Si wafer direct bonding(SDB) technology is very attractive for both Si-on-insulator(SOI) electronic devices and MEMS applications. This paper presents on pre-bonding according to HF pre-treatment conditions in Si wafer direct bonding. The characteristics of bonded sample were measured under different bonding conditions of HF concentration and applied pressure. The bonding strength was evaluated by tensile strength method. A bond characteristic on the interface was analyzed by using FT-IR, and surface roughness according to HF concentration was analyzed by AFM. Si-F bonds on Si surface after HF pre-treatment are replaced by Si-OH during a DI water rinse. Consequently, hydrophobic wafer was bonded by hydrogen bonding of Si-OH$\cdots$(HOH$\cdots$HOH$\cdots$HOH)$\cdots$OH-Si. The pre-bonding strength depends on the HF pre-treatment condition before pre-bonding. (Min : $2.4kgf/cm^2{\sim}$Max : $14.9kgf/cm^2$)
The effect of application of dentin bonding agent to the exposed dentin on the intradental nerve activity (INA), dentinal fluid movement and sealing of the dentinal tubules, was investigated in this study. The INA was recorded from the single pulp nerve unit dissected from the inferior alveolar nerve. And specimen of dentin was observed by SEM. Dentinal fluid 'movement through exposed dentin surface was measured before and after the application of dentin bonding agent. 1. Eight Ao-fiber units (conduction velocity: $8.0{\pm}4.0m$/sec) were identified. 4M NaCl evoked an irregular burst of action potentials which ceased immediately after washing. 2. In 4 $A{\delta}$-fiber units, appliction of All Bond 2 completely abolished the INA induced by 4M NaCl. Also, application of Scotchbond Multipurpose(SBMP) totally abolished the INA induced by 4M NaCl in 4 $A{\delta}$-fiber units. 3. Before the application of dentin bonding agent, outward dentinal fluid movement of $10.2{\pm}5.7\;pl{\cdot}s^{-1}{\cdot}mm^{-2}$ was obsered. But after the application of dentin bonding agent the movement of dentinal fluid was stopped. 4. The gap width of 2-$3{\mu}m$ was formed between exposed dentin and adhesive resin in the specimens applied with dentin bonding agents of All Bone 2 and SBMP. But the formation of hybrid layer and the penetration of resin into were dentinal tubules were not clearly observed in interface between dentin and adhesive resin.

Paper has fibers and fines network structure and it is strongly affected by interface bond-ing between fibers. Paper structural properties can be determined depending on the inter-fiber bonding. Fines play an important role in Campbell and consolidation effect through wet pressing and drying operations. The fines are essential for the formation of bonds between fibers and for the improvement of strength properties of papers. Since the fines are components of the pulp, there are always two factors to be considered: the quality and quantity of the fines. The quality of fines might be a potential variable to give a more accurate picture of the papermaking potential of the pulp. The object of this study is to investigate the effect of different types of pulp fines on the properties of paper and to access the potential of fines for controlling the bulk of paper. Refined Sw-BKP, Hw-BKP and BCTMP fines were used to investigate the fines effect. Wet-web strength, breaking length, scattering coefficient, and hydrodynamic specific volume, and drying shrinkage were measured. According to the results, chemical and morphological compositions of fines do not strongly affect to wet-web forming by their similar Campbell effect, but strongly affect to drying operation which forms hydrogen bonding among fiber-fines-fiber matrixes. Paper bulk should be controlled by the extent of hydrogen bonding between fibers during drying operation.

A curved fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) panel is produced with a certain width depending on allowances of manufacturing processes and facilities. An targeted arch-shaped structure could be built by sequential connection of series of the FRP panels. The connection manner between the FRP panels could be given by chemical treatment, mechanical treatment and hybrid method. Among those, the connection between the panels by chemical treatment is commonly adopted. Therefore, For an optimized design of the connected part between FRP pannels, a number of direct shear tests have been undertaken in terms of a number of parameters: surface treatment conditions, bonding materials, etc.. As results, surface grinding condition by sand paper or surface treatment by sand blasting appear properly acceptable methods, and epoxy and acryl resins are shown to be effective bonding materials for the purpose in this study.
Field emission behavior from vitreous carbon powders deposited on Mo coated glass by electro-phoretic method was investigated. Although the vitreous carbon has only $sp^2$ hybridized carbon bond, we could observe an excellent field emission behavior. Reproducible electron emission was observed without initiation process which is known to be needed in most carbon cathode materials. Critical electric field for electron emission was in the range from 3 to 4 MV/m. The effective work function was estimated to be about 0.06 eV, as obtained from the slope of Fowler-Nordheim plot. The stability of the emission behavior characterized by repeated I-V measurements, was much superior to the Si tips. We observed the possibility of full area light emission in vitreous carbon materials. This results showed that the field emission is not intimately related to the $sp^3$ hybridization of carbon, but the electrical properties of cathod/electrode interface or the conductivity of the cathode materials which required for the electron transport to the cathode surface.
$SiO_xF_y$ optical thin films of lower refractive indices than glass substrates were fabricated by the CF$_4$ ion beam assisted deposition method and the optical, structural and chemical properties of them were investigated. Refractive index of $SiO_xF_y$ films was varied from 1.455 to 1.394 by decreasing the anode voltage or from 1.462 to 1.430 by increasing the current density of end-Hall ion source. FT-IR and XPS analyses show that as the F concentration increases, the Si-O bond at $1080m^{-1}$ shifts to higher wavenumber, the OH bonds are reduced drastically, and the fluorine atoms at the air-film interface are desorbed out by reacting with $H_2O$ in the atmosphere. $SiO_xF_y$ thin films are amorphous by the XRD analysis and have the compressive stress below 0.3 GPa. As an application of $SiO_xF_y$ thin films a two-layer antireflection coating was fabricated using a $SiO_xF_y$ film as a low refractive index layer and a Si film as an absorbing one.
Taking high geothermal tunnels as background, the deformation of concrete for shotcrete use was studied by simulating hot-humid and hot-dry environments in a laboratory. The research is made up by two parts, one is the influence of two kinds of high geothermal environments on the deformation of shotcrete, and the other is the shrinkage inhibited effect of fiber materials (steel fibers, polypropylene fibers, and the mixture of both) on the concrete in hot-dry environments. The research results show that: (1) in hot and humid environments, wet expansion and thermal expansion happened on concrete, but the deformation is smooth throughout the whole curing age. (2) In hot and dry environments, the concrete suffers from shrinkage. The deformation obeys linear relationship with the natural logarithm of curing age in the first 28 days, and it becomes stable after the $28^{th}$ day. (3) The shrinkage of concrete in a hot and dry environment can be inhibited by adding fiber materials especially steel fibers, and it also obeys linear relationship with the natural logarithm of curing age before it becomes stable. However, compared with no-fiber condition, it takes 14 days, half of 28 days, to make the shrinkage become stable, and the shrinkage ratio of concrete at 180-day age decreases by 63.2% as well. (4) According to submicroscopic and microscopic analysis, there is great bond strength at the interface between steel fiber and concrete. The fiber meshes are formed in concrete by disorderly distributed fibers, which not only can effectively restrain the shrinkage, but also prevent the micro and macro cracks from extending.

