  • Voice revenues are critical to service providers today as they still make up 60% of revenues. Voice is certainly dominant, but the growth is flat. Wireless & data traffic are increasing, resulting in the need for integrating different networks into a unified platform for network efficiency, cost savings and additional revenue opportunities.

  • A method for acquiring an environmental map by integrating distance data obtained by sonars of a moving robot with web interface is proposed. Sonar data contains outliers in some cases such as ultrasonic beam is projected onto a corner of an object. Therefore, the influence of the outliers should be reduced by detecting outliers. In our method, the outliers are detected by two ways: (i) a method considering geometrical .elation among the observed surface and the projected ultrasonic beau, and (ii) a method considering consistency with data obtained by other sonars. By measurement by the sonar, the distance from the sonar to the obstacle is obtained. Assuming the two dimensional space we can know that the inside of the sector, whose renter coincide with the sonar and whose radius is equal to the obtained distance, is the free area, and a part of the arc of this sector is the obstacle area. The generation of the environmental map is done by integrating the free area and the obstacle area obtained by each measurement by the sonars. Before the integration, the outliers detection is done by two ways mentioned above. Experimental results show that obtained maps obtained by our methods with outliers defection are much better than those by a method without outliers detection.

  • Several metrics have been reported in the literature to assess stereo image quality, mostly based on visual attention or human visual sensitivity based distortion prediction with the help of disparity information, which do not consider the combined aspects of human visual processing. In this paper, visual attention and depth assisted stereo image quality assessment model (VAD-SIQAM) is devised that consists of three main components, i.e., stereo attention predictor (SAP), depth variation (DV), and stereo distortion predictor (SDP). Visual attention is modeled based on entropy and inverse contrast to detect regions or objects of interest/attention. Depth variation is fused into the attention probability to account for the amount of changed depth in distorted stereo images. Finally, the stereo distortion predictor is designed by integrating distortion probability, which is based on low-level human visual system (HVS), responses into actual attention probabilities. The results show that regions of attention are detected among the visually significant distortions in the stereo image pair. Drawbacks of human visual sensitivity based picture quality metrics are alleviated by integrating visual attention and depth information. We also show that positive correlation with ground-truth attention and depth maps are increased by up to 0.949 and 0.936 in terms of the Pearson and the Spearman correlation coefficients, respectively.

  • Photogrammetry is a current method of GIS data acquisition. However, as a matter of fact, a large manpower and expenditure for making detailed 3D spatial information is required especially in urban areas where various buildings exist. There are no photogrammetric systems which can automate a process of spatial information acquisition completely. On the other hand, LiDAR has high potential of automating 3D spatial data acquisition because it can directly measure 3D coordinates of objects, but it is rather difficult to recognize the object with only LiDAR data, for its low resolution at this moment. With this background, we believe that it is very advantageous to integrate LiDAR data and stereo CCD images for more efficient and automated acquisition of the 3D spatial data with higher resolution. In this research, the automatic urban object recognition methodology was proposed by integrating ultra highresolution stereo images and LiDAR data. Moreover, a method to enable more reliable and detailed stereo matching method for CCD images was examined by using LiDAR data as an initial 3D data to determine the search range and to detect possibility of occlusions. Finally, intellectual DSMs, which were identified urban features with high resolution, were generated with high speed processing.

  • This paper provides a model for aligning business and information technology strategies. The model, expanded from the earlier study by Henderson and Venkatraman, is composed of four elements: business strategy, business infrastructure, information technology strategy, and information technology infrastructure, and suggests different ways of aligning business and information technology strategies. Basically, there are three types of aligning: integrating, domain based aligning, business reengineering. The validity of the model is supported by case studies.

  • The advances in electronic medical records (EMRs) and bioinformatics (BI) represent two significant trends in healthcare. The widespread adoption of EMR systems and the completion of the Human Genome Project developed the technologies for data acquisition, analysis, and visualization in two different domains. The massive amount of data from both clinical and biology domains is expected to provide personalized, preventive, and predictive healthcare services in the near future. The integrated use of EMR and BI data needs to consider four key informatics areas: data modeling, analytics, standardization, and privacy. Bioclinical data warehouses integrating heterogeneous patient-related clinical or omics data should be considered. The representative standardization effort by the Clinical Bioinformatics Ontology (CBO) aims to provide uniquely identified concepts to include molecular pathology terminologies. Since individual genome data are easily used to predict current and future health status, different safeguards to ensure confidentiality should be considered. In this paper, we focused on the informatics aspects of integrating the EMR community and BI community by identifying opportunities, challenges, and approaches to provide the best possible care service for our patients and the population.

  • Semantically similar XML documents in the same application domain might often conform to different schemas. To uniformly view and query such XML documents, we need an efficient method of integrating XML schemas. This paper proposes a sophisticated method for integrating XML schemas in the same application domain. To compute mapping relationships between schemas, the proposed method utilizes various relationships, such as synonyms and hypernyms, between lexical items based on dictionaries and domain ontologies. Particularly, the relationships between lexical items are elaborated by taking their structural information into account. In addition, this paper proposes a more accurate method for integrating compositors. Experimental results with schemas in various application domains show that the utilization of domain ontologies and the structural relationships between lexical items enhance the precision and recall of integrated schemas.

  • This study is intended to compare the effectiveness of the neural network inductive learning model with a vector space model in information retrieval. As a result, searches responding to incomplete queries in the neural network inductive learning model produced a higher precision and recall as compared with searches responding to complete queries in the vector space model. The results show that the hybrid methodology of integrating an inductive learning technique with the neural network model can help solve information retrieval problems that are the results of inconsistent indexing and incomplete queries--problems that have plagued information retrieval effectiveness.
