  • Recently various prediction structures have been proposed to exploit inter-view correlation among multi-view video sequences. In this paper, we propose a QP(quantization parameter) selection method for the B frame inserted in the first frames of each GOP(group of pictures), where we change QP for the B frame adaptively to achieve uniform picture quality and overall coding gain. Each B frame is coded with reference to two frames in its adjacent views. We calculate QP for the B frame based on the correlation between the two reference frames, calculated using their rate-distortion costs. By applying the proposed method to the MVC reference prediction structure, we have improved the coding gain by 0.09$\sim$0.16 dB.

  • This paper studied the prediction of structural damage indices to buildings after earthquake occurrence using Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) and Fuzzy Linear Regression (FLR) methods. Particularly, the structural damage degree, represented by the Maximum Inter Story Drift Ratio (MISDR), is an essential factor that ensures the safety of the building. Thus, the seismic response of a steel building was evaluated, utilizing 65 seismic accelerograms as input signals. Among the several response quantities, the focus is on the MISDR, which expresses the postseismic damage status. Using MLR and FLR methods and comparing the outputs with the corresponding evaluated by nonlinear dynamic analyses, it was concluded that the FLR method had the most accurate prediction results in contrast to the MLR method. A blind prediction applying a set of another 10 artificial accelerograms also examined the model's effectiveness. The results revealed that the use of the FLR method had the smallest average percentage error level for every set of applied accelerograms, and thus it is a suitable modeling tool in earthquake engineering.

  • This paper proposes a global search based motion estimation algorithm for high performance HEVC encoder and its hardware architecture. To eliminate temporal redundancy, motion estimation in HEVC inter-view prediction uses global search and fast search algorithm to search for a predicted block having a high correlation with the current PU in an interpolated reference picture. The global search method predicts the motion of all candidate blocks in a given search area, thus ensuring optimal results, but has a disadvantage of large computation time. Therefore we propose a new algorithm that reduces computational complexity by reusing SAD operation in global search to reduce computation time of inter prediction. As a result of applying the proposed algorithm to standard software HM16.12, the computation time was reduced by 61%, BDBitrate by 11.81%, and BDPSNR by about 0.5% compared with the existing search algorithm. As a result of hardware design, the maximum operating frequency is 255 MHz and the total number of gates is 65.1K.

  • Recently, a lot of images containing various global movements have been generated by the activation of the photographic equipment such as the drone and the action cam. In this case, when the motion such as rotation, scaling is generated, it is difficult to expect a high coding efficiency in the conventional inter-picture prediction method using the 2D motion vector. In this paper, we propose a video coding method that reflects global motion through homography reference pictures. As a proposed method, there are 1) a method of generating a new reference picture by grasping a global motion relation between a current picture and a reference picture by homography, and 2) a method of utilizing a homography reference picture for inter-picture prediction. The experiment was applied to the HEVC reference software HM 14.0, and the experimental result showed an increase in encoding efficiency of 6.6% based on RA. Especially, the results using the videos with rotational motion have a maximum coding efficiency of 32.6%, which is expected to show high efficiency in video, which is often represented by complex global motion such as drones.

  • This paper represents a reentry time prediction analysis of CZ-5B rocket-body in China, subject to analysis of the Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee Reentry (IADC) reentry test campaign conducted in May 2021. Predicting the reentry of space objects is difficult to accurately predict due to the lack of accurate physical information about target, and uncertainty in atmospheric density. Therefore, IADC conducts annual re-entry campaigns to verify analysis techniques by each agency, and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute has also participated in them since 2015. Ballistic coefficient estimation method proposed to predict target reentry time and the result confirmed the difference of 73 seconds, which confirms the accuracy of the proposed method.

