  • In this paper, to investigate the influence of installation damage, a variety of full-scale field installation tests with 15 geosynthetics reinforcements and fill materials of various grain size distribution have been performed. The full-scale field installation test was conducted with reference to the FHWA (2009) guidelines. The tensile strength tests were performed by sampling up to 20 specimens randomly from the excavated geosynthetics reinforcements after compaction of fill material, and the degree of decrease in tensile strength of reinforcements due to compaction was analyzed based on the experiment results. It was found that the degree of tensile strength reduction of geosynthetics reinforcements due to the compaction of fill material is greatly influenced by the type of reinforcement and the maximum diameter of fill material. In addition, it was found that the strength reduction ratio of PET geogrid (PVC coating) with relatively small stiffness was greatest, and that the larger the maximum grain size of the fill material, the greater the strength reduction ratio. And also, a more reasonable evaluation method for the installation damage reduction factor of geosynthetics reinforcements is proposed based on the results of full-scale field installation tests in present study and the existing test results.

  • Though development of reinforced earth wall is on the rise recently, safety verification for various methods remains behind which has caused the problems including collapse after installation. This study aims to evaluate the field applicability of the shape of flexible strip reinforcement according to pullout resistance test and field damage test. The test specimens were 3 shape of reinforcement, the typical flexible band reinforcement, developed luged band reinforcement, and band type reinforcement made by cutting geogrid. It was found that reinforcement of type have strengths and weaknesses, respectively. The best type of flexible strip reinforcements can be selected, if the conditions are considered with the installation conditions of the reinforcing earth retaining wall and the particle size of the backfill materials.

  • Installation damage of 3 types of geogrids were evaluated with compaction condition. This experimental test was in accordance with ENV ISO 10722-1. Tensile strength of geogrids were decreased with number of cyclic compaction loading without regard to kind of filled material and it was seen that strength decrease tendency showed the dependence on geogrid type. Woven and warp-knitted type geogrids showed the bigger decrease of tensile strength than welded type geogrids.

  • In this study, the long-term performance tests, which have extensibility, creep deformation, installation resistance and durability characteristic, is conducted to apply geosynthetic strip in field. The strength reduction factors using the test results are evaluated in order to calculate long-term design tensile strength. First, the creep deformation was evaluated by both the stepped isothermal method(SIM) and the time-temperature superposition(TTS) method. The creep reduction factor is reasonable to apply 1.6. Second, the result of installation damage test had little damage of yarn, which affected strength of reinforcement. Therefore, it can be analyzed that the installation damage of geosynthetic strip has little effect of long-term design tensile strength. Finally, the durability reduction factor considering chemical, biological and outdoor exposure resistance is reasonable to apply 1.1, which is considered the stability and economic efficiency of reinforced earth wall using geosynthetic strip.

  • Total reduction factor that is used when calculating allowable tensile strength of geogrids is made by multiplying the installation damage reduction factor ($RF_{ID}$), chemical degradation reduction factor ($RF_D$), and creep reduction factor ($RF_{CR}$) etc. In case of a model estimating allowable tensile strength considering reduction factor over the short-term tensile strength of geogrids, it has a limit of not considering interaction force between reduction factors. Junction strength comes to be reduced by installation damages or chemical degradation in the same way as tensile strength. Single junction test method cannot properly test damaged samples and shows large deviations as it does not consider scale effect. Besides, regarding calculating shear strength, no reasonable study on reduction factors was conducted yet. Therefore, in this study, reduction factors that may affect the long-term performance of geogrids were revaluated considering various conditions and accurate long-term allowable tensile strength was calculated considering interrelation between reduction factors. Creep results after installation damage and chemical resistance test showed lower value than calculated value according to GRI GG-4. After the installation damage test and the chemical resistance test, the reduction factor of junction strength was less than that of tensile strength. Shear strength before and after installation damage showed no change or increase.

  • In recent the superior economic benefits and the convenience of installation increased the use of geosynthetics, especially geogrids with the effects of high tensile strength. In this study, various tests were conducted to determine the physical and chemical properties of geogrids which contains durability under various critical conditions, creep behavior and the stability for installation damage in fields. With analysis of test results, the partial and total safety factors were determined and presented the long term design strength of flexible geogrids.

  • The assessment of the condition of a transformer winding which is suspected of having suffered short circuit damage can be difficult. Conventional test such as winding resistance, magnetisation current or insulation resistance will only detect damage if a permanent electrical fault exists. Visual inspection of windings necessitates the removal of oil and in many cases only a very small proportion of the winding can be seen. We describe the characteristics. As the front rise time of recurrent-surge generator pulse less than 1000ns and the peak value of pulse is about 500V, we have the good results of detecting winding deformation in the LVI test of transformers.

  • The overvoltage generated by the lightning strokes has been doing considerable damage to the distribution network as well as the consumer facility until now. Because most of the lightning strokes are accompanied by a storm, the aftermath of damage to the consumer is so serious. Therefore it is very important to survey the optimal operation plan by the field test of distribution lightning facilities. In this paper we have accomplished the field test to verify the impulse characteristic of Secondary Arrester(SA), and analyzed the effect of the SA in power distribution system.

  • According to the high accuracy of semiconductor equipments, PCB substrate with much thin thickness is required. However, it is very difficult to sustain the PCB substrate without deformation in case of horizontal installation, due to low bending stiffness. In this research, new PCB process equipment with vertical installation has been developed in order to solve the problem of PCB substrate damage during etching process. As the main parts of etching system on PCB substrate, PCB substrate and JIG are analyzed through finite element method and experimental test. Through the analysis results of stress state, we could find the optimal JIG design to make the damage as low as possible.

  • Installation damage of 3 types of geogrids was evaluated with compaction condition by laboratory tester. This experimental was in accordance with ENV ISO 10722-1. First, soil distribution and water content were conducted. And then we changed cyclic loading time and type of geogrids as a factor of installation damage. The samples are woven, warp-knitted, welded type of 6, 8, 10T. This study aims to give an insight into the relationships between installation damage and cyclic loading time. The result of studies was that strength of the damaged geogrids can be closely correlated with the time of loading cycles. Especially, welded type shows slower slope than two types of geogrids due to coating materials. That means welded type is coated with PP (Polypropylene), but the other two types of geogrids are coated with PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride). To confirm another factor different method was performed. The size of soil was used between 9.5 mm and 23.5 m to compare initial experimental. Cyclic loading compaction is taken 200 times before installation test and the reason is that the reduction factor of this case by installation damage was higher than other compaction loading conditions.
