  • The effects of ZnS insertion on the characteristics of CaS:Pb phosphor were investigated. The intensity of photoluminescence of ZnS inserted CaS:Pb excited by 347nm were increased while that excited by 254nm was unchanged, compared to those of CaS:Pb thin film. The electroluminescent display having ZnS inserted CaS:Pb showed lower threshold voltage and higher efficiency than those of CaS:Pb ELD device.

  • A double cantilever sandwich-beam method has been applied to the evaluation of the frequency dependence of dynamic elastic modulus and material loss factor of EPDM rubbers. The flexural vibration of a double cantilever sandwich-beam specimen with an inserted rubber layer was studied using a finite element simulation in combination with the sine-sweep test. Effects of the rubber layer length on the dynamic characteristics were also investigated: reliable values were measured when the length of the inserted rubber layer was larger than and equal to 50% of the effective specimen length. The values were compared with those obtained by the dynamic mechanical analysis and the simple resonant test. Relationships of the dynamic characteristics of rubbers with frequency could be determined using the least square error method.

  • The process by which Agrobacterium tumefaciens genetically transforms plants involves a complex series of reactions communicated between the pathogen and the plants. To identify plant factors involved in agrobacterium-mediated plant transformation, a large number of T-DNA inserted Arabidopsis thaliana mutant lines were investigated for susceptibility to Agrobacterium infection by using an in vitro root inoculation assay. Based on the phenotype of tumorigenesis, twelve T-DNA inserted Arabidopsis mutants(rat) that were resistant to Agrobacterium transformation were found. Three mutants, rat1, rat3, and rat4 were characterized in detail. They showed low transient GUS activity and very low stable transformation efficiency compared to the wild-type plant. The resistance phenotype of rat1 and rats resulted from decreased attachment of Agrobacterium tumefaciens to inoculated root explants. They may be deficient in plant actors that are necessary for bacterial attachment to plant cells. The disrupted genes in rat1, rat3, and rat4 mutants were coding a arabinogalactan protein, a likely cell wall protein and a cellulose synthase-like protein, respectively.

  • One of the most significant problems in the processing of composite materials is residual stress. The high residual stress may cause cracking in the matrix without external loads and degrade the integrity of composite structures. In this study, thermo-viscoelastic residual stresses occurred in an aluminum liner-inserted polymer composite cylinder are investigated. This type of the structure is used for rocket fuselage due to the convenience to attach payloads and equipment to the metal liner by machining. The time and degree of cure dependent thermo-viscoelastic constitutive equations are developed and coupled with a thermo-chemical process model. These equations are solved with the finite element method to predict the residual stresses in the composite cylinder and also in the interface between the liner and the composite during cure.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the dynamic behavior of turbo pump unit. The acceptable separate margin of 1st critical speed was obtained by the use of elastic-ring inserted ball bearing, while the poor separate margin of 1$\^$st/ critical speed was appeared in the case without the elastic-ring. In addition, the results show that the stiffness and damping of plain seals gain more separate margin of 2nd critical speed. However the wear or the failure of seals could reduce the 2$\^$nd/ critical speeds near the operating speed.

  • For the most part of machine design, assembly drawing isaffected byits inserted parts. When a part is inserted in assembly, alreadyd stablished parting line is modified for reasonable representation. for example, break or trim fuction between the lines gives more recognizable drqwing. Most of parts is composed of such that point, line, arc, circle and block. If the part is composed of block, it is very difficult to operate because its attribution is unknown before exploding, but, It is very easy to operate except block. In this paper, it is required that basic feature recognition rules are caused by knowledge-based. This system which shows a good modify tool using AutoCAD system and ADS (Autocad Development System).

  • Average torque of PMa-SynRM(Permanent Magnet-assisted Synchronous Reluctance Motor) is changed by magnet form inserted to the barrier. Because the magnet structure inserted to the barrier influences to the magnet-torque and reluctance torque. Therefore, this paper present a suitable permanent magnet form design for maximum torque when the magnet quantites are always fixed. And each motor characteristic such as average torque, torque ripple, cogging torque and back-EMF are analyzed by FEM(Finite Element Method) for optimal design.

  • This paper addresses a feature-based robust watermarking scheme for digital images using a local invariant features of SURF (Speeded-Up Robust Feature) descriptor. In general, the feature invariance is exploited to achieve robustness in watermarking schemes, but the leakage of information about hidden watermarks from publicly known locations and sizes of features are not considered carefully in security perspective. We propose embedding and detection methods where the watermark is bound with circular areas and inserted into extracted circular feature regions. These methods enhance the robustness since the circular watermark is inserted into the selected non-overlapping feature regions instead of entire image contents. The evaluation results for repeatability measures of SURF descriptor and robustness measures present the proposed scheme can tolerate various attacks, including signal processing and geometric distortions.

  • The flexural vibration characteristics of a sandwich beam system with a partially inserted viscoelastic layer were quantitatively studied using the finite element analysis in combination with the sine-sweep experiment. Asymmetric mode shapes of the flexural vibration were visualized by holographic interferometry, which agreed with those obtained by the finite element simulation. Effects of the length and the thickness of the partial viscoelastic layer on the system loss factor (η$\_$s/) and resonant frequency (f$\_$r/) were significantly large for both the symmetric and asymmetric modes of the beam system.

  • A combustion project was completed regarding the development of a high-flow-rate purge burner in cooperation with three city gas companies(Pusan, Taegu, Samchulli). The project, started in May 1991, aimed at purging the line-packed-gas safely and quickly before getting into gas pipe working or relocation. According to the results, the purging noise is less than 80dB due to silencer screen. multi-nozzle and outlet inserted tube employed. In addition, the developed burner shows an increased work efficiency of 40-50% more as compared to the performance of conventional purge equipments. The project result is regarded as the first high-flow-rate purge burner developed within Korea. contributing to shortening purge hours, safe field work and easiness of purge site selection.
