  • Nowadays, with progresses in robotic science, the design and implementation of a mechanism for human-robot interaction with a low workload is inevitable. One notable challenge in this field is the interaction between a single human and a group of robots. Therefore, we propose a new comprehensive framework for single-human multiple-robot remote interaction that can form an efficient intelligent adaptive interaction (IAI). Our interaction system can thoroughly adapt itself to changes in interaction context and user states. Some advantages of our devised IAI framework are lower workload, higher level of situation awareness, and efficient interaction. In this paper, we introduce a new IAI architecture as our comprehensive mechanism. In order to practically examine the architecture, we implemented our proposed IAI to control a group of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) under different scenarios. The results show that our devised IAI framework can effectively reduce human workload and the level of situation awareness, and concurrently foster the mission completion percentage of the UAVs.

  • Contemporary architecture has shown interest in surface after breaking off the relation with structure. Also, the development of contemporary media has brought the great change to the surface of architecture. Interaction among the people, architecture, and environment is also the main point of interest in adapting the role of media to the architecture. But contemporary media itself have been applied on surface in architecture lately. So, it is purpose of the study to analyze the contemporary media characteristics application on the surfaces of EXPO pavilions based on the related characteristics of interaction effects. The categories and the contents for the frame of case studies were arranged through document research and field study. Case studies were focused on the pavilions of the World Exposition Shanghai China 2010. Surface can make the interaction between human and architecture more dramatically by the application the role of media. It was analyzed through the study that the interaction level of people is the important issue shared in digital or analog media application on surface of pavilion. The complementary relationship between surface of contemporary architecture and contemporary media can be manipulated and enriched by the application of various style of media on surface.

  • We studied the interaction of 3,3',3'',3'''-ethylenetetrakis-4-hydroxycoumarin (EHC) with bovine serum albumin (BSA) in acetate buffer and phosphate buffer with different pH values by UV-vis absorption spectrometry and fluorescence spectrometry respectively. It was found that the pH values of the buffer solutions had an effect on the interaction process. In acetate buffer of pH 4.70, the carbonyl groups in EHC bound to the amino groups in BSA by means of hydrogen bond and van der Waals force, which made the extent of peptide chain in BSA changed. By contrast, in phosphate buffer of pH 7.40, hydrophobic force played a major role in the interaction between EHC and BSA, while the hydrogen bond and van der Waals force were also involved in the interaction. The results of spectrometry indicated that BSA could enhance the fluorescence intensity of EHC by forming a 1:1 EHC-BSA fluorescent complex through static mechanism at pH 4.70 and 7.40 respectively. Furthermore, EHC bound on site 1 in BSA.

  • Software architecture, as a blueprint for the system, should provide a robust foundation for design, implementation, and maintenance, for communication and documentation, and for reasoning about important system properties. Software architecture plays a central role during the whole software life-cycle. There are so diverse definitions of the software architecture, however, and there is no common agreement about what software architecture is. Examining 27 'published' definitions of software architecture, we synthesize an extensive model on the essential elements of software architecture, which consists of components, interaction among components, well-formed structure, reasons, and various perspectives. Further, we explore the possibility of unifying diverse software architecture definitions into a software architecture life-cycle model.

  • In the present study, the structural response of breakwaters installed on container carriers against green water impact loads was numerically investigated on the basis of the fluid-structure interaction analysis. A series of numerical studies is carried out to induce breakwater collapse under such conditions, whereby a widely accepted fluid-structure interaction analysis technique is adopted to realistically consider the phenomenon of green water impact loads. In addition, the structural behaviour of these breakwaters under green water impact loads is investigated simultaneously throughout the transient analysis. A verification study of the numerical results is performed using data from actual collapse incidents of breakwaters on container carriers. On the basis of the results of a series of numerical analyses, the pressure distribution of green water was accurately predicted with respect to wave mass and velocity. It is expected that the proposed analytical methodology and predicted pressure distribution could be used as a practical guideline for the design of breakwaters on container carriers.

  • Vision-based activity recognition has been widely attempted at construction sites to estimate productivity and enhance workers' health and safety. Previous studies have focused on extracting an individual worker's postural information from sequential image frames for activity recognition. However, various trades of workers perform different tasks with similar postural patterns, which degrades the performance of activity recognition based on postural information. To this end, this research exploited a concept of human-object interaction, the interaction between a worker and their surrounding objects, considering the fact that trade workers interact with a specific object (e.g., working tools or construction materials) relevant to their trades. This research developed an approach to understand the context from sequential image frames based on four features: posture, object, spatial features, and temporal feature. Both posture and object features were used to analyze the interaction between the worker and the target object, and the other two features were used to detect movements from the entire region of image frames in both temporal and spatial domains. The developed approach used convolutional neural networks (CNN) for feature extractors and activity classifiers and long short-term memory (LSTM) was also used as an activity classifier. The developed approach provided an average accuracy of 85.96% for classifying 12 target construction tasks performed by two trades of workers, which was higher than two benchmark models. This experimental result indicated that integrating a concept of the human-object interaction offers great benefits in activity recognition when various trade workers coexist in a scene.

  • Resonance occurrence conditions are explored by performing dynamic interaction analysis of arch bridge and KTX trains. The target bridge is a 3D tied-arch bridge having span length of 120m. KTX trains consist of two power carriages, two power and passenger carriages and sixteen passenger carriages. When KTX trains run on the target bridge with the uniform speed of 100 to 500km/h, the dynamic responses of the bridge induced by moving trains are obtained from railway arch bridge-train interaction analysis. Two resonance conditions are presented and whether the resonance phenomena occur or not at the suspicious resonance velocities is rigorously investigated through bridge deflections and accelerations and their FFT analysis.

  • Tidal-current power is now recognized as a clean power resource. The turbine blade is the fundamental component of a tidal current power turbine. The kinetic energy available within a tidal current can be converted into rotational power by turbine blades. While in service, turbine blades are generally subjected to cyclic fatigue loading due to their rotation and the rotor-tower interaction. Predicting the fatigue life under a hydrodynamic fatigue load is very important to prevent blade failure while in service. To predict the fatigue life, hydrodynamic load data should be acquired. In this study, the vibration characteristics were analyzed based on three-dimensional unsteady simulations to obtain the cyclic fatigue load. Our results can be applied to the fatigue design of horizontal-axis tidal turbines.
