기술집약적 중소기업의 탈추격형 기술혁신 특성 분석 (The Analysis of Post Catch-up Innovation Patterns of Technology-intensive Small and Medium Firms)

  • 본 연구에서는 기술집약형 중소기업의 탈(脫)추격형 기술혁신활동 유형과 특성을 살펴보았다. 탈(脫)추격형 혁신활동 유형은 기술심화형, 신기술기반형, 아키텍처 혁신형으로 구분할 수 있다. 사례연구 결과를 보면, 기술심화형의 경우 모방 기술에 의거한 지속적인 능력축적이 혁신활동의 토대가 되었다. 신기술기반형은 배태조직에서 수행한 기초연구, 아키텍처형은 배태조직에서 획득한 시스템 아키텍처에 대한 지식이 탈(脫)추격형 혁신활동의 기반이 되었다. 또 기술심화형의 경우 수요자 공급자 기업, 생산지향형 연구소가 지식획득에 중요한 역할을 하지만, 신기술기반형은 대학과 수요자 기업, 아키텍처 혁신형은 수요자 기업과의 관계가 탈(脫)추격형 혁신을 추진하는 데 중요한 역할을 수행했다. 또한 탈(脫)추격형 기술혁신의 일반적인 특성으로서, 신기술의 등장과 확산이 이루어지는 기술 경제패러다임의 전환기에 열리는 기회의 창을 효과적으로 활용했다는 점을 지적했다.

  • Recently, the role of container ports is radically changing, These changes are largely driven by the innovation process of Logistics such as Supply Chain Logistics and Global Logistics due to the international expansional of industry. Under this environment, It is required that the container port should act as a integral part of a Supply Logistics Chain especially to provide the customer-oriented logistics service. This paper deals with the development strategy of container ports coping with these changes in the view point of container ports as a Logistics infrastructure to provide customer-response services and necessary to the economic promotion of hinterlands. Strategy is suggested in the phases of the customers desire, the pattern of container cargo, the economic promotion of hinterlands, and interrelation of container ports in north-east Asia and also domestics through the analysis of competiveness of container ports.

대덕 바이오클러스터의 기술현황: 특허 분석을 중심으로 (Technological status of Biocluster in Daedeok Innopolis: With the focused on the patent analysis)

  • KIPRIS patent database was analyzed for identifying the technological status of Daedeok Innopolis Biocluster. It was found that the pattern of activities among various technological areas in Daedeok Biocluster is similar to that of an advanced country rather than those of other cities in Korea. The technological growth in Daedeok Innopolis Biocluster is in the progressive stage, which may be due to the innovative activities rather than the rise in the number of new firms or institutes. The concentration of technology in Daedeok Innopolis Biocluster is a favorable condition for the innovation activities. The trend for the technological concentration was remarkably consistent with the growth curve that a population increases according to the logistic equation. The logistic growth may be represented by the result of competition due to the limited resource allocation and then innovation cluster is corresponding to the ecosystem composed by biological individuals. There is strong competition in Daedeok Innopolis Biocluster in around 2009, so the government might make a policy to encourage the technological diversity for healthy knowledge ecosystem.

산업의 기술체제 특성이 지식전파와 기술혁신에 미치는 영향 (Technological Regime, Knowledge Spillover and Innovation)

  • 본 연구에서는 산업의 혁신패턴이 기술체제에 좌우된다는 산업별 혁신체제론적 접근에 따라 산업의 기술체제 특성이 지식전파와 혁신성과에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 과학기술정책연구원의 "2008년 기술혁신활동조사: 제조업"DB 자료를 이용하여 기술체제에 따라 산업을 분류하고 계량모형을 이용해 지식외부성의 원천과 지식전파가 유발하는 기술혁신을 산업별로 분석하였는데, 주요결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째 특수적 암묵적 지식기반 산업에서는 일반적 명목적 지식기반 산업과 달리 기업의 혁신성과가 입지특성으로부터 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났으며, 고기술-특수적 암묵적 지식기반 산업에서는 연구개발자본이 풍부한 지역, 저기술-특수적 암묵적 지식기반 산업에서는 동종산업의 집적도가 높은 지역에 입지한 기업일수록 제품혁신이 활발하였다. 둘째 제품혁신을 선도적 혁신과 추종적 혁신으로 구분하여 지식전파가 유발하는 혁신수준을 산업별로 알아보았는데, 저기술산업에서는 외부로부터 전파된 지식이 선도적 혁신과 추종적 혁신을 유발하고 고기술산업에서는 추종적 혁신만 유발하는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 분석결과로부터 지식외부성의 원천과 지식전파가 유발하는 기술혁신의 수준은 산업의 기술체제에 따라 다르며, 지역산업 클러스터정책은 산업의 기술체제 특성을 감안해 모색할 필요가 있다는 함의를 얻고 있다.

