A Stability Test of the Regression Coefficients for the Linear Models using Chow Test (차우검정을 활용한 선형회귀모형간 유사성 검증)

  • In this research, we tried to check the applicability of a Chow test to the linear models which are generated in the process of transportation planning or traffic flow analyses. The Chow test is a very popular statistical method which is being used to see if the coefficients from two separate linear regression models are equal or not. In order to prove the effectiveness of the Chow test, we found the linear relationships between speed and density under the situations such as driving in daytime and in nighttime on a rainy day. Based on the two months of Joong-Bu Expressway traffic data, we proved that the Chow test is useful to testify the similarity between two linear regression models. And this statistical tool seems to be able to have a very important role in traffic flow analysis or in transportation planning process. Finally, we expect the Chow test be implemented even to the non-linear regression models or to the multi-variate models.

A study on the Traffic Density Collect System using View Synthesis and Data Analysis (영상정합을 이용한 교통밀도 수집방법과 수집 데이터 비교분석)

  • Traffic Density is the most important of the three primary macroscopic traffic stream parameters, because it is most directly related to traffic demand(Traffic Engineering, 2004). It is defined as the number of existing vehicles within a given distance at a certain time. However, due to weather, road conditions, and cost issues, collecting density directly on the field is difficult. This makes studies of density less actively than those of traffic volume or velocity. For these reasons, there is insufficient attempts on divers collecting methods or researches on the accuracy of measured values. In this paper, we used the 'Density Measuring System' based on the synthesise technology of several camera images as a method to measure density. The collected density value by the 'Density Mesuring System' is selected as the true value based on the density define, and this value was compared with the density calculated by the traditional measurement methods. As a result of the comparison, the density value using the fundamental equation method is the closest to the true value as RMSE shows 1.8 to 2.5. In addition, we investigated some issues that can be overlooked easily such as the collecting interval to be considered on collecting density directly by calculating the moment density and the average density. Despite the actual traffic situation of the experiment site is LOS B, it is difficult to judge the real traffic situation because the moment density values per second are observed max 16.0 (veh/km) to min 2.0 (veh/km). However, the average density measured for 15 minutes at 30-second intervals was 8.3-7.9 (veh/km) and it indicates precisely LOS B.

The Development of Operating Standards for the Adjustment of Pedestrian Green Phasing at a Signalized Intersection (신호교차로에서 보행자신호 전시간 운영기준 설정을 위한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to test the effects of the pedestrian green signal adjustment on clearance of the turning vehicles impeding the through traffic flow at the signalized intersections, and thereby, suggest some operational criteria for adjustment of the pedestrian green signal. In order to test such effects, the pedestrian green time was adjusted so that it could started a few seconds later than the vehicle green time during peak hours, and thereby, the turning vehicle volume not cleared at the intersection was measured by extending the time gap by 2 seconds. (In general, the pedestrian green signal turns on at the same time as the vehicle green signal.) The results of this test can be summed up as follows; first, the longer the time gap was, the turning vehicle volume not cleared from the intersection decreased more. Second, in case there existed a storage space between intersection and crosswalk the effect of the turning vehicles on the through traffic flows was minimal. Third, at the pelican, the effect of the turning vehicles on the through traffic flow was minimal due to the structure of the intersection and the phase sequence. In conclusion, it was found that the adjustment of pedestrian green signal had the effect of enhancing the intersection operation. When adjusting the pedestrian green signal, it was deemed necessary to thoroughly survey the geometric structure of the intersection and collect the data on the turning traffic volume and thereby, apply the results of analysis flexibly to each intersection.

Analysis of the Effect of Carbon Dioxide Reduction by Changing from Signalized Intersection to Roundabout using Tier 3 Method (Tier 3 방법을 이용한 회전교차로 도입에 따른 $CO_2$ 감축효과)

  • Delay reduction of vehicles at the intersection is highly dependent on the signal operation method. Improper traffic operation causes the violation of the traffic regulations and increasing traffic congestion. Delay because of congestion has contributed to the increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The focus of this paper is to measure the amount of carbon dioxide when the intersection is changed to roundabout. Even though, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC) recommends Tier 1 method to measure the amount of greenhouse gas from vehicles, this paper used Tier 3 method because we could use the data of average running distance per each vehicle model. Two signalized intersections were selected as the study area and the delay reductions of roundabout operation were estimated by VISSIM microscopic simulation tool. The control delay for boksu intersection reduced from 28.6 seconds to 4.4 seconds and the KRIBB intersection sharply reduced from 156.4 seconds to 23.6 seconds. In addition, carbon dioxide for two intersections reduced to 646.5 ton/year if the intersection is changed to roundabout. Future research tasks include testing the experiment for networks, as well as for various intersection types.

A Personalized Music Recommendation System with a Time-weighted Clustering (시간 가중치와 가변형 K-means 기법을 이용한 개인화된 음악 추천 시스템)

  • Recently, personalized-adaptive services became the center of interest in the world. However the services about music are not widely diffused out. That is because the analyzing of music information is more difficult than analyzing of text information. In this paper, we propose a music recommendation system which provides personalized services. The system keeps a user's listening list and analyzes it to select pieces of music similar to the user's preference. For analysis, the system extracts properties from the sound wave of music and the time when the user listens to music. Based on the properties, a piece of music is mapped into a point in the property space and the time is converted into the weight of the point. At this time, if we select and analyze the group which is selected by user frequently, we can understand user's taste. However, it is not easy to predict how many groups are formed. To solve this problem, we apply the K-means clustering algorithm to the weighted points. We modified the K-means algorithm so that the number of clusters is dynamically changed. This manner limits a diameter so that we can apply this algorithm effectively when we know the range of data. By this algorithm we can find the center of each group and recommend the similar music with the group. We also consider the time when music is released. When recommending, the system selects pieces of music which is close to and released contemporarily with the user's preference. We perform experiments with one hundred pieces of music. The result shows that our proposed algorithm is effective.

