Poly(anthranilic acid) Microspheres: Synthesis, Characterization and their Electrocatalytic Properties

  • Poly(anthranilic acid) was synthesized by rapid mixing method using 5-sulphosalicylic acid as a dopant. The synthesized polymer was characterized by various techniques like FT-IR, UV-Visible, and X-ray diffraction $etc.$, The FT-IR studies reveal that the 5-sulphosalicylic acid is well doped within the polymer. The morphological property was characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopic technique. The electrochemical properties of the polymer were studied by cyclic voltammetric method. The synthesized polymer was used to modify glassy carbon electrode (GCE) and the modified electrode was found to exhibit electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation of uric acid (UA).

Efficient Transdermal Penetration and Improved Stability of L-Ascorbic Acid Encapsulated in an Inorganic Nanocapsule

  • Encapsulation of L-ascorbic acid (vitamin C) within a bio-compatible layered inorganic material was achieved by coprecipitation reaction, in which the layered inorganic lattice and its intercalate of vitamin C are simultaneously formed. The nano-meter sized powders of vitamin C intercalate thus prepared was again encapsulated with silica nano-sol to form a nanoporous shell structure. This ternary nanohybrid of vitamin Clayered inorganic core-$SiO_2$ shell exhibited an enhanced storage stability and a sustained releasing of vitamin C. Furthermore, the nano-encapsulation of vitamin C with inorganic mineral was very helpful in delivering vitamin C molecules into skin through stratum corneum, facilitating transdermal penetration of vitamin C in topical application.

무기산류에 대한 국내 작업환경측정 현황 분석 (Analysis of Exposure Levels for Inorganic Acids in Korea)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to analyze the exposure characteristics of inorganic acids. Methods: We analyzed exposure data (n = 363,146) for six inorganic acids (hydrogen fluoride, hydrogen bromide, hydrogen chloride, phosphoric acid, nitric acid, and sulfuric acid) collected between 2017 and 2019 in South Korea. Measurement characteristics and exposure levels (ELs) were analyzed by inorganic acid, industry category, enterprise size, and measurement year. Results: Measurement percentage dominated in time-weighted average (TWA, 91%) compared to short term exposure limit (STEL) and Ceiling. Most of the measurements (79.7%) were collected from the manufacturing category of industry. Medians of ELs were mostly low (≤3% of the threshold limit), with the exception of sulfuric acid (4.6% of TWA and 10.5% of STEL). The percentages of exceeding 1% of the occupational exposure limits (OELs) in TWA were relatively high for sulfuric acid (35.8%) and hydrogen chloride (16.5%) compared to the other acids (4.2%-6.6%). In addition, the percentages of exceeding 1% of OELs in STEL or Ceiling were higher for sulfuric acid (22.9%), hydrogen chloride (12.3%), and nitric acid (8.2%) compared to the other acids (1.2%-1.9%). The small-sized enterprises showed higher ELs in TWA; contrarily, the large-sized enterprises had higher ELs in STEL or Ceiling. Conclusions: The measurement characteristics and ELs identified in this study could be useful for establishing safety and health policies for inorganic acids.

고내산성 무기바인더의 내황산성에 관한 기초적 특성 연구 (A Fundamental Study on Sulfate Resistance of Inorganic Binder with High Acid Resistance)

  • This study analyzed sulfate resistance of strongly acid-resistant inorganic binder based on industrial byproducts. According to the study experiment, compared to OPC mixture, the mixture of high acid-resistant inorganic binder had excellent chemical resistance against 10% H2SO4 solution. In the case of ordinary portland cement, its sample with 28 days of immersion had severe corrosion on its mortar erosion part, and thus external appearance was damaged greatly, and compression strength decreased by around 57% and more.

  • Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) molecule has been successfully encapsulated in biocompatible inorganic matrix in order for the cosmetic application such as superfacial fine line reduction. The encapsulation was realized through chemical reaction involving simultaneous formation of inorganic lattice and 1M giving rise to an 1M-inorganic nanohybrid (IAA-brid) which shows excellent storage stability and sustained releasing property of indole-3-acetic acid. The clinical efficacy of essence cream containing IAA-brid as anti-wrinkle formulation was also carefully evaluated by measuring the roughness of the skin replica before and after treatment. Upon administration of the cream on the eye-area, the fine-line is drastically reduced.

