In this thesis, we analyze performance related to reduction scheme of intercell interference causing serious problems in wiBro system. Frequency reusing factor(FUF) is 1 in WiBro system, and it means that a adjacent cell uses same frequency band. This channel environment raises intercell interference problem, which provokes serious problems related to system performance and channel capacity. Consequently, it affects deterioration in system performance as a whole. We analyze intercell interference when appling a various schemes such as (DCA)Dynamic Channel Allocation, CS(Channel Segregation), IMUFR(Interference Mitigation Using Frequency Reuse), IDMA(Interleave Division Multiple Access), IDMA(Interleave Division Multiple Access), FH-OFDM, CRSA(Conceptual Random Subcarrier Allocation), and HDD

In multicellular wireless networks, intercell interference limits system performance, especially cell edge user performance. One promising approach to solve this problem is the intercell interference coordination (ICIC) scheme. In this paper, we propose a new ICIC scheme based on a resource partitioning approach to enhance cell edge user performance in a wireless multicellular system. The most important feature of the proposed scheme is that the algorithm is performed at each base station in a distributed manner and therefore minimizes the required information exchange between neighboring base stations. The proposed scheme has benefits in a practical environment where the traffic load distribution is not uniform among base stations and the backhaul capacity between the base stations is limited.
OFDMA is considered as one of the major candidates for broadband wireless access. The OFDMA signal is usually coherently demodulated, requiring the channel estimation which can be estimated using a known pilot signal. In multi-cell environment, the performance of channel estimation is mainly limited by intercell interference. It is desirable to use a pilot signal that can estimate the channel information robust to the intercell interference in the OFDMA uplink system. In this paper, we consider two types of pilot signal applicable to multi-cell OFDMA uplink systems: One is time-multiplexed pilot signal and the other is codemultiplexed pilot signal. Simulation results show that the code-multiplexed pilot is suitable for low mobility environment and time-multiplexed pilot is suitable for high mobility environment.

In this Paper, a concept of virtual smart antenna (SA) is introduced for orthogonal Sequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based cellular systems with a frequency reuse factor equal to 1. The OFDM-based cellular system is robust to multipath channels but has a disadvantage that the intercell interference (ICI) caused by adjacent base stations is large at the edge of a cell. In this paper, after deriving the symbol timing offset estimation scheme for the OFDM signal received from multiple base stations in a quasi-static fading channel, the ICI cancellation method based on virtual smart antenna is proposed using the steering vector formed by the symbol timing offset of the desired signal and interference signals.

Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) techniques can be used for the spectral efficiency enhancement of the cellular systems, which can be categorized into spatial multiplexing (SM) and spatial diversity schemes. MIMO systems suffer a severe performance degradation due to the intercell interference from the adjacent cells as the mobile terminal moves toward the cell boundary. Therefore for the spectral efficiency enhancement, an appropriate transmission scheme for the given channel environment and reception scheme which can mitigate the intercell interference are required. In this paper, we propose an adaptive signal transmission/reception scheme for the spectral efficiency improvement of $M_R{\times}M_T$ MIMO systems, present the decision criteria for the adaptive operation of the proposed scheme, and demonstrate the performance gain. The proposed scheme performs adaptive transmission using spatial multiplexing and spatial diversity, and adaptive reception using maximal ratio combining (MRC) and intercell spatial demultiplexing (ISD) when the spatial diversity transmission is used at the transmitter. Spatial multiplexing/demultiplexing is performed at the high signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) range, and the transmit diversity in conjunction with the adaptive reception uses either conventional MRC or ISD which can mitigate the $M_R-1$ interference signals, based on the mobile location. For the performance evaluation of the proposed adaptive scheme, the probability density function (pdf) of the effective SIR for the transmission/reception methods in consideration are derived for $M_R{\times}M_T$ MIMO systems. Using the results, the average effective SIR and spectral efficiency are presented and compared with simulation results.
Rain attenuation and intercell interference are two crucial factors in the performance of broadband wireless access networks such as local multipoint distribution systems (LMDS) operating at frequencies above 20 GHz. Power control can enhance the performance of downlink CDMA-based LMDS systems by reducing intercell interference under clear sky conditions; however, it may damage system performance under rainy conditions. To ensure robust operation under both clear sky and rainy conditions, we propose a novel power-control scheme which applies an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) for downlink CDMA-based LMDS systems. In the proposed system, the rain rate and the number of users are two inputs of the fuzzy inference system, and output is defined as channel quality, which is applied in the power control scheme to adjust the power control region. Moreover, ITU-R P.530 is employed to estimate the rain attenuation. The influence of the rain rate and the number of users on the distance-based power control (DBPC) scheme is included in the simulation model as the training database. Simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme improves the throughput of the DBPC scheme.
The sum-rate capacity of multi-antenna broadcast channels recently has attracted much research interests. However, those effort mainly has focused on a single-cell system. In this paper, we consider a multi-cell system where a transmitter uses zero-forcing beamforming with multiple antennas. We select a linear zero-forcing weight that maximizes the sum-rate when intercell interference exists. With numerical investigation, we will show the sum-rate gain achieved by the proposed method gets larger when the number of interfering cells increases.

In typical cellular systems using frequency reuse scheme, the terminal suffers a performance degradation due to the intercell interference signals from adjacent cells as the terminal moves toward the cell boundary. In this paper, a signal transmission and reception scheme which achieve spatial multiplexing and beamforming gain from a distributed MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) channel using multiple-antenna terminal is proposed for the spectral efficiency enhancement in a multi-cell downlink environment, when geographically separated base stations cooperatively transmit signals. In particular, we analyze the effective signal-to-interference ratio and spectral efficiency of the proposed scheme for different frequency reuse patterns and for varying numbers of receive antennas, and compare with the performance of the MRC (maximal ratio combining) reception scheme in typical cellular systems. We evaluate the amount of transmission efficiency of the scheme by comparing the performance near the cell boundary where the strong intercell interference is experienced.

Intercell interference coordination (ICIC) is considered as a promising technique to increase the spectral efficiency of OFDMA cellular systems. The soft frequency reuse (SFR) and fractional frequency reuse (FFR) are representative and efficient management techniques for ICIC. Herein, to enhance the performance of the SFR scheme, we propose a call admission (CAC) scheme. In this CAC scheme, called Spectrum handoff-SFR(S-SFR), the spectrum handoff technique is applied to the user equipment (UE) located near the cell center. We derive the traffic analysis model to describe the S-SFR. In addition, a two-dimensional (2-D) Markov chain and an outage analysis are used in our analytical model. From the traffic analysis, the significant performance measures are the outage probability, call blocking probability, system throughput and resource utilization. Based on those, the outage probability and system throughput are obtained using resource utilization as an interference pattern. The analytical results are verified with computer simulation results. Finally, we compare our proposed scheme with other ICI schemes.
