In this paper, we propose a new hybrid speed function for image segmentation using level set. A new proposed speed function uses the region and boundary information of image object for the exact result of segmentation. The region information is defined by the probability information of pixel intensity in a ROI(region-of-interest), and the boundary information is defined by the gradient vector flow obtained from the gradient of image. We show the results of experiment for an various artificial image and real medical image to verify the accuracy of segmentation using proposed method.

Stress and displacement fields of a propagating Mode III crack in an orthotropic functionally gradient material (OFGM), which has (1) linear variation of shear modulus with a constant density, and (2) an exponential variation of shear modulus and density, are derived. The equations of motion in OFGM are developed and solution to the displacement and stress fields fer a propagating crack at constant speed though an asymptotic analysis. The stress terms associated with $\gamma^{-1/2}\;and\;\gamma^{0}$ are not affected by the FGM constant $\zeta$ which is nonhomogeneous parameter, only on the higher order terms, the influences of nonhomogeneity on the stress are explicitly brought out. When the FGM constant $\zeta\;is\;zero\;or\;\gamma{\rightarrow}0$, the fields for OFGM are almost same as the those for homogeneous orthotropic material. Using the stress components, the effects of nonhomogeneity on stress components are discussed.

Hot-wire measurements of second and third-order mean products of velocity fluctuations have been made in the separated, reattached, and redeveloping boundary layer behind a vertical fence. Mean velocity, wall static pressure distributions have also been measured in the whole flow field. Upstream of the reattachment point, the separated shear layer developes as a free mixing layer, but the gradient of the maximum slope thickness, turbulent intensities and the Reynolds shear stress are higher than that of the mixing layer due to initial streamline curvature and the effects of highly turbulent recirculating flow region. In the reattachment region, Reynolds shear stress and triple products near the surface is far more rapid than the decrease of the shear stress; that is the presence of the solid wall has a marked effect on the apparent gradient diffusivity of intensity or shear stress and throws doubts upon the usefulness of the simple gradient diffusivity model in this region.
The bacterial communities in the intestinal tracts of earthworm were investigated by culture-dependent and -independent approaches. In total, 72 and 55 pure cultures were isolated from the intestinal tracts of earthworms under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, respectively. Aerobic bacteria were classified as Aeromonas (40%), Bacillus (37%), Photobacterium (10%), Pseudomonas (7%), and Shewanella (6%). Anaerobic bacteria were classified as Aeromonas (52%), Bacillus (27%), Shewanella (12%), Paenibacillus (5%), Clostridium (2%), and Cellulosimicrobium (2%). The dominant microorganisms were Aeromonas and Bacillus species under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. In all, 39 DNA fragments were identified by polymerase chain reaction-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE) analysis. Aeromonas sp. was the dominant microorganism in feeds, intestinal tracts, and casts of earthworms. The DGGE band intensity of Aeromonas from feeds, intestinal tracts, and casts of earthworms was 12.8%, 14.7%, and 15.1%, respectively. The other strains identified were Bacillus, Clostridium, Enterobacter, Photobacterium, Pseudomonas, Shewanella, Streptomyces, uncultured Chloroflexi bacterium, and uncultured bacterium. These results suggest that PCR-DGGE analysis was more efficient than the culturedependent approach for the investigation of bacterial diversity and the identification of unculturable microorganisms.

This paper describes an efficient framework for the extraction of a brain tumor from magnetic resonance (MR) images. Before the segmentation process, a median filter is used to filter the image. Then, the morphological gradient is computed and added to the filtered image for intensity enhancement. After the enhancement process, the thresholding value is calculated using the mean and the standard deviation of the image. This thresholding value is used to binarize the image followed by the morphological operations. Moreover, the combination of these morphological operations allows to compute the local thresholding image supported by a flood-fill algorithm and a pixel replacement process to extract the tumor from the brain. Thus, this framework provides a new source of evidence in the field of segmentation that the specialist can aggregate with the segmentation results in order to soften his/her own decision.

Multiview plus depth (MVD) videos are widely used in free-viewpoint TV systems. The best-known technique to determine depth information is based on stereo vision. In this paper, we propose a novel local stereo matching algorithm which is radiometric invariant. The key idea is to use a combined matching cost of intensity and gradient based similarity measure. In addition, we realize an adaptive cost aggregation scheme by constructing an adaptive support window for each pixel, which can solve the boundary and low texture problems. In the disparity refinement process, we propose a four-step post-processing technique to handle outliers and occlusions. Moreover, we conduct stereo reconstruction tests to verify the performance of the algorithm more intuitively. Experimental results show that the proposed method is effective and robust against local radiometric distortion. It has an average error of 5.93% on the Middlebury benchmark and is compatible to the state-of-art local methods.
In this paper, we propose a new scheme for automatic segmentation of the liver in CT images. The proposed scheme is carried out on region of interest(ROI) blocks that include regions of the liver with high probabilities. The ROI approach saves unnecessary computational loss in finding the accurate boundary of the liver. The proposed method utilizes the composition of multi-size morphological filters with a prior knowledge, such as the general location or the approximate intensity of the liver to detect the initial boundary of the liver. Then, we make the gradient image with the weight of the initial liver boundary and segment the liver legion by using an immersion-based waters hed algorithm in the gradient image. finally, the refining process is carried out to acquire a more accurate liver region.

Though the increment of using computer vision system in modern industry, there are lots of difficulties to measure precisely because of measurement error distortion phenomenon. Between these reasons, the distortion of edge is dominant reason which is occured by the blurred image. The blurred image is happened when camera can not discriminate its precise focus. To correct and generalize distortion phenomenon is imprrtant. Thus we must fix the discrimination criteria which is collected by image recognition of precise focus. The edge of image means discontinuous point of intensity, and the component of edge is discribed as high frequency component at special domain specturm of image. The good condition of focus means there are much high frequency energy in image. The method of discribing high frequency energy is gradient operater which determines the condition of focus.
This research presents an investigation on the thermal buckling resistance of FGM plates having parabolic-concave thickness variation exposed to uniform and gradient temperature change. An analytical formulation is derived and the governing differential equation of thermal stability is solved numerically using finite difference method. A specific function of thickness variation is introduced where it controls the parabolic variation intensity of the thickness without changing the original material volume. The results indicated that the loss ratio in buckling resistance is the same for any gradient temperature profile. Influencing geometrical and material parameters on the loss ratio in the thermal resistance buckling are investigated which may help in design guidelines of such complex structures.

To investigate accuracy of intensity method for measurement of the fiber orientation distribution, fiber orientation function is calculated by drawing simulation figures for the fiber orientation as varying fiber aspect ratio, fiber area ratio, and fiber orientation state, respectively. The values of fiber orientation function measured by intensity method are compared with the calculated values of fiber orientation function. The results show that measurement accuracy of the fiber orientation angle distribution by intensity method is affected by the fiber aspect ratio when the total length of oriented fiber is same. The average gradient of fiber orientation function is 0.94 for 1000mm of the total fiber length and is 0.93 for 2000 mm when the fiber aspect ratio is over 50. Measurement accuracy by intensity method is about 94% and the reliable data can be obtained by intensity method.
