In this study, the results of applying cold weather concreting mixed with Accelerator for Freeze Protection(AFP) to full scale structures are presented. Since the determination of W/C and amount of AFP significantly have an effect on strength gain and protection of frost damage in early, a full investigation is needed to determine these values at stage of nux design. The flowability of fresh cold weather concreting with AFP was similar to the same W/C. Lower loss of workability and initial slump flow of concrete using superplasticizer of polycarboxylic ester than that of melamine sulphonate showed that polycarboxylic ester was more effective on elapsed time. Temperature histories of specimens located in insulation boxes at the site was similar to that of structures. Thus, it is cleared that simple adiabatic curing method is effective for evaluating in-place concrete strength than specimens cured by sealing method. The investigation results of development of compressive strength of cold weather concreting included AFP with curing methods by logistic curves indicated that AFP can be effective to gain strength at lower temperature than normal curing temperature. In field testing, vinyl sheets were placed over the concrete sections and AFP enabled concrete to gain $5N/{mm}^2$ to protect frost damage in early ages and specified compressive strength of concrete at 28 days under average temperature of $-2^{\circ}C$ (lowest temperature was $-12^{\circ}C$) during site application.

Concrete exposed to severely low temperature below $-20^{\circ}C$ should be provided with proper heat supplying curing to protect the concrete from early frost damage at the time of pouring.meanwhile, so far, effective heat curingmethods of the concrete under severely low temperature are not well established in Korea. For this reason, the objective of this paper is to provide effective heat curingmethod of concrete exposed to severely low temperature to protect early frost damage by varying the combination of heat curingmaterial combinations. Temperature history, maturity development and core strength results are investigated. Fourmock-up specimens simulating slab, wall and column were prepared and heat insulation, heat supplying and both were applied. Test results indicate that the combination of quadruple layer bubble sheet(4BS) and embedding of heating cable has desirable performance for a slab, and heat supplying curing inside heat enclosure and heat generationmat also shows desirable performance for a wall, and for a column, use of EPS heat insulation has proper performance against early frost damage, which reaches $45^{\circ}D{\cdot}D$ and helps the concretemaintain above $0^{\circ}C$ within 3 days. Themethodsmentioned above are believed to be optimum protection from early frost damage of the concrete under $-20^{\circ}C$.

The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of the application of double layered bubble sheet on the curing of slab and wall concrete placed at the job site in cold weather and to offer a feasibility of Concrete IoT Management System(CIMS), which is wireless sensor network developed by the authors, to manage early age quality of the concrete in terms of temperature, maturity and strength development. Test results indicated that the application of bubble sheet enhances the insulation performance, which results in an increase of the temperature by around 1~20. 6℃. It is found that CIMS can gather the temperature, maturity and strength development data from the sensors embedded from 30 m far from CIMS successfully. Predicted compressive strengths by CIMS had good agreement with measured ones within 2 MPa error level until 7 days. It is thought that the combination of the bubble sheet application for cold weather protection and CIMS for quality management tool in cold weather concreting contributes to shorten the time for the form removal by one day.
In order to determine the variability of environmental characteristics of lightweight air-foamed soil using marine clay according to freezing-thawing and soaking conditions, unconfined compressive strength of the lightweight air-foamed soil samples made by changing the amount of cement under curing conditions of outdoor low temperature, underground or indoor wetting were observed. Compressive strength was not increased under freezing-thawing (temperature range of $-9.1^{\circ}C{\sim}17.2^{\circ}C$) regardless of the amount of cement but the more cement using, it was increased rapidly by underground curing conditions within 30 cm beneath ground level. Therefore, it is necessary to install insulation layer cutting off exterior cold air after construction of lightweight air-foamed soil in condition of freezing-thawing. Bulk density was increased too small under the long-time soaking condition, it tended to decrease rapidly when samples were dried up and had below 6% of water contents. But variability of compressive strength and bulk density was very small for preventing drying and keeping its wet state. The lightweight air-foamed soil that installed beneath ground water level or covered by soil can be evaluated as a long-term reliable construction material.
Poly(ester-imide)(PEI) for the electrical insulation coating was synthesized and evaluated with one-step method as well as two-step method. For the synthesis of poly(ester-imide), imide repeat unit of N,N'-(4,4'-diphenylmethane) bistrimellitimide(DID) was initially made from trimellitic anhydride(TMA) and methylene dianiline(MDA), followed by the second stage reaction of esterification. One-step reaction was performed by reaction of TMA, MDA, dimethyl terephthalate(DMT), ethylene glycol(EG), and 1,3,5-tris-(2-hydroxy ethyl) isocyanurate(THEIC) in m-cresol solvent at a time. The synthesized poly(ester-imide) was cured with xylene, P-5030K(phenol-formaldehyde resin), TK-8(TDI type blocked polyisocyanate) and tetrapropyltitanate(TPT). It was found that the content of hydroxyl group, amount of DMT, and imide repeat unit played important role for the properties of electrical insulation coating film.

