  • This paper provides a thorough study on shared segment protection (SSP) for mesh communication networks in the complete routing information scenario, where the integer linear program (ILP) in [1] is extended such that the following two constraints are well addressed: (a) The restoration time constraint for each connection request, and (b) the switching/merging capacity constraint at each node. A novel approach, called SSP algorithm, is developed to reduce the extremely high computation complexity in solving the ILP formulation. Basically, our approach is to derive a good approximation on the parameters in the ILP by referring to the result of solving the corresponding shared path protection (SPP) problem. Thus, the design space can be significantly reduced by eliminating some edges in the graphs. We will show in the simulation that with our approach, the optimality can be achieved in most of the cases. To verify the proposed formulation and investigate the performance impairment in terms of average cost and success rate by the additional two constraints, extensive simulation work has been conducted on three network topologies, in which SPP and shared link protection (SLP) are implemented for comparison. We will demonstrate that the proposed SSP algorithm can effectively and efficiently solve the survivable routing problem with constraints on restoration time and switching/merging capability of each node. The comparison among the three protection types further verifies that SSP can yield significant advantages over SPP and SLP without taking much computation time.

  • A berth assignment problem has a direct impact on assessment of charges made to ships and goods. In this paper, we concerned with of fuzzy mathematical programming models for a berth assignment problem to achieved an efficient berth operation in a fuzzy environment. In this paper, we focus on the berth assignment programming with fuzzy parameters which are based on personal opinions or subjective judgement. From the above point of view, assume that a goal and a constraint are given by fuzzy sets, respectively, which are characterized by membership functions. Let a fuzzy decision be defined as the fuzzy set resulting from the intersection of a goal and constraint. This paper deals with fuzziness in all parameters which are expressed by fuzzy numbers. A fuzzy parameter defined by a fuzzy number means a possibility distribution of the parameters. These fuzzy 0-1 integer programming problems are formulated by fuzzy functions whose concept is also called the extension principle. We deal with a berth assignment problem with triangular fuzzy coefficients and propose a branch and bound algorithm for solving the problem. We suggest three models of berth assignment to minimizing the objective functions such as total port time, total berthing time and maximum berthing time by using a revised Maximum Position Shift(MPS) concept. The berth assignment problem is formulated by min-max and fuzzy 0-1 integer programming. Finally, we gave the numerical solutions of the illustrative examples.

  • In this paper, a procedure using a genetic algorithm (GA) and a heuristic local search (HLS) is proposed for solving facility rearrangement problem (FRP). FRP is a decision problem for stopping/running of facilities and integration of stopped facilities to running facilities to maximize the production capacity of running facilities under the cost constraint. FRP is formulated as an integer programming model for maximizing the total production capacity under the constraint of the total facility operating cost. In the cases of 90 percent of cost constraint and more than 20 facilities, the previous solving method was not effective. To find effective alternatives, this solving procedure using a GA and a HLS is developed. Stopping/running of facilities are searched by GA. The shifting the production operation of stopped facilities into running facilities is searched by HLS, and this local search is executed for one individual in this GA procedure. The effectiveness of the proposed procedure using a GA and HLS is demonstrated by numerical experiment.

  • In Guided Scrambling (GS) encoding for the holographic storage, after scrambling augmented source word into codeword, the best codeword satisfying modulation constraint is determined. Modulation constraints considered in this paper are strength which is the minimum number of transition between '0' and '1' in each row and column of codeword array and the symbol balancedness of codeword array. In this paper, we show that GS encoding procedure can be formulated as an integer programming model and develop a fast neighborhood search heuristic for fast computation of control bits. In the simulation, we compared the performance of heuristic algorithm with the integer programming model for various array and control bit size combinations.

