  • KIER has been running a demonstration project for 10kWe solar thermal power generation. the project is to build and operate the first solar thermal power generation system in Korea. For concentrating solar thermal energy $40m^2$ dish type concentrator was adapted and a stirling engine is going to be integrated to the system for power production. At the moment building the dish concentrator including mirror and sun tracking system was completed and it's performance are being closely evaluated. This paper will introduce some detailed designs and construction procedures which we have experienced so far.

  • This paper introduces an enhanced condition monitoring and diagnosis system recently developed for rotating machinery. In the system, the data aquisition/monitoring signal processing, machine condition classifier, case-based reasoning and demonstration modules are effectively integrated with user-friendliness so that machine operators can easily monitor and diagnose the status of rotating machinery in operation. Some of the new features include the directional spectrum, case-based reasoning and neural network techniques. And the demonstrator modules for fault diagnosis of a Bear driving system and for basic understanding of the rotor dynamics are provided to help the potential users better understand the system.

  • Solar cell converts sunlight into the electricity that one of the most versatile forms of energy. It has been developed and applied on residental electric power system by urbanized countries as a alternative energy source to overcome energy problem after oil shock. This paper summarizes the results of these efforts by offering a snapshot of the configuration of photovoltaic in residential applications. The status of PV system components and inter -connection and safety equipment will be summarized. Hence this paper discusses only points that might be useful for application.

  • Based on the real-time monitoring by remote sensing and dynamic management by GIS on agricultural land and water resources in arid area, we solved the practicability and popularization of small-scale spatial information service system. Through demonstration, the standards of spatial information service database of agricultural land and water resources is set up, and the agricultural land and water resources management system in Shehezi City of Xinjiang Autonomy is established, which provides periodically the spatial information services needed by agricultural production to support for sustainable development in arid area.

  • In this paper, we propose waste collection vehicle system with a safety device for worker safety and an autonomous driving function. The steering system is applied as MDPS (Motor Drive Power Steering) system to control the waste collection vehicle of the internal combustion engine. Safety-related errors is prevented through redundancy brake of the integrated system and the control braking system. In order to ensure safety between workers and waste collection vehicles, work guidelines and safety devices for emergency stop in case of danger are applied to vehicles. In addition, this research is conducted on improving the working efficiency through vehicle condition monitoring system and a short-range control system for field test. This research is aimed to secure stability through demonstration and contribute to the industrialization of unmanned waste collection vehicles.

  • The purpose of this paper is to verify and validate the maintenance tasks of the construction of a nuclear facility using a digital mock-up and simulation technology instead of a physical mock-up. Prior to the construction of a nuclear facility, a remote simulator that provides the opportunity to produce a complete digital mock-up of the PRIDE (Pyroprocess Integrated Inactive DEmonstration Facility) region and its remote handling equipment, including operations and maintenance procedures has been developed. In this paper, the system architecture and graphic user interface of a remote simulator that coincides with the extraordinary nature of a nuclear fuel cycle facility is introduced. In order to analyze the remote accessibility of a remote manipulator, virtual prototyping that was performed it by using haptic device of external input devices under a 3D full-scale digital mock-up is explained.

PERFORMANCE OF SMALL SCALE LIVESTOCK/CROP DEMONSTRATION-CUM-TRAINING FARMS IN SRI LANKA

  • Three livestock/crop demonstration-cum-training farms have been established on plots of half, one and two acres, typical of the "Kandyan Forest Garden System" Vegetables, bananas, pepper, coffee, coconut and fruit trees are widely spaced, for intercropping with grass, and have been surrounded with live fences that also provide fodder for livestock to increase the family income. Each unit is operated by a selected employee and his family under a monthly incentive scheme based upon the gross margin. On these farms the technical parameters in dairying are better than elsewhere in the Mid-Country. Economic performance over 1985-1992 showed that dairying contributed most to the total gross margin of the half, one and two acre units, i.e. 31, 63 and 69%, respectively. Next came crops (29%, 37% and 19%), poultry (22%, 0% and 9%), and goats (18%, 0% and 3%). In the three farms the cash income per Sri Lankan Rupee spent was 1.5, 4.6 and 2.1, respectively. The overall ratio was 3.2 for dairying, 1.1 for poultry, 4.5 for goats and 9.9 for crops. Actual family labour in the three farms was 548, 548 and 639 days, compared to the 270, 330 and 440 days anticipated in the initial feasibility study. The average incentive payments, which were 20% (half acre), 61% (one acre) and 133% (two acres) of the parastatal salary of the employee, were only insufficient for the extra labour applied in the half acre unit. Dairying and goats proved to be attractive cash earners with a domestic fuel were important benefits. Poultry did little to improve farm income.

