This study explores the influence of Taiwan's high-tech manufacturers' innovative strategy and innovation motivation concerning the implementation of innovative activities, as well as the influence of innovative activities implementation on business performance. The two intermediate variables, industry group and enterprise scale are also considered. Through a review of the relevant literature, a theoretical model of the influence relationship is developed, while an empirical analysis is simultaneously conducted on Taiwan's high-tech manufacturers. The research result shows that the internal driving force of innovative activities has a significant impact on the level of implementing technological innovative activities and cultural innovative activities. The external driving force of innovative activities has a significant impact on the level of implementing market innovative activities and management innovative activities. Companies adopting self-developed technology and purchased as well as self-developed technology strategies, perform better than those adopting purchased new technology or those with neither purchased nor self-developed technology strategies, at implementing technological innovative activities and cultural innovative activities. The level of implementing innovative activities has a significant influence on business performance (cost reduction and product/service differentiation). For the intermediate variables of "industry group" and "enterprise scale", it is proven in this study that they have no significant influence on the level of innovative activity implementation or business performance.
In this paper, we tried to find the bottleneck factors of firms' innovative activities using the KIS (Korea Innovation Survey) 2002 data. Employing the method of factor analysis, we identified five bottleneck factors of innovative activities: organizational bottleneck factor, innovative bottleneck factor, economic bottleneck factor, supply-chain bottleneck factor, and market-environment bottleneck factor. Using regression analysis which includes the five bottleneck factors, industry characteristics variables (market concentration, technological opportunity, appropriability), and other control variables, we found (1) that all the five bottleneck factors are negatively related with innovative activities, (2) that technological opportunity and appropriability conditions are positively related with innovative activities, (3) that there is an inverted-U relationship between market concentration and innovative activities, and (4) that firm size has no significant influence on firms' innovative activities.
Using patent and firm-level panel data for 1982-2001, this study investigates spillover effects of patents and the strengthening of intellectual property rights on Productivity and Innovation. As well as we consider the effect of intra-industry spillovers, we extend the effect to inter-industry spillovers which implies the effects of IT industries on non-IT industries. The empirical results are summarized as follows. First, allowing for firm-level variables, market competition and technological spillovers, the strengthening of intellectual property rights does not play a significant role on innovative activities. Second, while innovative activities of domestic firms affect significantly firms' innovative activities, those of foreign firms do not. Third, innovative activities of IT industries as inter-industry spillovers play a significant role on innovative activities and labor productivities of domestic firms.
In this Paper, we analyzed the relative importance of multiple sources and their effects on innovative activities. Through factor analysis, we found 5 sources of innovative activities; university/laboratory source, within firm source, general information source, vertical/competitive relation source, and horizontal relation source. Through regression analysis, we found that (1) 'within firm source' is the most important source on innovative activities, (2) from inputs' point of view, the more 'vertical/competitive relation source' is, the less innovative activities we, (3) from outputs' point of view, innovations are more activated when 'university/laboratory source' is abundant. but, they are less activated when 'general information source' and 'vertical/competitive relation source' is abundant, and (4) according to firm size and innovation stages(newproduct innovation, upgraded product innovation, and process innovation), the effect of sources on innovative activities is different.

Research design, data, methodology: A questionnaire survey was carried out to 200 sellers in e-commerce. Exploratory factor analysis and reliability analysis for Cronbach's Alpha were performed to verify the validity and reliability of the and the regression analyses of 5,000 bootstrap samples were carried out to test hypotheses. Results: Based on the analysis, the elements of competencies of sellers in e-commerce such as self-control, trust-building, social interaction skills were positively related to the innovative sales activities and sales performances. Innovative sales activities also affected sales performances. Indirect effects of competencies of sellers on sales performance via innovative sales activities were partially effective depending on variables that brought practical implications. From a practical perspective, the valid competencies found in this study may be applied for the recruitment and selection of sellers. Conclusion: This study shed light on theories of e-commerce sales and sales practices by examining the competencies of sellers in e-commerce compared to those of traditional sellers and by revealing innovative sales activities as the effective mediator for sales performance.