  • The damage caused by Recent frequently occurring locality torrential rains is increasing rapidly. In case of densely populated metropolitan area, casualties and property damage is a serious due to landslides and debris flows and floods. Therefore, the importance of predictions about the torrential is increasing. Precipitation characteristic of the bad weather in Korea is divided into typhoons and torrential rains. This seems to vary depending on the duration and area. Rainfall is difficult to predict because regional precipitation is large volatility and nonlinear. In this paper, Very short-term precipitation forecasting pattern model is implemented using KLAPS data used by Korea Meteorological Administration. we designed very short term precipitation forecasting pattern model using GA-based RBFNNs. the structural and parametric values such as the number of Inputs, polynomial type,number of fcm cluster, and fuzzification coefficient are optimized by GA optimization algorithm.

Development of an Actuated Traffic Signal Control Strategy to Minimize Dilemma Zone (딜레마 구간 최소화를 위한 감응식 신호제어전략의 개발)

  • Most of the traffic accidents are a rear-end collision and a clash generated in the signalized intersection on the local roads. So, it is demanded that the high-quality of signal control and dilemma zone control. According to the cases generated by foreign countries, we established the strategies which are composed of Volume-Density Control, strategy of the dilemma zone control using R-detector (microwave detector) In Japan and EC-DC Control. MOEs(Measure of effectiveness) are car numbers in the dilemma zone , max-out probability in the safe side and the average stopping delay in the progress side. We choose a signalized intersection in rural highway to analyze the effect of the strategies and practiced an on-the-spot survey. The result of the survey is applied to the basic data in the simulator. Consequently, strategy of the dilemma zone control using R-detector(microwave detector) in Japan is the best effective in the safe side and EC-DC control is the best in the progress side. Based on the result, we developed the effective strategy of the signal control . This strategy is composed of the strategy of Japan and the detector on the stopping line used in the EC-DC control. On the result of the analysis, new strategy is the best effective in two sides.

A Study on the Criteria Establishment for One-way road using AHP (AHP분석을 활용한 일방통행 선정기준 정립에 관한 연구)

  • Standards suitable for local conditions on deciding one-way road are desperately required to solve traffic congestions at the backside roads in the old downtown areas which were not designated as a road by urban planning. Therefore, this study intends to re-establish a standard to decide one-way road which is regarded to be of the greatest effect among traffic system control methods in order to control one-way road system more efficiently. Also, this paper suggests a standard for such decision to improve efficiency of using backside roads and expand designation of one-way road. AHP (analytic hierarchy process) was carried out among the traffic experts to find out the factors to decide one-way road system. Its result reveals that importance of causing accident to walking quantity and traffic was high. 10,000 cases out of all the possible scenarios of accident by combining detailed evaluation items and scales were extracted to draw the outcomes of analyzing the scenarios, which were schematized in a graph. As a result, division by three sections of point of inflection was verified into $1{\leq}$ section A<1.91, 1.9$1{\leq}$ section B<2.08, and $2.08{\leq}$ section C<3. In other words, priority of deciding one-way road should be given to section C, the highest total point, while posterior to section A, where relatively low points are distributed. The standard on deciding one-way road suggested in this paper may be used for designating one-way road and basic data to re-establish the relevant system in the future.

A Study on the Signal Control Unit's Reconstitution to Control the Separated Through/Left(or Right) Turn and the Median Bus Lane Signal for the Standard Traffic Signal Controller (표준규격 교통신호제어기에서 교통류별 전용신호 구현방안 연구)

  • According to the change of the traffic conditions, the requirement of controlling the separated left(or right) turn, the median bus lane and bicycle signal is increasing. However, the traffic signal controller standard based on the four-set lights restricts to control the three-set lights which control the separated direction and kind of traffics. This study suggests the method to control the three-set lights signal by improving the hardware and software for the traffic signal controller which is operated currently in the traffic scene. The 6 output ports of Load Signal Unit(LSU) which is consisted of Pedestrian Red, Pedestrian Green, Red, Yellow, Arrow and Green signal reconstitute 2 rows of the Red, Yellow, Green for three-set lights while the Signal Map data's code values which control the signal step of an individual Ring and LSU are established to adjust the LSU's output ports(R1 Y1 G1 R2 Y2 G2) of the three-set lights. The effect of using the separated through/left turn and the median lane bus signal of three-set lights is analyzed from a Mangwoo intersection in Seoul. The results of analysis show that the delay time of the east-west direction where the median bus lane is operated is especially improved with over 70 sec/veh.

Traffic Congestion Estimation by Adopting Recurrent Neural Network (순환인공신경망(RNN)을 이용한 대도시 도심부 교통혼잡 예측)

  • Traffic congestion cost is increasing annually. Specifically congestion caused by the CDB traffic contains more than a half of the total congestion cost. Recent advancement in the field of Big Data, AI paved the way to industry revolution 4.0. And, these new technologies creates tremendous changes in the traffic information dissemination. Eventually, accurate and timely traffic information will give a positive impact on decreasing traffic congestion cost. This study, therefore, focused on developing both recurrent and non-recurrent congestion prediction models on urban roads by adopting Recurrent Neural Network(RNN), a tribe in machine learning. Two hidden layers with scaled conjugate gradient backpropagation algorithm were selected, and tested. Result of the analysis driven the authors to 25 meaningful links out of 33 total links that have appropriate mean square errors. Authors concluded that RNN model is a feasible model to predict congestion.