  • Inter-prediction is always the main bottleneck in H.264/AVC baseline profile. This paper describes an efficient inter-prediction hardware architecture design. H.264/AVC decoder supports various block types but reference software considers only the $4{\times}4$ block when the reference block is being fetched. This causes duplicated pixels which needs extra fetch cycles. In order to eliminate some of the duplicated pixels, the $8{\times}8$ and $4{\times}4$ blocks were considered in the previous design. If the block size is larger than or equal to the $8{\times}8$ block, it will be decomposed into several $8{\times}8$ blocks and if the block size is smaller than the $8{\times}8$ block it will be decomposed into several $4{\times}4$ blocks. Comparing with the reference software, the maximum and minimum cycle reduction of the previous design are 41.5% and 28.2% respectively. For further reduction of the fetch cycles, the various block types are considered in this paper. As a result, the maximum cycle reduction is 18.6% comparing with the previous design.

  • We propose a fast macroblock (MB) mode prediction and decision algorithm based on temporal correlation for P-slices in the H.264/AVC video standard. There are eight block types for temporal decorrelation, including SKIP mode based on rate-distortion (RD) optimization. This scheme gives rise to exhaustive computations (search) in the coding procedure. To overcome this problem, a thresholding method for fast inter mode decision using a MB tracking scheme to find the most correlated block and RD cost of the correlated block is suggested for early stop of the inter mode determination. We propose a two-step inter mode candidate selection method using statistical analysis. In the first step, a mode is selected based on the mode information of the co-located MB from the previous frame. Then, an adaptive thresholding scheme is applied using the RD cost of the most correlated MB. Secondly, additional candidate modes are considered to determine the best mode of the initial candidate modes that does not satisfy the designed thresholding rule. Comparative analysis shows that a speed-up factor of up to 70.59% is obtained when compared with the full mode search method with a negligible bit increment and a minimal loss of image quality.

  • This paper discusses the surface roughness of negative chemically amplified resists, SAL601 exposed by I-beam direct writing. system. Surface roughness, as measured by atomic force microscopy, have been simulated and compared to experimental results. Molecular-scale simulator predicts the roughness dependence on material properties and process conditions. A chemical amplification is made to occur in the resists during PEB process. Monte-Carlo and exposure simulations are used as the same program as before. However, molecular-scale PEB simulation has been remodeled using a two-dimensional molecular lattice representation of the polymer matrix. Changes in surface roughness are shown to correlate with the dose of exposure and tile baking time of PEB process. The result of simulation has a similar tendency with that of experiment.

  • In a satellite gravimetry mission similar to GRACE, the precision of inter-satellite ranging is one of the key factors affecting the quality of gravity field recovery. In this paper, the impact of ranging precision on the accuracy of recovered geopotential coefficients is analyzed. Simulated precise orbit determination (POD) data and inter-satellite range data of formation-flying satellites containing white noise were generated, and geopotential coefficients were recovered from these simulated data sets using the crude acceleration approach. The accuracy of the recovered coefficients was quantitatively compared between data sets encompassing different ranging precisions. From this analysis, a rough prediction of the accuracy of geopotential coefficients could be obtained from the hypothetical mission. For a given POD precision, a ranging measurement precision that matches the POD precision was determined. Since the purpose of adopting inter-satellite ranging in a gravimetry mission is to overcome the imprecision of determining orbits, ranging measurements should be more precise than POD. For that reason, it can be concluded that this critical ranging precision matching the POD precision can serve as the minimum precision requirement for an on-board ranging device. Although the result obtained herein is about a very particular case, this methodology can also be applied in cases where different parameters are used.

  • Mechanical properties of GFRP rebars significantly decrease due to high temperature as well as alkalinity of concrete. This study focuses on the long-term reduction of inter-laminar shear strength of pre-damaged GFRP rebars by high temperature. For this investigation, bare GFRP rebar specimens were exposed to $270^{\circ}C$ for 1hour and then immerged in alkali solution for several months and tested in shear. No thermally conditioned specimens were immerged and tested for the comparisons. In results, the reduction of thermally damaged GFRP rebars was greater than that of no thermally damaged ones. Based on the accelerated experimental test data, an polynomial equation is presented for prediction of long-term residual inter-laminar shear strength of GFRP rebars previously damaged by high temperature.