Organizational Behavior of Established Firms to a Disruptive Innovation : The Case of NEC's Behavior in the Japanese Laptop Computer Industry

  • This paper analyzes organizational behavior of an established firm when disruptive innovation, a change in product architecture, occurs on a previous product. For the analysis, the paper analyzes and compares the behavior of an established fm through product trajectories between NEC (an established firm) and Toshiba (a new entrance) in the Japanese laptop computers industry. An established firm that has developed and produced a previous product is difficult in adapting to a disruptive innovation due to accumulated immense knowledge through a previous product. By using regression model in the product trajectory analysis, the paper analyzes the behavior of established firms. Product trajectory means a pattern of product strategy shown in a series of products. Two facts found in the paper are as follows. First, though NEC was able to develop a laptop computer at the same time with Toshiba, it was restricted by the resources of a previous product in the early stage. Second, possibility of teaming trap in the adapting process was found. The paper found the risk that too much commitment in one evolution stage would prohibit the adapting behavior in the next evolution stage.

정부와 민간의 R&D 투자 및 국민소득간의 인과관계 분석 : 한.미.일 국제비교

  • In this paper we: (1) analyze the relationship among public R&D investment, private R&D investment, and GDP by employing the Granger causality test; (2) examine if there is any country-specific pattern in the relationship by testing the cases of Korea, the U.S. and Japan. We found some common results for the above countries as follows: (i) GDP causes Public R&D, not vice versa; (ii) Private R&D causes GDP; and (iii) Public R&D does not cause Private R&D. For the bivariate model of GDP and total R&D, the results show the existence of one-way causality running from total R&D to GDP for both U.S, and Japan. We also found bidirectional causal relationship between GDP and total R&D for Korea, which could be interpreted as a typical pattern for newly industrialized countries.

  • The purpose of this paper is to study the pattern of interactive learning in strategic networks. Interactive learning is defined as the exchange and sharing of knowledge resources conducive to innovation between an innovator firm, its suppliers, and/or its customers. The strength of internal knowledge resources can either hamper or facilitate levels of interactive learning. We assume that more complex innovative activities urge firms to co-ordinate and exchange information between users and producers, which implies a higher level of interactive learning. To test our theoretical claims, we estimated the level of interactive learning of firms in strategic networks with: (1) their customers, (2) their suppliers. Theses analyses allow a comparison of the antecedents of interactive learning of firms participating in strategic networks. Our findings suggest that interactive learning with customers is positively affected by company's capabilities and value-created activities, and with supplies is positively affected by value-created activities and technology innovation centers.

R&D 투자의 경기순환적 특성에 관한 연구 (Empirical Research on Cyclical Patterns of R&D Investment)

  • The researches on cyclical patterns of R&D investment has a long history in developed economies since the Schumpeterian hypothesis that long-term productivity-enhancing innovative activities increase during recession. But in Korea the cyclical patterns of R&D investment is one of the unexplored academic areas. Unlike theoretical explanation of R&D's cyclical pattern, empirical results has shown that R&D investment is procyclical to business cycles in developed countries. This paper investigates whether Korean R&D investment show procyclical or countercyclical pattern to business cycles. The empirical results show that Korean R&D investment in private area is procyclical to business cycles with statistical significance, which confirms the credit-constraint theory's prediction, while public area's is not sensitive to them. Public R&D investment has long-term investment characteristics and can be utilized to stabilize procyclically-fluctuating private R&D investment.

Innovation Space Driving Business Growth of Semiconductor Enterprises: A Case Study of South Korean Samsung's Investment in China

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to investigate the direct and indirect impact of innovation space factors on the growth of semiconductor enterprises. Design/methodology - This empirical study uses the financial statements of 83 semiconductor listed companies in 23 provinces from 2004 to 2019 approved by CSRC (2019). A stepwise regression and backward regression are employed in order to examine the role of innovation space to expand technology investment in promoting business growth and uses South Korean Samsung's investment in China as a test case. Findings - Results indicate that innovation space, technology input, geographical area, owner's background, operating years and financing liabilities all contribute to a boost in business growth. Factors such as carbon emission, financial liberalization, government efficiency, technology input, and financing liabilities further influence management growth. Innovation space follows a nonlinear pattern, and this plays a positive role in magnifying the influence of technology on management growth. Additionally, operations of the state-owned companies and expansionary financing enterprises are influenced by the external economy. Regarding the spatial distribution, the Samsung investment in 24 companies in China shows that Samsung focuses on the acquisition of scarce resources for semiconductor production as a component of its investment and innovation strategy. Originality/value - Even though prior research has considered the concepts studied here, this study contributes to empirically evaluate the direct impact of innovation space on business growth, and the indirect impact of innovation space on business growth through technology investment. This study includes an in-depth discussion of the practical effects that innovation space has on China's economy, using a case of South Korean Samsung's investment in China as a test the empirical findings.