  • In this study, we develop a B & B type algorithm for the concave minimization problem with 0-1 knapsack constraint. Our algorithm reformulates the original problem into the singly linearly constrained concave minimization problem by relaxing 0-1 integer constraint in order to get a lower bound. But this relaxed problem is the concave minimization problem known as NP-hard. Thus the linear function that underestimates the concave objective function over the given domain set is introduced. The introduction of this function bears the following important meanings. Firstly, we can efficiently calculate the lower bound of the optimal object value using the conventional convex optimization methods. Secondly, the above linear function like the concave objective function generates the vertices of the relaxed solution set of the subproblem, which is used to update the upper bound. The fact that the linear underestimating function is uniquely determined over a given simplex enables us to fix underestimating function by considering the simplex containing the relaxed solution set. The initial containing simplex that is the intersection of the linear constraint and the nonnegative orthant is sequentially partitioned into the subsimplices which are related to subproblems.

  • In the paper, a new Constraint algorithm is proposed to solve the fan-in problem occurred in the encoding circuitry of an ADC. The Flash ADC architecture uses a Double-Base Number System(DBNS). The DBNS has been known to represent the Multidimensional Logarithmic Number System (MDLNS) used for implementing the multiplier accumulator architecture of FIR filter in Digital Signal Processing (DSP) applications. The authors use the DBNS with the base 2 and 3 in designing ADC encoder circuits, which is called as Double Base Integer Encoder(DBIE). A symmetric map is analyzed first, and then asymmetric map is followed to provide addition ready DBNS for DSP circuitry. The simulation results of the DBIE circuits in 6-bit and 8-bit ADC show the effectiveness of the Constraint algorithm with $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The DBIE yields faster processing speed compared to the speed of Fat Tree Encoder (FAT) circuits by 17% at more power consumption by 39%.

  • This paper presents a short-term scheduling algorithm for the operation of steelmaking processes. The scope of the problem covers refining of the hot iron transferred form a blast furnace, ladle treatment, continuous casting, hot-rolling, and coiling for the final products that should satisfy the given demand. The processing time at each unit depends on how much the batch amount is treated, and te dedicated intermediate storage with finite capacity between the units is considered. Resource constraints and initial amount of each state are incorporated into the presented scheduling model for the algorithm of on-line scheduling. We propose amixed integer linear programming (MILP) model with two objectives for the scheduling. The first is to maximize the total profit while atisfying the due date constraint for each product. And the second is to minimize the total processing time, makespan, while satisfying the demand for each product. Especially, we observe the effect of penalizing the intermediate storage and the inventory level of the final product on the scheduling results.

  • This research investigates the automatic identification of typical embedded structures in the Integer Programming(IP) models and automatic transformation of the problem to an adequate Lagrangian problem which can provide tight bounds within the acceptable run time. For this purpose, the structural distinctiveness of variables, constants, blocks of terms, and constraint chunks is identified to describe the structure of the IP model. To assist the identification of the structural distinctiveness, the representation by the knowledge based IP model formulator UNIK-IP is adopted. For the reasoning for the structural identification, the bottom-up, top-down, and case-based approaches are proposed. A prototype system UNIK-RELAX is developed to implement the approaches proposed in this research.

  • The ambiguity resolution is an essential task for the precise carrier phase differential GPS. In practice, however, there are still many problems in resolving the ambiguity in kinematic mode, especially in the urban areas. The multipath in received signal, the frequent change in visible satellites, and the cyclic slips make the ambiguity resolution very difficult task in real-time operation. In this paper, we consider a differential positioning with the float ambiguity that is free from the integer constraint. The float ambiguity estimation if carried out by the Kalman filter. The float and fixed ambiguities are combined together to determine the position in real-time kinematic mode.

  • In this paper, with the limited range of ammunition supply point(ASP) at ammunition battalion in specific corps and light automobile battalion(LAB) directly supports its vehicle for ammunition supply, we propose optimal model to minimize transportation time and logistics cost using integer programming(IP) for efficient ammunition resupply allocation during a given operation period of front combat unit. And then, we consider ammunition treatment and supply capacity of ammunition supply point(ASP), constraint elements of transportation ability considering time and cost, ammunition storage capacity of combat unit, combat situation and unit mission to propose this model. Finally, through numerical example, we examine the applicable feasibility of proposed model.
