  • Performance characteristics of subscale diffuser for high-altitude simulation have been numerically investigated. The length of diffuser entrance with respect to nozzle exit diameter was changed to 0, 50, 100%, respectively. In addition, flow characteristics have been studied for various length to diameter ratio of secondary throat diffuser. As a result, the shape of plume was contracted for insufficient length of diffuser entrance. Also, if the length to diameter ratio of secondary throat diffuser were less than 7 or 8, mach disk has been formed inside the diffuser.

  • This study measured the velocity of magnetic particles inside the power generation using external heat sources. Single Plane Illumination Microscopy (SPIM) was used to measure magnetic particles that are simultaneously affected by bubbly flow and magnetic field. It has the advantage of reducing errors due to particle superposition by illuminating the thin light sheet. The hydraulic diameter of the power generation is 3mm. Its surface is covered with a coil with a diameter of 0.3 mm. The average diameter of a magnetic particle is 200nm. The excitation and emission wavelengths are 530 and 650nm, respectively. In order to find out the flow characteristics, a total of four velocity fields were calculated in wide and narrow gap air bubbles, between the wall and the air bubble and just below the air bubble. Magnetic particles showed up to 8.59% velocity reduction in the wide gap between air bubbles due to external magnetic field.

  • This paper presents experimental results for the confining characteristics of cylinder with center-hole and spiral reinforcements. The experiments have been conducted for the specimens with primary variables i.e., spiral reinforcement ratio and diameter of center-hole which affect the compressive strength and stress-strain relationship. Through this research, it was found that the compressive strength and ductility were increased with the ratio of spiral reinforcement because the lateral expansion of the concrete inside the spiral was restrained by the spiral, but dependent on the size of center-hole.

  • The circular pipe was developed using polymer mortar. Pipe (inside diameter=170 mm and length=1,000 mm was made to evaluate structural performance. The average failure load for the pipes which were reduced its thickness by 41% was 2,000 kg which was higher than that of conventional concrete pipe of the same size. Reinforcement using glass fiber fabric highly increased the failure load, up to 9,500 kg.

  • Natural convection heat transfer rates in vertical pipes were measured varying the diameter, length, and roughness of vertical cylinder. To achieve high Rayleigh number with relatively small test rig, mass transfer experiments instead of heat transfer were performed based on the analogy. Prandtl number was 2,014. The length of vertical cylinder was 0.1m, 0.3m, and 0.5m, which correspond to GrL $4.2{\times}10^7$, $1.1{\times}10^9$, and $5.5{\times}10^9$. To each length of vertical cylinder, the heat transfer rates were measured varying the iameter 0.005m, 0.01m, and 0.03m. The heat transfer rate for a short length pipe(0.1m) agreed with the prediction from Le Fevre correlation developed for a vertical plate for all diameter. The heat transfer rate decreases as the diameter and the length of the pipe increases. The heat transfer rate inside of vertical cylinder is affected by roughness only for a laminar flow regime.

  • This study carried out to analize quality in the evaluation based on the grades such as raw ginseng and red ginseng between Korean (Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer) and American ginseng (Panax quinquefolium L). American ginseng was small in root length, root diameter and root weight and emergence many secondary root from rhizome and main root. Therefore body form was bad compared with Korean ginseng. As for yield of dry, Korean ginseng was 30.4 % and American ginseng was 33.8% but as for yield, Korean ginseng was 80.4% and American ginseng was 72.2%. There were as many Korean ginseng in raw ginseng first grade by about twice compared with American ginseng. However there were many American ginseng in second grade. On the other hand, Korean ginseng producted high Chunsam compared with American ginseng. The cause of decreasing quality was inside cavity and inside white in Korean and American ginseng. Especially, the inside white occurrence about 3 times compared with inside cavity in American ginseng. In the case of distribution of weight size, Korean ginseng was much above 20Ji but American ginseng was much under 20Ji.

  • Model tests in calibration chamber with open -ended steel pipe pile have been performed in sand deposit to clarify effect of soil plug on bearing capacity, load transfer mechanisms in soil plug, and behavior of soil plug under dynamic and static conditions. Model piles were devised so that bearing capacity of open -ended pile could be measured separately into outside skin friction, inside skin friction due to soil plug -pile interaction and end bearing force on the section of steel pipe pile. It may be concluded, form the test results, that the plugging level of open -ended pile is more correctily defined by specific recovery ratio, y, rather than by plug length ratio, PLR, and the major part of inside skin friction is generated within the range of three times as long as the inner diameter of the pile from the pile tip. The ratio of inside skin friction to total bearing capacity is much larger than that of outside skin friction to total bearing capacity. Therefore, the bearing capacity of pile could not be well predicted, unless the inside skin friction is properly taken into account.

  • Photovoltaic thermal (PVT) collectors are devices that simultaneously produce electricity and heat. Research on conventional air-type PVT collector focuses on installing baffles to enhance the collector's thermal performance. However, the baffles have pressure drop inside the collector which degrades the thermal performance. Thus, it is necessary to design baffles to smoothen the flow inside the air-type PVT collector. Alternatively, installing perforated baffles in air-type PVT collectors can reduce the collector weight, but parameters such as the diameter of the perforated holes and the height of the perforated plates should be considered. Therefore, the main aim of this study was to analyze thermal characteristics of each variable of perforated baffles installed inside air-type PVT collector. For this purpose, the uniformity of air flow in the collector was compared through NX program, and the resultant heat gain and thermal efficiency of the air-type PVT collector were compared and analyzed. Therefore, the main aim of this study was to analyze thermal characteristics of each variable (Baffle angle, length, height, pitch, perforated ratio) of perforated baffles installed inside air-type PVT collector. For this purpose, the uniformity of air flow in the collector was compared through CFD program, and the resultant heat gain and thermal efficiency of the air-type PVT collector were compared and analyzed. As a result, the maximum outlet temperature was increased by 1.45 times and the heat gain was increased by 193.8 Wth, depending on the perforated baffle plate, compared to the collector without the baffle. The heat transfer performance showed that the maximum internal velocity was 1.61 times higher and the Reynolds number was 1.06 times higher depending on the parameters of the baffle plate.
