Development of an Automated Design System for Oil Pumps with Multiple Profiles(Circle, Ellipse and Involute) (원, 타원 및 인벌루트 조합된 치형형상을 갖는 로터 개발)

  • A internal lobe pump is suitable for oil hydraulics of machine tools, automotive engines, compressors, constructions and other various applications. In particular, the pump is an essential machine element of an automotive engine to feed lubricant oil. The subject of this paper is the theoretical analysis of internal lobe pump whose the main components are the rotors: usually the outer one is characterized by lobe with elliptical and involute shapes, while the inner rotor profile is determined as conjugate to the other. And the integrated system which is composed of three main modules has been developed through AutoLISP under AutoCAD circumstance. It generates new lobe profile and calculates automatically the flow rate and flow rate irregularity according to the lobe profile generated. Results obtained from the analysis enable the designer and manufacturer of oil pump to be more efficient in this field.

  • Magnetic field distribution of rotating flux type Low-Tc superconducting (LTS) power supply with respect to the applied current on exciters is investigated in detail by using Finite Element Method (FEM). LTS power supply consists of two exciters, a rotor, a stator and superconductor foil attached to the inner surface of the stator and LTS load. The current pumping of LTS power supply is induced by partial-quenching and recovery of superconductor foil. For this reason, magnetic flux density on superconductor foil must be sufficiently greater than the its critical magnetic density. In this analysis, the normal spot on superconductor foil appears more than 10A of excitation current. The results of this analysis are calculated and compared with the experimental results.

  • This paper deals with comparison of characteristics of continuous-sheet type low-Tc superconducting (LTS) power supply and discrete-sheet type LTS power supply. These characteristics have been analyzed through experiments. These power supplies consist of two exciters, a rotor, a stator, and a LTS load. A continuous-sheet type has a single continuous niobium (Nb) sheet attached to the inner surface of on the stator. In the case of discrete-sheet type, four separated Nb sheets are used. this experiment is using 1.81 mH LTS magnet load and maximum 30 A dc exciter current. A discrete-sheet type is expected to produce much better pumping rate than a continuous-sheet type. The experimental observations have been compared with the theoretical predictions. In this experiment, the maximum pumping-current has reached about 926 A.

  • The high pressure turbopump carries out supplying the oxidizer in the liquid propulsion rocket in the combustion chamber. Because an LRE requires a very short starting time , the turbine at the turbopump experiences high torque that was produced by the high pressure and the high temperature. The purpose of this study is to evaluate a turbine blade surface temperature profiles at initial starting 0 ${\sim}$ 0.5 sec. Using $Fine^{Tm}$/turbo, three dimensional Baldwin-Lomax turbulence models are used for numerically analysis. The turbine is composed of 108 blades total, but only 7 rotors were considered because of periodic symmetry effect. Because of interaction with a bow shock on the suction surface, the boundary layer separates from suction surface at inner area of turbine blade. The averaged temperature of the turbine blade tip at 1000 rpm is higher than that of 9000 rpm. Especially at 1000 ${\sim}$ 9000 rpm, temperatures increases on the hub side of the turbine blade tip. Moreover at 9000 rpm, the temperatures from the hub to the shroud of the blade tip increase as well.

  • A gerotor pump is suitable for oil hydraulics of machine tools, automotive engines, compressors, constructions and other various applications. Especially the pump is an essential machine element of an automotive engine to feed lubricant oil. The subject of this paper is the theoretical analysis of internal lobe pump whose the main components are the rotors: usually the outer one is characterized by lobes with circular shape, while the inner rotor profile is determined as conjugate to the other. For this reason the first topic presented here is the definition of the geometry of the rotors starting from the design parameters. The choice of these parameters is subject to some limitations in odor to limit the pressure angle between the rotors. Now we will consider the design optimization. The first step is the determination of the instantaneous flow rate as a function of the design parameter. This allows us to calculate three performance indexes commonly used far the study of positive displacement pumps: the flow rate irregularity, the specific flow rate, and the specific slipping. These indexes are used to optimize the design of the pump and to obtain the sets of optimum design parameter. Results obtained from the analysis enable the designer and manufacturer of oil pump to be more efficient in this field, and the system could serve as a valuable one for experts and as a dependable training aid for beginners.