Fusion Bonded Epoxy(FBE) systems have been widely used to protect pipelines for over 30 years. Numerous attempts have so far been made to improve the properties of FBE coatings such as chemical resistance, adhesion, water resistance, cathodic disbondment resistance, impact resistance, and flexibility to protect pipelines at a wet and a high temperature condition. But these attempts have not been successful in reducing some weakness, for instance, in pipeline operating at high temperature due to poor hot water resistance and cathodic protection. The purpose here is to build a basis for getting better corrosion resistance of FBE systems. Cresol-novolac epoxy coating systems were studied compared to bisphenol A type epoxy systems. After the immersion of the film in water at a high temperature for a long period, good adhesion to metal substrate and excellent cathodic disbond resistance were observed in the cresol-novolac epoxy resin systems. It is well known that the adhesion of organic coatings to metal substrate might be decreased due to the disruption of a chemical bond across the film and metal interface induced by water molecules. A high crosslinking density might decrease water permeability and improve cathodic disbonding protection in the coatings. Other factors are studied to understand anti-corrosion mechanism of Cresol-novolac epoxy coatings. In addition, the water absorption rate and the effect of cure temperature on the adhesion and cathodic disbonding resistance ofthe films were studied in different epoxy coatings and the effect of substrate was evaluated. The results of field application are proved that the Cresol-novolac epoxy coating system developed recently is one of the most suitable coatings for protection of pipelines.
PURPOSES : In this study, a fracture-based finite element (FE) model is proposed to evaluate the fracture behavior of fiber-reinforced asphalt (FRA) concrete under various interface conditions. METHODS : A fracture-based FE model was developed to simulate a double-edge notched tension (DENT) test. A cohesive zone model (CZM) and linear viscoelastic model were implemented to model the fracture behavior and viscous behavior of the FRA concrete, respectively. Three models were developed to characterize the behavior of interfacial bonding between the fiber reinforcement and surrounding materials. In the first model, the fracture property of the asphalt concrete was modified to study the effect of fiber reinforcement. In the second model, spring elements were used to simulated the fiber reinforcement. In the third method, bar and spring elements, based on a nonlinear bond-slip model, were used to simulate the fiber reinforcement and interfacial bonding conditions. The performance of the FRA in resisting crack development under various interfacial conditions was evaluated. RESULTS : The elastic modulus of the fibers was not sensitive to the behavior of the FRA in the DENT test before crack initiation. After crack development, the fracture resistance of the FRA was found to have enhanced considerably as the elastic modulus of the fibers increased from 450 MPa to 900 MPa. When the adhesion between the fibers and asphalt concrete was sufficiently high, the fiber reinforcement was effective. It means that the interfacial bonding conditions affect the fracture resistance of the FRA significantly. CONCLUSIONS : The bar/spring element models were more effective in representing the local behavior of the fibers and interfacial bonding than the fracture energy approach. The reinforcement effect is more significant after crack initiation, as the fibers can be pulled out sufficiently. Both the elastic modulus of the fiber reinforcement and the interfacial bonding were significant in controlling crack development in the FRA.
The effect of the silicon acrylate as a reactive additive on the UV-curing photopolymerization reaction was studied by micro raman technique. For the study, acrylate systems and Darocur 1173 were used as oligomer and monomers, and a photo initiator, respectively. The content of silicon acrylate was within the range of 0-3 wt%. The extent of photo-polymerization reaction as a function of depth from the air interface was obtained from the conversion ratio of acrylate double bond calculated from the intensities of measured bands at $1410cm^{-1}$ and at $1635cm^{-1}$. Micro raman spectroscopic technique can be an useful tool for the investigation of the factors, which can affect the reaction progress, such as oxygen inhibition, composition of the formulations, depth, etc.
