To date, the implementation and adoption of new manufacturing technologies has been retarded despite their technical advances and strategic virtues such as flexibility and synergy effect. This phenomenon is partly attributable to the lack of commensurate development and widespread dissemination of adequate selection and justification procedures. Many strategically vital automation projects have been rejected and/or seemingly promising proposals have turned out to be fiascos since the justification process has been solely based on the traditional capital budgeting or engineering economy methods. As the degree of system automation/integration increases, a variety of benefit/cost attributes, both quantitative and qualitative, should be taken into account and more comprehensive and analytic justification methods should be applied in the justification process. This paper points out the distinct characteristics of advanced technologies and presents an illustrative set of procedures that can be used in the justification process. It outlines the algorithmic structure of each procedure and also describes the advantages/disadvantages of each procedure and the conditions under which it is most appropriate to employ. The selection of appropriate justification technique is situation-specific. In general, it is recommended that more complex and sophisticated procedures be used as the degree of integration increases. Nonetheless, traditional procedures may be used as well to make in-depth analyses of the local impact.
Metal additive manufacturing (AM) technologies are classified into two groups according to the consolidation mechanisms and densification degrees of the as-built parts. Densified parts are obtained via a single-step process such as powder bed fusion, directed energy deposition, and sheet lamination AM technologies. Conversely, green bodies are consolidated with the aid of binder phases in multi-step processes such as binder jetting and material extrusion AM. Green-body part shapes are sustained by binder phases, which are removed for the debinding process. Chemical and/or thermal debinding processes are usually devised to enhance debinding kinetics. The pathways to final densification of the green parts are sintering and/or molten metal infiltration. With respect to innovation types, the multi-step metal AM process allows conventional powder metallurgy manufacturing to be innovated continuously. Eliminating cost/time-consuming molds, enlarged 3D design freedom, and wide material selectivity create opportunities for the industrial adoption of multi-step AM technologies. In addition, knowledge of powders and powder metallurgy fuel advances of multi-step AM technologies. In the present study, multi-step AM technologies are briefly introduced from the viewpoint of the entire manufacturing lifecycle.
The purpose of this study was to explore consumption status of scented textile products and to determine differences in consumption behaviors of scented textile products among subject groups separated by demographic (sex, age) and lifestyle (health concern, fashion involvement, innovativenss) characteristics. A total of 530 consumers who had used scented textile products participated in the web survey for the study. Consumer data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, chi-square test, factor analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and LSD test. In the results, the most often used products were small commodities, socks, bedding, and underwear of hub and flower scents. Consumers considered a product test as the most crucial information source and scent as the most significant decision making factor for purchase. Demographic and lifestyle group differences were found in some of the product types in use as well as in purchase behaviors (total spending amount, purchase venue, information source, considering factors when purchasing). The applicability of the study result to the theory of innovation adoption was discussed. Marketing implications were suggested based on the study results.
LED (Light Emitting Diode) lighting is gaining more and more market penetration as one of the global warming countermeasures. LED is the next generation of fusion source composed of epi/chip/packaging of semiconductor process technology and optical/information/communication technology. LED has been applied to the existing industry areas, for example, automobiles, TVs, smartphones, laptops, refrigerators and street lamps. Therefore, LED makers have been striving to achieve the leading position in the global competition through development of core source technologies even before the promotion and adoption of LED technology as the next generation growth engine with eco-friendly characteristics. However, there has been a point of view on the cost compared to conventional lighting as a large obstacle to market penetration of LED. Therefore, companies are developing a Chip-Scale Packaging (CSP) LED technology to improve performance and reduce manufacturing costs. In this study, we perform patent analysis associated with Flip-Chip CSP LED and flow chart for promising technology forecasting. Based on our analysis, we select key patents and key patent players to derive the business strategy for the business success of Flip-Chip CSP PKG LED products.
The paddling technique is a Kind of secondary treatments in the process of ceramic forming, which appeared in the Chinese Neolithic Age pottery making. In the case of Korean prehistoric pottery making, it was first introduced together with the kiln firing method from Tongpei region(東北地方) of China in Yan(燕) dynasty occupation period. Korean archaeologists have recognized the adoption of the new technologies as a drastic innovation of ceramic production. And most of them have thought that the diffusion of new techniques, accompanied by the migration of the northern ethnic groups, had been immediately followed by the innovative changes in pottery procdution. However, rejecting the arguments from the simple diffusionist viewpoint, I have first tried to describe the innovation processes in the ceramic production systems as a spatio-temporal process. The paddling technique by the cord-wound paddle, which was first introduced among the various paddles, was associated with the new sort of pottery, round pots fired in low temperature of reducing atmosphere condition. The cord-marked round pots first tried by the indigenous potters in the southern part of Korean were characterized by the relatively low leveled techniques in forming and firing, compared to those of north-east China. The techniques of the round pots were hardly improved in the domestic production system until the appearance of the fully-specialized one. The specialized production system of the round pot, which appeared first in the mid-western region of Korea, showed the diversified paddling techniques and made the noticeable improvements in forming and firing processes.
