송전 XLPE 케이블 절연층을 이용한 전기트리 형성과 부분방전 양상의 상관관계 (A study on the correlation between the PD pattern and the formation of electrical trees by use of XLPE insulation for the underground power transmission cable)

  • In this work, PD patterns and electrical trees are observed by use of the XLPE cable insulation. and the tree initiation voltage related to the contamination are also measured in order to calculate the electric stress necessary for the design of cable insulation. Throughout these works, correlation between the PD pattern and the shape of electrical tree has been observed that there may exist three distinct pattern of PD dependence on the stage of tree propagation, Such correlation could bring a basic information in connection with the partial discharge of cable system. It was also found that the electrical stress necessary for the initiation of electrical tree was measured to the 290kV/mm for the 154kV XLPE cables manufactured in KOREA.

  • DAPAS (Development of Advanced Power system by Applied Superconductivity technologies) program that the, superconductivity national program has been started one of the 21C frontier programs from 2001 in Korea. The 3rd phase of DAPAS program was started at April 2007, and the ultimate goal of HTS cable project is to develop 154kV, 1GVA class HTS cable. The structure of 154kV, 1GVA HTS cable is single core with cold dielectric insulation. The cable core consists of the former, conduction layer, electrical insulation layer, shielding layer. The cable cryostat consists of two corrugated seamless aluminum tubes as its high sealing reliability, the tubes separated through a spacer arrangement. Outdoor termination was developed by LS cable and cryogenic system by CVE for 154kV, 1GVA class HTS cable. The 154kV, 1GVA HTS cable will be installed and be tested in KEPCO Gochang Testing Center from June 2010.

  • Epoxy Compound has been used as insulation material in cable accessories. During the applying voltage to cable, heat shock is induced to accessory by the temperature difference between atmosphere and conductor. In this study, crack resistance, thermal and mechanical properties were evaluated about conventional epoxy compound and rubber toughened epoxy compound. Because rubber absorbs the stress caused by heat shock, crack resistance of rubber toughened epoxy compound is high. In the case of low thermal expansion coefficient, the compound shows high crack resistance because of low volumetric change.

  • Silicone insulators have many advantages over porcelain insulators. Especially silicone insulators have good characteristics of impact hardness, surface insulation, ease of processing, mass productivity and don't have risk of bombardment and vandalism. Recently insulation part made by silicone are becoming widely used. In this paper we introduce the development of Sealing End for 132kV XLPE cable with silicone composite hollow insulator and the adoption of it to a actual transmission line in abroad. This paper contains of design procedure, structure, electrical performance of it.

  • To realize the high-Tc superconducting (HTS) DC cable system, it is important to study not only high current capacity and low loss of conductor but also optimum electrical insulation at cryogenic temperature. A model HTS DC cable system consists of a HTS conductor, semi-conductor, cooling system and insulating materials. Polypropylene laminated paper (PPLP) has been widely adopted as insulating material for HTS machines. However, the fundamental insulation characteristics of PPLP for the development of HTS DC cable have not been revealed satisfactorily until now. In this paper, we will discuss mainly on the breakdown characteristics of 3 sheets PPLP in liquid nitrogen ($LN_2$). The characteristics of the diameter, location of butt-gap, distance between butt-gap length, pressure effect, polarity effect under DC and impulse voltage were studied. Also, the DC polarity reversal breakdown voltage of mini-model cable was measured in $LN_2$ under 0.4 MPa.

  • Recently, on power system, it is used to high voltage of transmission and distribution due to safe power supply and have high quality and insulation in order to satisfy excellent insulator. Thus, according to underground of high voltage cable, is occurred break down by ground short. Therefore, it is used to high quality XLPE power cable to interrupt instantaneous voltage drop. If it appear inner defect for cable whose have high quality and insulation, it is reduced rapidly due to concentration of electrical field. After assemble to manufacture, in order to inspect cable condition, it is decided much inspection standard. In this paper, In inner defect of assembling cable at manufacture, for measure the variation of insulation condition by void. it tested the variation of insulating characteristics, using $\phi$-q-n distribution variation in partial discharge experiment.

  • For investigation of electrical properties of XLPE cable termination, we prepared a thermal contraction type kit and 6.6kV XLPE cable. The cable termination that have simulated defect by badness construction have been manufactured and their insulation characteristics such as ac and impulse withstand test have been measured. The influence of defects such as thickness decrease and heating time have been studied. When thickness decreased 1mm, the decreased of AC breakdown voltage value is not very distinctive. However, when thickness decreased 2mm, the insulation AC breakdown voltage value was very low down to 43kV. When approved heat for 300s than 60s, AC Breakdown voltage value appeared high. And also, after insulation breakdown took place, the sample was observed before and after disassembly, and the insulation breakdown hole was observed by means of optical microscope.

  • In order to improve the reliability of XLPE cables, it is necessary to understand the mechanism of electrical and water tree degradation. Especially, electrical tree initiation and propagation are important in XLPE cable insulation. This paper deals with the changes of electrical properties of XLPE cable insulation with electrical tree degradation. To understand the electrical properties of XLPE insulation, specimens were prepared by 22.9kV distribution cable and made in a type of block. Ogura needles having tip radius of 10${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ were inserted into each block pieces. AC voltages of 8kV, 10kV and 12kV at 60Hz were applied to needle. We investigated the relationship between electrical properties(PD quantity, tan$\delta$ and DC current) and the growth of electrical tree. The electrical properties of the specimens were measured from initiation of tree to breakdown and their characteristics were analyzed.

  • Diagnosis of cable insulation degradation has important meaning from a viewpoint of reliability enhancement of CV cable systems. So, we diagnosed 3.3kV & 6.6kV CV distribution cable on live-line which is judged to a most poor installation condition because they have been used in water condition after installation at the Yeochon chemical complex. The paper describes the analysis of the measured data, the problems at diagnosis, and the items which are considered at the development of diagnosis technology and equipment hearafter.

  • The partial pischarge(PP) process in synthetic laminated paper insulation was studied at cryogenic condition using different types of the test samples(flat and tube type). The influence of semiconducting carbon paper was also evaluated by studying the electrical properties of superconducting cable.
