In modern times, pluralistic social phenomena in which various values are pursed and recognized appear. The modern society called hyper-connected, intelligence information and zero marginal cost society in which shared value is commonly emphasized faces a paradigm shift to shared society system. In particular, sharing-based activities related with intelligence information sectors more prominently emerge in the high-tech informatization which has been accelerated. The purpose of this study is to understand design factors related with how attribution of the sharing culture is expressed in library spaces and examine how sharing infrastructure is established in users' spaces. As a research method, it initially conducted theoretical consideration of the sharing culture and information spaces, which can be regarded as sociocultural phenomena in modern times. Then, it drew sharing culture-based spatial design factors-access, openness and plurality. It analyzed configuration of spaces for sharing information-Cultural Commons (CC), Information Commons(IC) and Learning Commons (LC) - and infrastructure of information spaces, for library cases-five domestic and foreign public libraries-. The findings show that modern library spaces reflect historical needs for the sharing culture and actively serve their roles through spatial infrastructure including contents (programs) and services for sharing knowledge. The study is determined to be valuable as basic data in establishing the infrastructure of information spaces reflecting modern social trends and cultural phenomena, in expecting spatial structures in which knowledge is reproduced and planning spaces of libraries in the future.
Today, a definition of tourism is shifting from simple sightseeing to experiencing various cultures directly and/or indirectly. Along with the shift, all countries of the world dedicate their full attention on globalization project. In order to do so, they try to promote their images and cultures through eating and drinking spaces for food where the rest of the world can approach with ease. China is a country of diverse culinary culture. By analyzing eating and drinking spaces operated in four Chinese cities, this research studies how the traditional Chinese elements are expressed in modernization. With the research, it will navigate a direction as a new design way to establish modernized traditionality in the future. The research conducted an advanced research that set up and analyzed a standard frame of realizing practice for traditionality. By doing so, it sorted out and reviewed the characteristics of interior space into four styles; an indicative imitation method, a partial invoked method, a partial transformation method and a conceptual reception method. According to the outcome of an analysis, (a) the indicative imitation method that directly employed Chinese tradition was most used one, followed by (b) the partial invoked method that carried a part of traditional space, (c) the partial transformation method that simplified or transformed the tradition, and (d) the conceptual reception method that interpreted hidden minds and concepts by illustrating modern spirit over an inherent order in traditional Chinese space, in respective order.
Most of these cultural spaces are Western architecture which is completely unrelated to our traditional style. In Japan's colonial rule of Korea these Western formation flowed in and passed on by them. Therefore before the understanding of modem cultural space built in Japan's colonial rule of Korea, it's essential to study about the background of the western period in that time, architecture and trend of interior. Due to Great Depression and other reasons the economical modernism of architecture raised in this period. In this thesis, based on such background of period, cultural space has been divided into assembly, theatre and exhibition spaces. Those spaces were studied according to its expressional characteristics and brought to following conclusion from the analysis. The cultural spaces were created around 1930 due to an increase of demand when the modernism started to establish. Like other buildings cultural space expressed modernized elevation and space formation with ferroconcrete building. However until Japan's colonial period the cultural areas were not used for public but for Japanese authority class's social gatherings only. Consequently, unlike other buildings the classical elements that could express these characters were more used in cultural spaces especially in theater and exhibition areas. This distinctiveness didn't appear separately but according to type of rooms in one space. Once more, place like assembly space was expressed with modernism, special or recreation rooms where people pursue a comfort were expressed with decorative style. Also a special theater which was used for only one person was generally expressed with western style to represent the stem character such as power.
Being able to enjoy leisure time for adolescents is a necessary activity, for it helps them relieve their anxiety and stress and develop their potential. It is necessary to incorporate such spaces in the housing plans in advance and support diverse community activities. The current living spaces do not hold proper spaces and facilities for community activities appropriate for adolescents. Community facilities should be planned so as to reflect the needs of these adolescents, based on a clear survey in advance. The current study has conducted a survey to find out about the level of satisfaction and requests from adolescents on the leisure facilities their current living spaces hold. Based on this prior research, this study looks for solutions that could solve the issue at hand. The current community facilities are not convenient to support a diversity of leisure activities to the adolescents. The community facilities should be able to supplement information on the various activities put in place for the youth and widely supply the programs in demand. Furthermore, the adolescents wanted to form their own community within the facilities to practice their leisurely activities. We can safely assume that the youth's desire for more community amenities will increase for their own development.
In order to make an effective use of spatial resources in the city, detailed environmental plan strategies based on 'culture' are needed. An integral part of city spaces-'underground space' serves as one of the spatial resources with much effective usage potentials. Hence, 'underground space' needs cultural vitality. The purpose of this study is to propose an thorough indoor environmental plan guideline for the cultural vitality of 'underground space'. The methods used to conduct research include precedent study reviews and survey. Through this research, following conclusions are drawn. First, to promote cultural vitality at the 'underground space', it must be transformed into the cultural public place to be utilized for cultural activities by residents. Second, the 'underground space' requires 'concept of eco-friendly space for clean environment'. Third, 'safe environment' concept must be installed in the 'underground space' to promote the cultural vitality. Fourth, the 'underground space' requires 'complex/block level network plans between cultural spaces in addition to horizontal/vertical walking network between cultural environments in ground level and underground spaces. Fifth, the 'underground space' requires underground public cultural space plan through 'reasonable underground development with considerations of the facilities related to education, culture and history'. Sixth, 'public cultural space plan for various cultural spaces' and 'supply of space for cultural activities for residents and design plan for mutual culture exchange' are necessary.
