For some Korean newsprint mill, addition level of aluminum sulfate has been reduced because sulfur from aluminum sulfate has detrimental effect on the efficiency of anaerobic water treatment. At this moment, an unexpected decrease in sizing degree of TMP mixed newspaper was occurred. The phenomena means that hydrophobic substance usually originated from TMP cannot be fixed on the paper. This study focused on effect of alum and PAC on sizing of paper and contamination. Also, substitutability of PAC was discussed as a possible alternatives of aluminum sulfate under anaerobic condition of water treatment. Evaluation of sizing degree and pitch deposit potential were performed at the varied addition level of PAC and aluminum sulfate. Hydrophobic substance mainly derived from TMP could be fixed on the surface of fiber by PAC. Fines retention was not changed by replacing aluminum sulfate with PAC. Additionally, fixing of hydrophobic substance without excessive agglomeration can be enhanced by PAC with low molecular weight. Consequently, sizing degree of newspaper and contamination of recycling process of ONP can be controlled by low molecular weighted PAC.

The bone graft materials are grossly divided into autogenous bone, allogenic bone, xenogenic bone, and alloplastic material. Among the various allogenic graft materials, hydroxyapatite($Ca_{10}(PO_4)_6(OH)_2$, HA), the main inorganic phase of human hard tissue, is widely used as a repair material for bones. When HA applied to bony defect, however, it may be encapsulated with fibrous tissue and floated in the implanted area by the lack of consolidation. Fluoridated hydroxyapatite($Ca_{10}(PO_4)_6(OH)_2$, FHA), where F- partially replaces the OH- in the hydroxyapatite, is considered as an alternative material for bone repair due to its solubility and biocompatibility. This study was designed to find out the bone healing capacity of FHA newly produced as a nanoscale fiber in the laboratory. We implanted HA and FHA in the rabbit cranium defect and histologically analysed the specimen. The results were as follows. 1. In the 4 weeks, fibrous connective tissue and little bone formation around materials of the experimental group I implanted HA were observed. In the experimental group II implanted FHA, newly formed bone around materials were observed. 2. In the 8 weeks, the amount of newly formed and matured bone of the experimental group II was more than the experimental group I and control group. From the results obtained, we suggest that FHA, newly synthesized, is relatively favorable bone substitute with bioconpatibility and has better bone healing capacity than pure HA.
The phenomenon of the shrinkage of silk fibers induced by inorganic salts including LiBr, $Ca(NO_3){_2}$, and $CaCl_2$, has been studied up to the present as one of the finishing methods of silk. It is expected that the shrinkage phenomenon may greatly contribute to the realization of the high sensibility of silk fibers. Especially the shrinkage enables the expression of three-dimensional appearance of silk fabrics along with the improvements in dimensional stability, resilience in stretching, and comfort. Numerous theoretical studies on the contraction phenomenon by $Ca(NO_3){_2}$ have been conducted so far. These studies have focused mostly on the silk fibers. It is difficult to find studies on silk fabrics. The negative aspects of the finishing are such as strength drop, yellowish discoloration, and fiber damage. These should also be considered as well as the positive aspects. In this study, the phenomenon of salt shrinkage is diversely reviewed by applying $Ca(NO_3){_2}$ solution for the silk fabrics as objects. The changes in the air permeability, thickness, and color were investigated with focus on the shrinkage of the silk fabrics according to the changes in treatment conditions. Some findings from this study are as follows: Within short period of time at the initiation of salt shrinkage, the salt shrinkage proceeds effectively. In the case of concentration of 47.4%, or 46.3% of $Ca(NO_3){_2}$ solution, appropriate treatment time seems to be 20seconds, or $2{\sim}8$minutes, respectively. Excessive shrinkage is obtained when lower liquor ratio is adopted. As a result, the condition is acting extremely disadvantageously against the thickness and yellow discoloration aspects.

Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) methods are conventional analytical methods to analyze water quality. Both of these methods are technically indirect measurement methods, require complicated preconditions, and are time-consuming. On the other hand, the total organic carbon (TOC) method is a direct and fast measurement method which is more intuitive and accurate than the BOD and COD methods. However, general TOC analysis methods involve complicated processes and high power consumption owing to the process of phase transition from liquid to gas by a high-temperature heater. Furthermore, periodic consumables are also required for the removal of inorganic carbon (IC). Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is one of the most suitable photocatalysts for simple processes. Its usage involves low power consumption because it only reacts with the organic carbon (OC) without the requirement of any other reagents and extra processes. We investigated a TiO2 photocatalyst-based TOC analysis for simple and affordable products. TiO2-coated fiber substrate maintained under carbon included water was exposed to ultraviolet (UV) radiation of wavelength 365 nm. This method is suitable for the real-time monitoring of water pollution because of its fast reaction time. Its linear property is also sufficient to match the real value.
This experiment was conducted to investigate effects of application of diluted and undiluted cattle slurry with water on seasonal and annual dry matter yields and feed values of tall fescue in the uncultivated rice paddy and it was compared with chemical fertilizer. Annual dry matter yields for diluted (average 6.43 ton DM/ha) and undiluted (average 6.56 ton DM/ha) cattle slurry were significantly higher (p<0.05) than those of no fertilizer (3.82 ton DM/ha). This trend was much more conspicuous in treatments applied in spring. In chemical fertilizer treatments, fertilizers with P and K (6.12 ton DM/ha), and P, K and N (10.13 ton DM/ha) had significantly (p<0.05) higher dry matter yields compared with no fertilizer. However, annual dry matter yields for treatments of P and K mixture tended to be lower than those of cattle slurry applications. The efficiency of DM production for inorganic nitrogen in chemical fertilizers annually averaged 26.7kg DM/kg N. In terms of cutting frequencies, it was highest in 2nd growth followed by 1st and 3rd growth. On the other hand, efficiencies of annual DM production of nitrogen for diluted and undiluted cattle slurry were 18.3 and 17.4 kg DM/kg N, respectively, especially, highest in 2nd growth. While, efficiencies of DM production for cattle slurry versus for inorganic nitrogen were 68.5 (undiluted) and 65.2% (diluted), respectively. For annual crude protein contents of tall fescue, no fertilization (11.5%) was significantly higher than chemical fertilizer, but that was lower than cattle slurry ($12.4{\sim}12.6%$) diluted with water. on the contrary, no fertilizers had significantly lower NDF (64.1%) and ADF (37.2%) contents than those of any other treatments, but their RFV (87.0) was significantly higher (p<0.05) than other treatments. The application of cattle slurry and their dilution significantly increased yields of crude protein and total digestible nutrients compared with no and/or P and K fertilizers (p<0.05). This trend was more conspicuous in cattle slurry applied in the early spring.
This study has examined the physicochemical properties of the Pleurotus eryngii, including their proximate components, amount mineral content, total dietary fiber, total sugar, reducing sugar and free sugar. Additionally, it measured the P. egii ethanol extracts and the total amounts of polyphenol compounds as well as its electron donating ability (EDA) of the substance fraction (SF). The P. eryngii powder's moisture content was 9.0% and each of the other element content such as carbohydrate, crude protein, crude ash and crude fat was found to be 63.06%, 20.70%, 5.20% and 2.0% respectively. Potassium (K) was shown to be the greatest inorganic content and manganese (Mn) was the lowest. Furthermore fructose, galactose, glucose lactose and maltose free sugar content was found in this order. 387 mg% of the total amounts of polyphenol was found in the P. eryngii whole body ethanol extract, 158 mg% in the stipe extract, 593 mg% in the pileus extract and 607 mg% in the substance fraction (SF). Electron donating ability (EDA) was highest at 91.12% in the whole body extract and lowest at 62.90% in the stipe extract. Additionally, the EDA for substance fraction (SF) 0.02%-0.1% was found to be 57.78-77.33%, which was lower than the 0.02%-tocopherol (93.92%) and BHT (96.72%). From these results, it can be assumed that P. eryngii offers superior antioxidative effects with its high content of fiber, inorganic materials and total amounts of polyphenol as well as high electron donating ability (EDA), thereby making it ideal for use in functional foods and industrial materials.

