PM2.5 concentration in Seoul could be predicted by deep neural network model. In this paper, the contribution of input factors to the model's prediction results is analyzed using the LRP(Layer-wise Relevance Propagation) technique. LRP analysis is performed by dividing the input data by time and PM concentration, respectively. As a result of the analysis by time, the contribution of the measurement factors is high in the forecast for the day, and those of the forecast factors are high in the forecast for the tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. In the case of the PM concentration analysis, the contribution of the weather factors is high in the low-concentration pattern, and that of the air quality factors is high in the high-concentration pattern. In addition, the date and the temperature factors contribute significantly regardless of time and concentration.

A simple microwave backscattering model for vegetation canopies on earth surfaces is developed in this study. A natural earth surface is modeled as a two-layer structure comprising a vegetation layer and a ground layer. This scattering model includes various scattering mechanisms up to the first-order multiple scattering( double-bounce scattering). Radar backscatter from ground surface has been modeled by the polarimetric semi-empirical model (PSEM), while the backscatter from the vegetation layer modeled by the vector radiative transfer model. The vegetation layer is modeled by random distribution of mixed scattering particles, such as leaves, branches and trunks. The number of input parameters has been minimized to simplify the scattering model. The computation results are compared with the experimental measurements, which were obtained by ground-based scatterometers and NASA/JPL air-borne synthetic aperture radar(SAR) system. It was found that the scattering model agrees well with the experimental data, even though the model used only ten input parameters.
Sphere decoding (SD) for multiple-input and multiple-output systems is a well-recognized approach for achieving near-maximum likelihood performance with reduced complexity. SD is a tree search process, whereby a large number of nodes can be searched in an effort to find an estimation of a transmitted symbol vector. In this paper, a simple and generalized approach called layer pruning is proposed to achieve complexity reduction in SD. Pruning a layer from a search process reduces the total number of nodes in a sphere search. The symbols corresponding to the pruned layer are obtained by adopting a QRM-MLD receiver. Simulation results show that the proposed method reduces the number of nodes to be searched for decoding the transmitted symbols by maintaining negligible performance loss. The proposed technique reduces the complexity by 35% to 42% in the low and medium signal-to-noise ratio regime. To demonstrate the potential of our method, we compare the results with another well-known method - namely, probabilistic tree pruning SD.
In this paper, Artificial Neural Network(ANN) is applied to automatic berthing control for a ship. ANN is suitable for a maneuvering such as ship's berthing, because it can describe non-linearity of the system. Multi-layer perceptron which has more than one hidden layer between input layer and output layer is applied to ANN. Using a back-propagation algorithm with teaching data, we trained ANN to get a minimal error between output value and desired one. For the automatic berthing control of a containership, we introduced low speed maneuvering mathematical models. The berthing control with the structure of 8 input layer units in ANN is compared to 6 input layer units. From the simulation results, the berthing conditions are satisfied, even though the berthing paths are different.

In this paper, we propose a multi-layer associative neural network structure suitable for hardware implementaion with the function of performance refinement and improved robutst capability. Unlike other methods which reduce network complexity by putting restrictions on synaptic weithts, we are imposing a requirement of hidden layer neurons for the function. The proposed network has synaptic weights obtainted by Hebbian rule between adjacent layer's memory patterns such as Kosko's BAM. This network can be extended to arbitary multi-layer network trainable with Genetic algorithm for getting hidden layer memory patterns starting with initial random binary patterns. Learning is done to minimize newly defined network error. The newly defined error is composed of the errors at input, hidden, and output layers. After learning, we have bidirectional recall process for performance improvement of the network with one-shot recall. Experimental results carried out on pattern recognition problems demonstrate its performace according to the parameter which represets relative significance of the hidden layer error over the sum of input and output layer errors, show that the proposed model has much better performance than that of Kosko's bidirectional associative memory (BAM), and show the performance increment due to the bidirectionality in recall process.
A fundamental study for developing a fault diagnosis system of a pump is performed by using neural network. Acoustic signals were obtained and converted to frequency domain for normal products and artificially deformed products. The neural network model used in this study was 3-layer type composed of input, hidden, and output layer. The normalized amplitudes at the multiples of real driving frequency were chosen as units of input layer. And the codes of pump malfunctions were selected as units of output layer. Various sets of teach signals made from original data by eliminating some random cases were used in the training. The average errors were approximately proportional to the number of untaught data. Neural network trained by acoustic signals can detect malfunction or diagnose fault of a given machine from the results.

A single-layer Perceptron with 4x4 input neurons and one output neuron is optically implemented. Holo-graphic lenslet arrays are usee for the programmable optical interconnection topology. The hologram is bleached in order to increase the diffraction efficiency. It is shown that the performance of Perceptron depends on the learning rate, the inertia rate, and the correlation of input patterns.
This paper deals with recognizing ten korean voiced vowels using Self Organizing Map. SOM is a good classifier. The output layer is composed of two dimensions. The input vector is the frequency values having the characteristic of voiced vowels. The short time frequency transform is used getting input vector. The final neural networks is attached SOM output layer.
Neural networks have recently attracted considerable attention in the field of classification and other areas. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate an experiment using back-propagation neural network model applied to nursing diagnosis. The network's structure has three layers ; one input layer for representing signs and symptoms and one output layer for nursing diagnosis as well as one hidden layer. The first prototype of a nursing diagnosis system for patients with stomach cancer was developed with 254 nodes for the input layer and 20 nodes for the output layer of 20 nursing diagnoses, by utilizing learning data set collected from 118 patients with stomach cancer. It showed a hitting ratio of .93 when the model was developed with 20,000 times of learning, 6 nodes of hidden layer, 0.5 of momentum and 0.5 of learning coefficient. The system was primarily designed to be an aid in the clinical reasoning process. It was intended to simplify the use of nursing diagnoses for clinical practitioners. In order to validate the developed model, a set of test data from 20 patients with stomach cancer was applied to the diagnosis system. The data for 17 patients were concurrent with the result produced from the nursing diagnosis system which shows the hitting ratio of 85%. Future research is needed to develop a system with more nursing diagnoses and an evaluation process, and to expand the system to be applicable to other groups of patients.
Recently, the increasing importance of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has led to its increased use in various fields in the shipbuilding and marine industries. For example, typical scenarios for AI include production management, analyses of ships on a voyage, and motion prediction. Therefore, this study was conducted to predict a response amplitude operator (RAO) through AI technology. It used a neural network based on one of the types of AI methods. The data used in the neural network consisted of the properties of the vessel and RAO values, based on simulating the in-house code. The learning model consisted of an input layer, hidden layer, and output layer. The input layer comprised eight neurons, the hidden layer comprised the variables, and the output layer comprised 20 neurons. The RAO predicted with the neural network and an RAO created with the in-house code were compared. The accuracy was assessed and reviewed based on the root mean square error (RMSE), standard deviation (SD), random number change, correlation coefficient, and scatter plot. Finally, the optimal model was selected, and the conclusion was drawn. The ultimate goals of this study were to reduce the difficulty in the modeling work required to obtain the RAO, to reduce the difficulty in using commercial tools, and to enable an assessment of the stability of medium/small vessels in waves.