Energy consumption has been increased world widely, and the energy retain is one of the most important economic alternatives. These tendencies expand the nuclear power plants not only quantitatively but also qualitatively. Despite of the increasing construction of nuclear power plants and related facilities, every system in main control room(MCR) has been designed and administered solely based on the safety-first principles because of the specificity of nuclear industry. However, recent main control rooms started with the concept that the operators' performance could be optimized though the organic interrelation between human, machine, and environments. Now, it has been recognised in the scope of Ergonomics and Space Design which acknowledge our living spaces as Man-Environment Interface and this change connotes the MCR spaces should be special spaces rather than ordinary spaces. This research investigated domestic and foreign nuclear power plants' MCRs to suggest basic alternatives which can be applied to future MCR. With the review of characteristics of MCR, an integration of interior design, lighting and Ergonomics was explored and classified as types. Futhermore, the classification of environmental characteristics within the relationships between human, machine, and environments was developed through the case analysis of nuclear power plants. The results of this study will provide a basis of space design for system environments that the high level of safety and function are extremely important.
Due to characteristics of modern society including technological development, various methods engaging interaction between people and manmade environment have become one of the major issues raised in various fields of deign so called interactive design. Interactive design started as the interface between human and computer system, but now expanded to interior design field enhancing spatial experience of users. Now, many corporates are looking into interactive design to bridge the gap between company or brand identity and consumers as marketing tool. The current study investigates interactive concepts and characteristics of corporate participated public spaces and tries to define their design methods according to spatial marketing strategies. Using theoretical inquiry, cultural events and delivery of corporate identity information were defined as two major spatial strategies through cognitive or behavioral approaches. Moreover, digital, constructive, and expressive presentations were found to be most common design methods. Through this theoretical framework, 7 selected samples in Korea are analyzed in order to find detailed design characteristics. It is hoped that this study may serve in understanding current design approaches of interactive corporate public spaces and useful guideline when designing interactive public spaces not only as means of marketing strategies but even for public goods.
As life quality have grown today, People have been greatly interested in health. Moreover, new knowledge and concepts are being applied in the medical facility field and that makes the field expand constantly. Hereby, this research is a study on design elements of dental clinics and the research goals are to understand interior design of current dental clinics by investigation and analysis on furniture, closing materials, colors and so on, and to investigate esthetic and functional environments for dental clinics through analyzing upcoming trends of inner spaces of dental clinics. The investigation was conducted by visits to four clinics per each research area, where are in Busan area and opened after year 2000 and are located in Seoul and Busan. Though the spaces of dental clinics vary according to the characteristics of each clinic, it generally has a consultation room, a waiting room and an X-ray room. The closing materials that make patients feel at ease are used in the waiting room, and ones that make patients feel tidy and fresh are used in consultation spaces, spare spaces, and management spaces. In Seoul area, antique and harmonic colors are used, and modernistic colors are used in Busan area. Reception desks, chair units, sofas and sink storage shelfs are the common furniture in the clinic. We have learned what are mentioned above by research and investigation on the component characteristics of dental clinic spaces. Based on these, more systematical and in-depth research should be continued.
Postmodernism, a cultural movement which occurred in the mid-20th century, avoided functional form, one of the features of modernism, and pursued post-rational and post-centric pluralistic thought which puts human emotions in importance. Postmodernism set a high value on emotional instincts of humans and focused on creation of empathy. It includes scepticism of rationalism and indicates the significance of emotional and psychological instincts of humans, or 'emotions'. Along with the big change in that time, more dynamic and unprecedented indoor spaces had appeared. Nigel Coates, who had taken various kinds of artistic activity from the early 1980s to the late 1990s, had tried to make a new approach of objet-focused emotional spaces. Such an approach made in the time when science and technology had rapidly developed and social structure had changed was considerably fresh, liberal, and futuristic. He interpreted spaces by escaping from realistic intentions and communicating with drawings, and designed object-focused emotional spaces by actively employing objets on the basis of ideas. He tried to make emotional sharing between the public and spaces through objet, and showed unique spaces in his own way by reinterpreting the meanings of spaces and stimulating human emotion. This study was intended to look into his artworks to show his way of approaching objets, and to find an application plan and the future possibility of the plan.
In this study, the change of critical elements of the design evaluation was investigated during two decades at the architectural competition which was held nationwide in Germany. Specifically, the periods of investigation span both from July 1989 to June 1990 and from July 2009 to June 2010. The results of the analysis show that the cost of construction, the maintenance cost, the design of facade and the energy conservation are being magnified for the new important elements. The images of buildings and the economic aspects are meant to be high. The frequency of the critical elements for interior spaces is approximately two times more important than those for the forms and outdoor spaces. Overall, many juries of the architectural competition in Germany were interested in the elements for interior spaces. The field of function accounts for roughly the half of four basic architectural fields such as function, others, aesthetic and construction fields. The critical elements are required persistently such as context, Circulation, organization of space, form, landscape and outdoor space design, arrangement of building, cost of construction, function, design of facade, location of main entrance. These items are regarded as the most important elements of the design evaluation at the competition. Knowing the change of critical elements of the design evaluation, we can understand the trend of architecture in Germany. The results of this study can be applied in Korea to develop the critical elements of design.
