  • In shipbuilding industry, welding position are usually flat and vertical position at the erection stage. Application of SAW and EGW for these positions makes it possible to achieve enhanced productivity and high quality. But owing to their large size and weight it is difficult to apply these techniques in short and narrow regions. To overcome this problem, our company developed light weight and compact size 4-axis welding carriage which perform 3D weaving. The purpose of this study is to explain the development and application of intelligent welding carriage using 3D weaving pattern that can fill a large amount of welds and thereby making it possible to achieve high quality of welding. This study shows 3D weaving pattern, development of weaving database, and skill of adaptive control response for the variable gap. Also, it shows the results of procedure qualification test for the AH-grade steel when applied to the intelligent welding carriage.

  • Fuzzy random variables with piecewise linear membership functions are introduced from a practical viewpoint. The estimation of the expected values of these fuzzy random variables is also discussed and statistical application is denonstratied by using a real data set.

  • Proposed in this paper is an intelligent management system for evaluating science research projects based on fuzzy neural networks with genetic algorithms. This system was planned, designed and tested employing theories and approaches of software engineering. This system was then applied to evaluate science research projects of the Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province, People’s Republic of China. The outcome / results shows the feasibility and validity of the system and its possible application to other intelligent management systems.

  • Intelligent Content is defined as detailed information or fragment of content which contains a semantic data structure. This semantic structure makes possible to do various intelligent operations.   • In this work, we propose a new framework of robot control for a variety of applications to our unstructured everyday environments. Programming robots can be a very time-consuming process and seems almost impossible for ordinary end users. To cope with this, this work is to provide a software framework for building robot application programs automatically, where we have robots learn how to accomplish a commanded task from the object. An integrated sensing and computing tag is embedded into every single object in the environment. In the robot controller, only the basic software libraries for low-level robot motion control are provided from the robot manufacturer. The main contributions of this work is to develop a server platform that we call Omniscient Server that generates the application programs and send them to the robot controller through the network. The object-related information from the object server merges into robot control software to generate a detailed application program based on the task commands from the human. We have built a test bed and demonstrated that a robot can perform a common household task within the proposed framework.

  • There have been continued effects to develop various types of chemical sensors according to the demands in many application fields such as safety, pollution, environment, medical engineering and food industries etc. In this review, the author intended to cover the general aspects of chemical sensors, including the history of the development, the classification, the sensing properties, and the types and application examples. And the future outlook of the chemical sensor technology, focusing on the advanced materials, high technology fusion, miniaturized intelligent system and ubiquitous sensor networks etc., has been described.

  • This paper is concerned with applicability of intelligent PID controller which is proposed by Fliss and Join recently. First, we analyze the stability regions of intelligent PID control systems when parameter α is varying, and propose a new method to determine the suitable range of α by using the roots locus. Second, the simulation study of magneto-rheological (MR) damper to the structural vibrations due to earthquakes is presented to verify the effectiveness of the intelligent PID control method.

  • This paper describes simulation of navigating a sailboat around obstacles to a goal as quickly and safely as possible. Navigation strategies using concepts from fuzzy control are compared with more conventional ones through application at the levels of choosing an optimal heading and steering the sailboat towards that heading.