This study was investigated to estimate optimal conditions and biological oxic denitrification to treat wastewater with low C/N ratio and high strength total inorganic nitrogen (TIN) concentration by using $A_2O$ fixed biofilm system. The lab-scale experimental system packed with media, which were composed of polyvinylidene chloride fiber (oxic basin) and ceramic ball (anaerobic and anoxic basin), was used. This system was operated with various influent alkalinities at the C/N(TOC/TIN) ratio of 0.5. The study results showed that TOC were removed over 96.0% at all operation conditions. The removal efficiencies over 93.5% for $NH_4{^+}-N$ and 81.8% for TIN were obtained at the alkalinity of about 1210mg/L(Run 5). Among the removal of TIN, 64.9% was occurred by biological denitrification at an oxic basin. It was confirmed through mass balance of alkalinity and nitrogen that the amount of alkalinity produced during biological denitrification at oxic basin was 2.49~3.46 mg Alkalinity/mg $NO_2{^-}-N$, ${\Delta}TOC/{\Delta}DEN$ of 0.34 (Run 5) was obtained at an oxic basin, which was less than the theoretical value of 1.22.
Cultural and nutritional conditions for Lyophyllum decastes and its chemical composition in a synthetic medium were investigated. The optimal temperature and pH for the production of mycelium were $25^{\circ}C$ and pH 7.5. The mycelium yield was the highest on 15th day. Among the carbon sources, glucose and CMC were the best for the production of mycelium and their optimal concentrations were 3 and 6%, respectively. As an organic nitrogen, proteose peptone was the best and $(NH_4)_2HPO_4$ as an inorganic nitrogen was good. The optimal concentration of proteose peptone and $(NH_4)_2HPO_4$ were 2 and 0.2%, respectively. The optimal ratio of glucose to proteose peptone for production of mycelium was 10 : 1. Also, the optimal concentrations of $K_2HPO_4$ and $MgSO_4$ were 0.2 and 0.06%, respectively and that of $CaCl_2$ was 0.1%. Among the bioextracts, yeast extract was the most effective and its optimal concentration was 1.5%. In chemical components of the mycelium of Lyophyllum decastes, total sugar, crude protein and crude fat were 34.80, 28.35 and 2.50%, respectively. Its ash was 7.57% and crude fiber 11.99%.

Experiment was conducted to elucidate the effect of various nitrogen fertilizers on the growth and yield of soybean cv. Backwoon in field, and to examine soybeans produced with different nitrogen fertilizers for their nutritional constituents and protein digestibility. Soybean plants were generally similar in growth among fertilizers applied, and plants with non-nitrogen and with ammonium sulfate showed tendency to have fewer internodes. Nodule number and nodule weight also were lower in plants with non-nitrogen and with ammonium sulfate. Nitrogen fixation ability per nodule number were similar at an early growth stage and at flowering stage treatments and were relatively higher with newly developed complex fertilizer at pod elongation stage. With newly developed complex fertilizer and with non-nitrogen, there were slight increase and in 100 grain weight and yield per 10a, respectively. Crude protein contents in soybeans with nitrogen fertilizers were higher than that with non-nitrogen, and the reverse were true for crude fat. Crude ash contents were relatively similar among the treatment. Crude fiber contents were higher with readily used complex fertilizer than with the others. The contents of inorganic constituents were of the same sort among the treatments, that of Fe with non-nitrogen being much lower than with the others. Protein digestibility was the highest in the non-nitrogen treated soybean.

The present study was to develop a dry PFB method similar to the existing gypsum board construction method in order to apply the existing wet PFB method that uses fire.resistant adhesive. It was found that the existing wet method can produce concrete compressive strength of 80MPa and fire resistance of 3 hours with 30mm PF boards. The goal of development in this study was fire resistance of 3 hours through dry construction of 15mm fire resistant boards. The results of fire resistance test showed an increase in thermal durability and thermal strain. It is believed that inorganic fiber reduces thermal strain, and lowers heat insulation performance by 15% or less. This suggests that heat insulation performance was improved by the change in the inner composition of PF board resulting from the adjustment of Al:Si mol ratio, high temperature molding, and dry curing. According to the results of fire resistance test, when the dry PF method was applied, the temperature of the main reinforcing bar was 116$^\circ$C in 15mm, 103.8$^\circ$C in 20mm, and 94$^\circ$C in 25mm, and these results satisfied the current standards for fire resistance control presented by the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs. When a 3 hour fire resistance test was performed and the external properties of the specimen were examined, the outermost gypsum board hardly remained and internal PF board maintained its form without thermal strain.