유류/중금속 복합오염토양 정화를 위한 다단 토양세척 효율평가 (Performance Evaluation of the Multistage Soil Washing Efficiency for Remediation of Mixed-contaminated Soil with Oil and Heavy Metals)

  • In typical remediation practices, separate washing systems have to be applied to clean up the soils contaminated with both oil and heavy metals. In this study, we evaluated the efficiency of successive two-stage soil washing in removal of mixed-contaminants from soil matrix. Two-stage soil washing experiments were conducted using different combinations of chemical agent: 1) persulfate oxidation, followed by organic acid washing, and 2) Fenton oxidation, followed by inorganic acid washing. Persulfate oxidation-organic acid washing efficiently removed both organic and inorganic contaminants to meet the regulatory soil quality standard. The average removal rates of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH), Cu, Pb, and Zn were 88.9%, 82.2%, 77.5%, and 66.3% respectively, (S/L 1:10, reaction time 1 h, persulfate 0.5 M, persulfate:activator 3:1, citric acid 2 M). Fenton oxidation-inorganic acid washing also gave satisfactory performances to give 89%, 80.9%, 87.1%, and 67.7% removal of TPH, Cu, Pb, and Zn, respectively (S/L 1:10, reaction time 1 hr, hydrogen peroxide 0.3 M, hydrogen peroxide:activator 5:1, inorganic acid 1 M).

Intercalation of Functional Organic Molecules with Pharmaceutical, Cosmeceutical and Nutraceutical Functions into Layered Double Hydroxides and Zinc Basic Salts

  • Negatively charged functional organic molecules such as retinoic acid, ascorbic acid, indole acetic acid, citric acid, salicylic acid, acidic dye (indigo carmine, Food Blue 1) are intercalatively encapsulated by zinc basic salt (hydrozincite) and layered double hydroxide. Such functional organic-inorganic nanohybrids are realized via coprecipitation reaction involving simultaneous formation of layered inorganic lattice and intercalation of anionic species. The heterostructural nature of these nanohybrids, their particle morphology and textural characterizations are mainly discussed on the basis of Powder X-ray Diffraction and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy results.

고탁도 원수대응 침지식 멤브레인 여과에서 공기폭기 및 용액조성에 따른 파울링 및 처리효율 관찰 (Observations of Treatment Efficiency and Fouling in Submerged Membrane Filtration Treating High-Turbidity Source Water)

  • 무기실리카 입자로 구성된 고탁도 원수를 처리하는 침지식 정밀여과 운전에서 휴민산과 2가 양이온의 존재유무에 따라 시간에 따른 파울링 저항을 관찰하였다. 공기폭기로 인한 무기실리카 입자의 파울링 감소효과는 휴민산과 칼슘이 혼합으로 존재 시 감소하였다. 파울링층의 전자현미경 관찰결과 칼슘의 존재 시 휴민산의 무기실리카 입자 표면흡착이 관찰되었다. 이는 멤브레인 표면에 조밀한 파울링층을 형성시켜 공기폭기 효과를 감소시킨 것으로 판단된다. 용액의 조성에 따른 고탁도 원수의 탁도 제거율에는 큰 변화가 없었으나 공기폭기량에 따라 칼슘과 무기실리카 입자의 혼합 존재 시 유기물질의 제거율은 80% 이상으로 증가하였다. 이는 공기폭기 하에 무기실리카 입자 표면에 흡착된 일부 휴민산들이 멤브레인 표면으로부터 함께 역수송 되어 유기물질 제거율을 증가시킨 것으로 사료된다.

유/무기산 혼합용출제를 이용한 중금속(카드뮴,구리)오염토양 처리공법(soil washing/flushing) 개선에 대한 연구 (Improving Soil Washing/flushing Process using a Mixture of Organic/inorganic Extractant for Remediation of Cadmium (Cd) and Copper (Cu) Contaminated Soil)

  • 토양 세척/세정(soil washing/flushing)기법을 적용하여 카드뮴과 구리로 오염된 토양을 처리하기 위해 최적의 유기산 및 무기산 용출제 선정 실험을 batch 및 column test를 통하여 수행하였다. 널리 알려진 EDTA와 비교한 Citric acid는 저분자 유기산 용출제로 구리와 카드뮴의 제거효율이 EDTA를 제외한 다른 유기산 용출제에 비해 처리효율이 높았으며, 탄산은 독성이 가장 낮으면서 토양공극효과를 동시에 수반할 수 있는 무기산 용출제로 확인되었다. 최적의 유/무기산 혼합용출제는 citric acid와 탄산의 혼합 용출제였으며, 최적 농도비는 citric aicd:탄산 = 10:1이었다. 이때의 카드뮴과 구리의 제거효율은 각각 46%와 39%이였다. 탄산은 공극 막힘 현상을 완화시키는 역할으 하는 것으로 확인되었으며, 이는 EDTA + 탄산과 citric acid+탄산에서 용출제의 유량이 점차 증가하는 것을 확인하였따. 따라서, 유/무기산 혼합 용출제는 카드뮴 및 구리로 오염된 토양 처리를 위한 세정 복원기법의 실제현상 적용 시 발생하는 토양공극 막힘 연상을 개선시켜 줄 수 있다.
