  • The trends of smart devices and interactive media are demanding expansion of the form of Animation and there were some challenges to create interactive animation as completed contents. However, most of interactive storytelling with the branch structure do not meet the audiences' expectation and the use of distracters has even audiences' immersion drop down. This paper proposes 4 conditions for the completed interactive animation content. To suggest the way how to complete a story by the roles and actions of the audiences' participation, which is the most important one among 4 conditions above, this study has analyzed the story of . This interactive animation is considered as a successful case of interactive animation as an interactive contents with a completed story. This paper analyze the story with 20 functional narrative structure, semiotic rectangle and 'Actantial model' by Greimas in semiotics. Finally, this paper concludes 'what the interactive elements will be' and 'where the interactions will take place' in a traditional narrative structure through finding the answers of what the audience's role is.

  • In this paper, we developed an interactive animation authoring tool and developed the Android based interactive edutainment contents. The authoring tool for creating interactive animations developed in this paper is based on a graphical user interface, so users can easily create interactive animations. Interactive animation contents created by this authoring tool can be created as images and xml files so that they can be used directly on mobile devices. In order to increase learning efficiency for children, Android-based interactive edutainment electronic storybooks, which is implemented using this authoring tool, provided a recording function to listen to the parents' voice as well as an interactive action in which the characters move in accordance with the story line. We also provided a STEAM game that combines creativity and imagination with creative science and technology. Therefore, by creating the edutainment contents through the proposed authoring tool for interactive animation, various interactive animation contents could be produced more easily than the code implementation method. Through this study, I hope that it will be helpful for the development of various interactive edutainment contents to provide educational contents considering the quantity and quality to infants.

  • In this paper, we present an interactive 3D character modeling and animation including a data management tool for editing the animation. It includes an animation editor for changing animation sequences according to the modified structure of 3D object in the object structure editor. The animation tool has the feature that it can produce motion data independently of any modeling tool including our modeling tool. Differently from conventional 3D graphics tools that model objects based on geometrically calculated data, our tool models 3D geometric and animation data by approximating to the real object using 2D image interactively. There are some applications that do not need precise representation, but an easier way to obtain an approximated model looking similar to the real object. Our tool is appropriate for such applications. This paper has focused on the data management for enhancing the automatin and convenience when editing a motion or when mapping a motion to the other character.

  • The 3D contents are getting more attentions in various areas, such as in movies, advertising, games and exhibition contents. There are many authoring tools for making 3D Models and contents. However, those authoring tools take considerable amount of time to learn and to make 3D contents. In this paper, we propose the 3D model conversion algorithm to make 3D models from 2D pictures drawn on the touch screens or papers. The vertex animation method also proposed for the interactive 3D aquarium. The proposed vertex animation algorithm was tested for virtual 3D water creatures and compared with human-made animation. An Interactive 3D aquarium was implemented by using those proposed algorithms. Thus the simplicity and effectiveness of the algorithms can be applied to diverse industries.

  • This study suggests a model of experimental visual artworks with interactive art forms in which 2-D paintings are transformed to interactive 3-D animation works. Multimedia programming was employed to evolve objective still paintings to the animation of computer 3-D images with respect to visual ideas derived from visual components in the still painting and to response to the reactions users. The format and technique of the art works are based upon the contents developed by the author and the research materials are selected from the surrealistic paintings of tile world-famous Belgian painter, Rene Magritte. In the present paper, following topics are discussed in detail: a study of various visual cases occurring in transforming still paintings to animation works containing interactive components; a study of 3-D imaging and image processing techniques to transform 2-D paintings to 3-D images; animation techniques for interaction and overall structuring techniques; multimedia programming and user interface.

  • In interactive environments including computer games and virtual reality applications, we have increased need for interactive control of articulated body motions. Recently, physically based methods including constrained dynamics techniques are introduced to this area, in order to produce more realistic animation sequences. However, they are hard to achieve real-time control of articulated bodies, due to their heavy computations. In this paper, we present a procedural method for interactive animation of articulated bodies. In our method, each object of the constrained body is first moved according to their physical properties and external forces, without considering any constraints. Then, the locations of objects are adjusted to satisfy given constraints. Through adapting this two-stage approach, we have avoided the solving of large linear systems of equations, to finally achieve the interactive animation of articulated bodies. We also present a few example sequences of animations, which are interactively generated on PC platforms. This method can be easily applied to character animations in virtual environments.

  • Rather than a directing method of existing animations, VR animation needs a different method of direction. Existing animations were displayed on a screen in movie theaters. But using an existing direction method for the 360° perspective in a VR animation makes it difficult for the user's gaze to move in a way the directors have intended. I analyzed 3 VR animations with a theoretical background of Rudolf Arnheim's visual perception theory and Bruce Block's visual factors that bring high attention. In the process of perception of space, focus on the gaze, movement of the gaze, the 'movement' factor was used most often to attract the gaze. An interactive VR animation attracts user's gaze by allowing users to participate in important points of the story. With an analysis of the animation, it proposed a gaze attraction through the movement of the character with an interaction directing method for reducing motion sickness. Also, it proposed intuitively attracting gaze movement by using GUI and attracting user's participation by using an interactive event with an interaction directing method of storytelling comprehension. With two types of directing proposal, we expect it to be utilized as a basic research method for attracting users to be immersed in storytelling while reducing cyber motion sickness, which is a problem in VR animation.

  • In this paper, we propose an interactive system that generates emotional expressions from arm gestures. By extracting relevant features from key frames, we can infer emotions from arm gestures. The necessary factor for real-time animation is tremendous frame rates. Thus, we propose processing facial emotion expression with 3D application for minimizing animation time. And we propose a method for matching frames and actions. By matching image sequences of exagerrated arm gestures from participants, they feel that they are communicating directly with the portraits.