This research aims at conducting a comparative study on the relative efficiency of technologically innovative activities between manufacturing and service industries using data envelopment analysis (DEA). First, as an individual approach, efficiency of technologically innovative activities between manufacturing and service industries is separately evaluated. The results show that efficiency of both industries is similarly low, but patterns of technologically innovative activities differ from each other. Manufacturing industries usually do innovation focusing on various outputs with a single input, whereas service industries tend to do innovation emphasizing on a single output with mixed inputs. Second, as a holistic approach to both industries, efficiency is collectively assessed. The analysis demonstrates that efficiency of service industries is higher than that of manufacturing industries, and there are similar patterns of technologically innovative activities between both manufacturing and service industries. This study provides industrial managers with policy implications based on similarities and differences between manufacturing and service industries.
This paper argues that there are circulative linkages between knowledge creation, sharing and utilization in innovative clusters. Based upon discussion about characteristics of circulative linkages between three types of knowledge activities, this paper presents three hypotheses: the more regions generate knowledge, the more active they share knowledge (hypothesis I); the more regions share knowledge, the more vigorous they utilize knowledge (hypothesis II) and the more regions generate knowledge, the more vigorous they utilize knowledge (hypothesis III). Empirical analysis into the Korean case turned out that hypotheses I and III were strongly supported, but hypothesis II weakly supported, probably due to inaccurate proxies for knowledge activities. This study may help guide provincial governments to choose policy goals to promote knowledge activities. It also leads to the conclusion that maintaining balance among three types of knowledge activities (creation, sharing and utilization) is a way of their policy making for the promotion of innovative clusters.
Purpose - The purpose of this study is to identify team commitment affecting employees' innovative activities and factors affecting team commitment including empowerment by leaders and job enrichment factors. In other words, so as to explain outcome variables of innovative activities, this study aims to emphasize employees' attachment roles towards their groups within nomological network, and identify the motives encouraging employees' innovative activities. The research purpose is significant due to the realistic situation of hotel industry. The reason why innovative activities are important can be found in recent changes of business environment. Also, unlike other various studies on precedence factors encouraging employees' innovative activities, this study classified those precedence factors into job and leader characteristics, and it emphasized the importance of team commitment as the process that job and leader characteristics are connected to innovative activities. Research design, data and methodology - The survey for this study was conducted during October 6th ~ November 10th in 2014 to the employees who are working in 5-star hotels in Korea. As for the selection of hotels and sampling method, convenience sampling method was used to the employees in 5-star hotels. Self-report method was used in the survey, judging that the employees' characteristics would be relatively homogeneous. 311 questionnaires were distributed in total, and 275 reponses were collected. After excluding the missing and unreliable responses, 245 questionnaires were used in the research. SPSS and AMOS programs were used for the analysis. Results - First, empowering leadership had positive effects on hotel employees' team commitment. It indicates that hotel employees are more committed to their team when their leaders set examples, provide information, and involve employees in decision-making process. Second, as a result of the relationship analysis in task diversity, task significance, task identity and team commitment, task diversity and task significance had significant effect on team commitment, while task identity had no significant effect on team commitment. It indicates that team commitment is enhanced when the employees can conduct diverse types of jobs and get more opportunities to talk with the guests. Also, the repetition for the same jobs in hotel rooms and the space for preparing food and beverage do not lead to team commitment, even though the employees fulfill their duties to the end. Third, hotel employees' team commitment has positive effect on their innovative activities. It indicates that employees voluntarily conduct innovative activities when they are attached to their team and identifies themselves with the team. Conclusions - There are theoretical and practical implications in this study. First, in terms of the theoretical perspective, this study proposes structural framework in team commitment, and it identifies the psychological mechanism in team commitment from the aspect of social exchange, which resulted in identification of precedence factors related to team commitment. In addition, this study presents new possibilities for relevant studies about team commitment by examining the effect on team commitment when the importance of innovative activities is emphasized in recent business environment.
This paper analyzes the determinants of firm's innovative activity, using Korean Innovation Survey (KIS) dataset. Especially, we focused on the role of external networks by partners(other firms or research institutions) in performing innovative activities. The product innovation, product improvement, and process innovation are used as proxies for innovative activity. The explanatory variables such as market concentration ratio, lagged profitability, foreign ownership, export ratio, firm's age, formal R&D activity, and industrial R&D intensity are also considered. With data from 1,124 firms for the two years (2000-2001), we estimated the logistic regression model. The finding is that the determinants of firm's innovative activities differ by type of innovations. We also found that the innovative behavior of SMEs differs from that of large firms. The result confirms that external networks have a strong positive effect on innovative activity. However, the network effects by partners vary across both firm size and type of innovations.