Purpose - This study aims to investigate factors affecting Chatbot service acceptance attitude. For wide use of Chatbot service, firms need to find barriers or obstacles for customers, if any, not to use Chatbot service. Research design, data, and methodology - We apply value-based accept model to investigate the quality of Chatbot, to verify the meaning of service value of Chatbot and to find the relationship among variables. To test hypotheses, we conducted survey. We collected 300 questionnaires. SPSS version 2.0 is used. Regression analysis, moderating effect test is conducted. Results - 4 Qualities of Chatbot, Ease of use, Usefulness, Enjoyment, Interaction are affecting acceptance attitude, and 5 service values, only interaction does not affect emotion. Trust, Specialty, Necessity, Social, Emotion moderating Chatbot service to accepting attitude. Regarding moderating effects by personal characteristics and personal tendency, innovation resistance, innovativeness, and social effects are turned to have influence while regulatory focus, construal level does not have moderating force. Also, the auxiliary service like Chatbot service affects customers' evaluation on the main service quality. Conclusions - Service firms adopt Chatbot service for various purposes. The results imply that customers are generally recognize the merits of Chatbot, but there are some barriers such as innovation resistance characteristic especially uncomfortable.
To overcome the pandemic, a new strategy for innovation is in demand throughout the value chains of the fashion industry that emphasize the importance of fashion technology. Accordingly, as various viewpoints and fields of debate are unfolding to consider the direction of change led by fashion technology, it is necessary to make an active value judgment precedent by understanding the differences between various opinions. This study aims to derive keywords from fashion technology used during the pandemic, to infer the characteristics of each type of perspective and to understand their characteristics. For the research, this study combines text mining analysis and content analysis. Text mining analysis is used to find statistical patterns by collecting keywords from big data from online media, and content analysis is used to interpret the data qualitatively. After analyzing the results of this study, the following observations are made. First, the perspective of positive acceptance seeks to maximize the perception and sensory action of fashion through technology; this amplifies experience, an opportunity for innovation and efficiency. Second, critical vigilance highlights the side effects of radical changes in fashion technology, characterized by concerns about capital-centered polarization, threats to human rights, and infringement of creative thinking. Lastly, the perspective of gradual adoption is the gradual convergence of technologies, characterized by the pursuit of an appropriate balance.
Although NFTs are a new technology with a fast-growing industry, the studies for consumer protection and promotion are insufficient. Thus, this study analyzes the relationship of variables that affect intention to use NFT based on the UTUAT model, additionally, moderating effect of NFT types and crypto investment experience. Subjects of this study are limited to potential NFT users. The independent variables such as performance expectations, network externality, and innovation are statistically significant, however, the moderating effect is not suggested. With low awareness, the tendencies of subjects lead to adoption rather than technical understanding.
Rural spaces are experiencing an increasing demand for novel functionalities and adaptations driven by technological advancements in agriculture and rural areas. This study aimed to investigate the public perception of rural spaces in the context of evolving agricultural technologies, specifically focusing on photovoltaic power generation, and the ensuing competition among various functions of rural spaces. A survey was conducted with a participant sample of 330, revealing that the majority of respondents prioritize agricultural production as the primary function of farmland. Furthermore, the survey results indicated that the installation of solar panels on farmland is perceived as a complex issue that affects multiple aspects, such as the landscape, local economy, ecological environment, climate change, and income. Additionally, disparities in responses to landscape-related questions were observed based on age, perception of agricultural land functions, and opinions on technological adoption. This finding suggests that the landscape is poised to become a significant factor in future agricultural and rural transformations. The findings of this survey can provide valuable contributions to the preparation of changes catalyzed by advancements in agricultural technology. Moreover, they offer guidance on the key factors that need to be taken into account when introducing new functions to rural spaces.
With the advent of COVID-19, the world economy has undergone enormous losses and unprecedented crises. Moreover, this pandemic has put a significant effect on all business organizations, comprising the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sector. MSMEs have been continuing to develop business strategies and are eager to compete in the market. The COVID-19 pandemic has shifted the full focus of MSMEs from 'business growth' to 'business survival' worldwide. E-commerce readiness plays a crucial role in a time of uncertainty and crisis during COVID-19 and affects the durability and sustainability of the business. This study attempts to study the readiness of online business and "E-commerce" adoption of MSMEs and its contribution to economic growth by utilizing both qualitative and quantitative techniques in the case of India. We use content analysis to determine the readiness of online business and Ecommerce in the post COVID-19 period. The result highlights the specific issues of this sector such as the shortage of resources and disruptions in the supply chain & logistical issues during the COVID-19 pandemic. Qualitative analysis discloses that almost half of the respondents adopt online platforms along with additional challenges to sustain their business during the pandemic. This study utilizes annual time series data for the period from 1973-74 to 2017-18 to understand the long-run relationship between India's GDP and MSMEs units. By utilizing the co-integration technique, this study reveals that there is a long-run relationship between MSME units and the economic growth of this country.