Development of Safeguards System for Advanced Spent Fuel Conditioning Process

  • Advanced Spent Fuel Conditioning Process (ACP) is a pyrochemical process in which the spent fuel of PWR is transformed into the uranic metal ingot. Through this process, which has been developed in KAERI since 1998, the radioactivity, the radiotoxicity, the heat and the volume of the PWR spent fuel are reduced by a quarter of the original. To demonstrate a lab-scale process and extract the data for the later pilot-scale process, a demonstration facility of ACP (ACPF) is under construction and the lab-scale demonstration is slated for 2006. To establish the safeguardability of ACPF, a safeguards system including a neutron counter based on non-destructive assay, which is named as ACP Safeguards Neutron Counter (ASNC), the ACP Safeguards Surveillance System (ASSS) which consists of two neutron monitors and five IAEA cameras, and Laser Induced Breakdown System (LIBS) have been developed and are ready to be installed at ACPF. The target materials of ACP to assay with ASNC are categorized into three types among which the first is the uranic metal ingot, the second is the salt waste and the last is $UO_2$ and $U_{3}O_8$ powders, rod cuts and hulls. The Pu content of process nuclear materials can be accounted with ASNC. The ASSS is integrated in the ACP Intelligent Surveillance Software (AISS) in which the IAEA camera images and background signals at the rear doors of ACPF are displayed. The composition of special nuclear materials of ACP can be measured with LIBS which can be a supporting measurement tool for ASNC. The conceptual picture of safeguards system of ACPF is shown in Fig. 1.

실물옵션을 활용한 한국형 300 MW급 IGCC 실증플랜트 기술개발사업의 경제성 분석 (Economic Evaluation for Korea Type of 300 MW IGCC Demonstration Plant Technology Development Project)

  • 본 연구는 지구온난화와 에너지 위기의 시대에 청정 석탄 이용기술로 부각되고 있는 석탄가스화 복합발전의 경제성을 분석한 것으로 실물옵션을 활용하여 한국형 300 MW급 IGCC 실증플랜트 기술개발사업의 가치를 평가하였다. 실물옵션 가치평가법 중의 하나인 이항옵션 모형을 활용하였고, 연료비 불확실성을 고려하여 평가하였다. 분석 결과, 현금흐름할인법을 이용하여 경제성 평가를 했을 때보다 더 높은 투자가치가 있음을 확인할 수 있었으며, 사업의 가치가 양의 값을 나타내 현재 추진 중인 이 사업이 경제적으로 타당하다고 판단할 수 있었다. 또한, 경제적 타당성 입증을 통해 후속호기 발전에 긍정적 영향을 주며, CCS와 연계 시에는 더 큰 효과가 있을 것으로 기대된다.

친환경농업 시범마을에 대한 환경영양평가 (Environmental Impact Assessment for Demonstration Villages of Sustainable Agriculture)

  • 1999년부터 2001년까지 3년간 친환경농업 시범마을에 적용되고 있는 INM (Integrated Nutrient Management) and IPM (Integrated Pest Management) 실천에 따른 추진효과를 분석하기 위하여 시범마을로 지정된 옥천과 양평지역의 농가 포장에서 시비량, 양분유실 및 생태계 변화 등을 조사 분석하였다. 3요소 시비량은 토양검정시비로 인하여 농가관행시비와 비교하여 $28.6{\sim}39.4%$ 절감할 수 있었으며, 쌀 수량도 시비량이 비교적 적은 토양검정 시비구에서 $3{\sim}10%$ 증수하였다. 영농기간동안 토양 침투수중 $NO_3-N$ 농도는 농가관행 시비구 2.9 mg/L에 비하여 토양검정 시비구는 1.5 mg/L로 감소하였으며, 시범마을 논으로 유입되는 관개수의 COD, $NH_4-N$, $NO_3-N$ 농도는 각각 15.0, 0.67, 1.39 mg/L, 시범마을 논에서 배출된 용수는 각각 12.4, 0.29, 2.42 mg/L로 감소되는 경향이었다. 처리별 수서곤충, 환형동물, 패류 및 감각류 등의 개체수는 농가관행구 100에 대하여 토양검정 시비구 295, 토양검정과 개량제 혼용구 276, 무비구 90으로 토양검정 시비구에서 많았으며 수서 무척추 동물은 관행농업을 수행하고 있는 지역을 100으로 볼 때 친환경농업마을은 242와 443으로 INM과 IPM을 실천하는 시범마을에서 생물종이 다양하고 그 개체수가 많은 것으로 나타났다. 친환경농업 시범마을 조성 후 작물 추천시비량 준수와 적기 예찰을 통하여 필요이상 사용되는 비료와 농약을 절감하여 생태계의 개선과 토양이 건전화된 것으로 평가되었다.