The cure kinetics of a neat epoxy system and epoxy/silica composite were investigated by DSC analysis. A cycloaliphatic type epoxy resin was diglycidyl 1,2-cyclohexanedicarboxylate and curing agent was anhydride type. To estimate kinetic parameters, the Kissinger equation was used. The activation energy of the neat epoxy system was 88.9 kJ/mol and pre-exponential factor was 2.64×1012 min−1, while the activation energy and pre-exponential factor for epoxy/silica composite were 97.4 kJ/mol and 9.21×1012 min−1, respectively. These values showed that the silica particles have effects on the cure kinetics of the neat epoxy matrix.

Class-F and B resin-rich type insulating tapes are generally used for the ground wall insulations of respective air-cooled and water-cooled stator windings in larger turbine generators. In this paper, their electrical properties coupled with aging times in higher temperature than designed one in normal condition were experimentally investigated and the results of two comparative tests were presented on the existing class-F resin-rich type tape and a developed one after curing. The resin-rich tapes currently used arc composed of six and a half 3-layer sheets that arc structured with mica paper, the top and bottom supports of it respectively, and the epoxy resin to bind them tightly. The results for breakdown voltage and strength on the cured specimens were presented, which were composed of the unaged, the aged accelerated for one, two, and three thousand hours at 180 $^{\circ}C$. The surface and volume resistivities on them were measured and the results are also presented to make a comparative test for the initial electrical characteristics.

Class-F resin-rich type insulating tapes are generally used for the groundwall insulations of the large turbine generators with air-cooled and hydrogen-cooled stator windings. In this paper, mechanical strength properties degraded over aging time in higher temperature than designed one in normal condition were experimentally investigated and the results of comparative tests were presented on the existing class-F resin-rich type tape and a developed one after curing. The resin-rich insulating tapes with composite material of Mica/Epoxy/support currently were used in this test. The tests for tensile and flexural strength properties were conducted with the specimens which were composed of unaged and the aged specimens accelerated for one, two, and three thousand hours at 180 $^{\circ}C$. The tensional strength was only measured for the unaged specimens and the results are also presented to make a comparative test for their initial mechanical characteristics.

The effect of reactive diluents on the ac electrical treeing in epoxy/nanosilicate systems was studied, in a needle-plate electrode geometry. Diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) type epoxy was used as a base resin, and layered silicate was used as a nano-sized filler. Polyglycol (PG) or 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDGE) was introduced as a reactive diluent to the DGEBA/nanosilicate system, in order to decrease the viscosity of the nanocomposite system. PG acted as a flexibilizer, and BDGE acted as a chain extender, after the curing reaction. To measure the treeing propagation rate, a constant alternating current (ac) of 10 kV/4.2 mm (60 Hz) was applied to the specimen, in a needle-plate electrode arrangement, at $30^{\circ}C$ of insulating oil bath. When 10 kV/4.2 mm (60 Hz) was applied, the treeing propagate rate in the DGEBA system was $1.10{\times}10^{-3}$ mm/min, and that in the DGEBA/PG system was $1.05{\times}10^{-3}$ mm/min. As 1.5 wt% of nanosilicate was added to the DGEGA/PG system, the propagation rate was $0.33{\times}10^{-3}$ mm/min. This meant that the nano-sized layered silicates would act as good barriers to treeing propagation. The effect of chlorine content was also studied, and it was found that chlorine had a bad effect on the electrical insulation property of the epoxy system.
Geopolymers have many advantages over Portland cement, including energy efficiency, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, high strength at early age and improved thermal resistance. Alkali activated geopolymers made from waste materials such as fly ash or blast furnace slag are particularly advantageous because of their environmental sustainability and low cost. However, their durability and functionality remain subjects for further study. Geopolymer materials can be used in various applications such as fire and heat resistant fiber composites, sealants, concretes, ceramics, etc., depending on the chemical composition of the source materials and the activators. In this study, we investigated the thermal properties and microstructure of fly ash and blast furnace slag based geopolymers in order to develop eco-friendly construction materials with excellent energy efficiency, sound insulation properties and good heat resistance. With different curing times, specimens of various compositions were investigated in terms of compressive strength, X-ray diffraction, thermal property and microstructure. In addition, we investigated changes in X-ray diffraction and microstructure for geopolymers exposed to $1,000^{\circ}C$ heat.
