  • Vapor-liquid equilibrium apparatus is designed and set up. The vapor-liquid equilibrium data of the binary system HFC125/134a are measured in the range between 268.15 and 283.15K at five compositions. Twenty-five equilibrium data are obtained. To verify consistency of these data, they are tested for thermodynamic consistency. Based upon the present data, the binary interaction parameter for CSD and RKS equation of state is calculated at five isotherms and comparison with the data in the open literatures is made. Results of Nagel and Bier are in very good agreements with those from this study within 0.32∼1.11% for bubble point pressure and -0.66∼0.18% for vapor mole fraction.

  • In recent years some very substantial advances have been made in our understanding of oogenesis as a result of studies on a relatively few, very diverse species of animals. In this lecture I will (1) outline normal oogenesis using an advanced insect, Drosophila melanogaster, as an example, (2) show how oogenesis can be dissected genetically by studying the ovarian pathologies of flies homozygous for various recessive, female sterile genes, and (3) discuss how estimates can be made of the fraction of the Drosophila genome devoted to oogenesis. Then I will describe studies on mutations that block vitello-genesis in Drosophila and indicate what they tell us about inter actions between the ovary, the fat body and the endocrine system. I will next discuss the evolutionary mechanisms that have been adopted in higher insects and amphibians to produce the prodigious quantities of ribosomes stored in oocytes. I will end with an account of the results of recent stuides on amphibian lampbrush chromosomes which show how messenger RNAs are transcribed during oogenesis.

  • The incomplete saturation and the void formation during the resin infiltration into fibrous porous media in the resin transfer molding process cause failure in the final product during its service. In order to better understand flow behavior during the filling process, a finite-element scheme for transient flow simulation across the micro-structured fibrous media is developed in the present work. A volume-of- fluid (VOF) method has been incorporated in the Eulerian frame to capture the evolution of flow front and the vertical periodic boundary condition has been combined to avoid unwanted wall effect. In the microscale simulation, we investigated the transient filling process in various fiber structures and discussed the mechanism leading to the flow fingering in the case of random fiber distribution. Effects of the filling pressure, the shear-thinning behavior of fluid and the volume fraction on the flow front have been investigated for both intra-tow and the inter-tow flows in dual-scale fiber tow models.

  • The chemical, physical, and emulsifying properties of BSF-1, which is an extracellular lipopolysaccharide biosurfactant produced by Klebsiella oxytoca strain BSF-1, were studied. BSF-1 was found to be composed mainly of carbohydrate and fatty acids. The average molecular weight was $1,700{\sim}2,000 kDa$. The polysaccharide fraction contained L-rhamnose, D-galactose, D-glucose, and D-glucuronic acid at a molar ratio of 3:1: 1:1. The fatty acid content was 1.1 % (w/w) and consisted mainly of palmitic acid (C16:0), 3-hydroxylauric acid (3-OH-C12:0), and lauric acid (C12:0). In terms of thermal properties, BSF-1 was revealed to have inter- and intra-molecular hydrogen bonds. The hydrodynamic volume (intrinsic viscosity) of BSF-1 was 22.8dL/g. BSF-1 could be maintained as a stable emulsion for 48 h through a low-level reduction in surface tension. The optimal emulsification temperature was $30^{\circ}C$. Emulsification by BSF-1 was efficient at both acidic and neutral pH values.

  • $Pb_{x}Cd_{1-x}S$ films are prepared in the composition range of 0.05${\leq}x{\leq}$0.25, using a chemical bath deposition growth technique under optimum conditions amide at realizing good photo response. The x-ray diffraction results show that the films are of PbS-CdS composite with individual CdS and PbS planes. The films exhibit two direct band gaps, 2.4 eV attributed to CdS, while the other varies continuously from 2.4 eV to 1.3 eV. The films surface morphology is smooth with crystallite, whose grain size increases with increasing mole fraction (x). The decrease in band gap with increase in lead concentration suggests inter-metallic compound of PbS (Eg=0.41 eV) with CdS (Eg=2.4 eV)

  • The composition of the phenolic compounds of 14 species, 2 varieties and I taxon of the Sedum plant in Korea were studied to identify their inter-specific relationships and their taxonomical position. The phenograms and contour diagrams obtained from the HPLC of EtOAc soluble fraction of these plants were classified into 7 alliances according to their chemical patterns. These chemical patterns agreed with Satake's classification except for Sedum aizoon. These plants were subdivided into 5 alliances in the Sedum section and 2 alliances in the Hylotelephium section. I type of the Sedum spectabile showed a difference in the number of stamens, it could be trated as another category above variety according to this result.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the cavitation phenomena in centrifugal pumps through computational fluid dynamics method. NPSH characteristic curve is measured from different flow operating conditions. Steady state, liquid-vapor homogeneous method with two equations transport turbulence model is employed to estimate the NPSH curve in centrifugal pumps. The Rayleigh-Plesset cavitation model is adapted as source term for inter-phase mass transfer in order to understand cavitation phenomena in centrifugal pumps. The cavitation incipient curve is clearly estimated at different flows operating conditions. A relationship is made between cavitation incipient and NPSH curve. Also the effects on water vapor volume fraction and pressure load distributions on the impeller blade are also described.

  • Base station coordination has received much attention as a means to reduce the inter-cell interference in cellular networks. However, this interference reducing ability comes at the expense of increased feedback, backhaul load and computational complexity. The degree of coordination is therefore limited in practice. In this paper, we explore the trade-off between capacity and feedback load in a cellular network with coordination clusters. Our main interest lies in a scenario with multiple fading users in each cell. The results indicate that a large fraction of the total gain can be achieved by a significant reduction in feedback. We also find an approximate expression for the distribution of the instantaneous signal to interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) and propose a new effective scheduling algorithm.

  • Densification behavior of nano-agglomerate powder during pressureless sintering of Fe-Ni nanopowder was investigated in terms of diffusion kinetics and microstructural development. To understand the role of agglomerate boundary for sintering process, densification kinetics of Fe-Ni nano-agglomerate powder with different agglomerate size was investigated. It was found that activation energy for densification was lower in the small-sized agglomerate powder. The increase in the volume fraction of inter-agglomerate boundary acting as high diffusion path might be responsible for the enhanced diffusion process.

  • We study the bending wave, shear wave and longitudinal wave characteristics in the double nanobeams in this paper for the first time, in the process of research, based on the Reddy's higher-order shear deformation theory and considering shear layer stiffness, linear stiffness, inter-laminar stiffness, the pore volume fraction, temperature variation, functionally graded index influence on wave propagation, based on the nonlocal strain gradient theory and Hamilton variational principle, the wave equation of the double-nanometer beams are derived. Since there are three different motion states for the double nanobeams, which includes the cases of "in phase", "out of phase" and "one nanobeam fixed", the propagation characteristics of shear-, bending-, and longitudinal- waves in these three cases are discussed respectively, and some valuable conclusions are obtained.
