked pork patties. Dill weed and fennel seed also exerted an intermediate but significant antioxidant effect during storage (p<0.05).

기계화학적 볼밀링을 이용한 Mg 합금의 수소저장능 향상 연구 (Improvement of Mg-based Hydrogen Storage Alloys by Mechanochemical Ball Milling)

  • The mechanochemical milling of Mg and $Mg_2Ni$ alloys were carried out to examine the enhancement of hydrogen storage properties of Mg alloys. The hydroge characteristics of the ball-milled products were evaluated with a Sievert-type apparatus and electrochemical test. Various intermediate compounds were obtained by chemical reactions induced during the ball milling of Mg of $Mg_2Ni$ alloys with C, Ni, $Ni_2Cl$ and $Ca_2Cl$. The system of $Mg_2Ni$ with 10 wt% C improved markedly the kinetics of hydrogen absorption, while the hydrogen capacities were practically unchanged. The hydrogen storage alloys such as Mg-Ca can be successfully.