Design and performance analysis of a gerotor expander for power generation from waste heat (폐열회수 발전을 위한 지로터 팽창기 설계 및 성능해석)

  • In this paper, the feasibility study on a gerotor type expander as a power converting device in a small scale power generation ORC system was made by performance analysis of the gerotor expander. Design of a 1kW-class gerotor expander was carried out and its performance was numerically simulated. For a R134a Rankine system with about 20 kW solar heat source, the gerotor expander efficiency was calculated to be 35~75% for the operating conditions of $Te=80{\sim}100^{\circ}C$ and $Tc=30{\sim}60^{\circ}C$. Maximum expander efficiency was obtained at an expansion ratio somewhat higher than the design expansion ratio due to pre-expansion during suction process inside the outer and inner rotor mate. If the operating expansion ratio is not far from the design expansion ratio, the gerotor expander performance can be well compared to that of a scroll type.

  • A novel equivalent flux sliding-mode observer (SMO) is proposed for dual three-phase interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (DT-IPMSM) drive system in this paper. The DT-IPMSM has two sets of Y-connected stator three-phase windings spatially shifted by 30 electrical degrees. In this method, the sensorless drive system employs a flux SMO with soft phase-locked loop method for rotor speed and position estimation, not only are low-pass filter and phase compensation module eliminated, but also estimation accuracy is improved. Meanwhile, to get the regulator parameters of current control, the inner current loop is realized using a decoupling and diagonal internal model control algorithm. Experiment results of 2MW-level DT-IPMSM drives system show that the proposed method has good dynamic and static performances.

Electromagnetic Structure Design Study of Fault-Tolerant Interior Permanent Magnet Machines for Electric Vehicles Using Harmonic Order Shaping

  • Although pretty methods have been proposed to reduce torque ripple, they generally suffer from the decreased torque density. This paper will investigate the spoke-type interior permanent magnet (IPM) machine with shaping methods, including the sinusoidal (SIN), the inverse cosine (ICS), the sinusoidal with third harmonic (SIN+3rd), and the inverse cosine with third harmonic (ICS+3rd). In order to obtain low torque ripple and high torque density, the shaping method applied in rotor and stator at the same time, termed as the dual-shaping method, is proposed. This method is analytically derived and further confirmed by finite element method (FEM). It turns out that the ICS and ICS+3rd shaping methods are more suitable for outer rotors, while the SIN and the SIN+3rd shaping method should be used in inner stators. The original machine, the singular shaped machines and the dual-shaped machines on electromagnetic performances are compared for evaluation. The results verify that the dual-shaping method can improve torque density, whilst reducing torque ripple.

A Study on the Establishment of Allowable Criteria for Sailing Ships at Offshore Wind Farms (해상풍력발전단지해역 선박 통항 허용기준 설정에 관한 연구)

  • Since global energy consumption and demand for energy have dramatically risen, a focus on environmental problems and sustainability has become more important. Clean and renewable energy sources such as offshore wind power generation have received attention among new renewable energy options as alternative energy resources. Due to maintenance and operational perspectives, offshore wind farms have been planned for installation in many coastal waters. However, development of offshore wind farms faces interference from existing maritime traffic along the planned areas. In order to safely and effectively govern marine traffic in the vicinity of wind farms and inner areas, standard criteria are suggested to allow vessels to sail the internal waters of offshore wind farm areas. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to establish allowable criteria for sailing vessels and safety zones for offshore wind farms by investigating the local regulations of various offshore wind farm cases overseas. The commended inner safety zone of wind farms is proposed to be a distance of 150 % of the rotation diameter of the wind turbine rotor and a distance of 200 m from the outer wind turbine for the outer safety zone. Besides this, the allowable criteria for sailing vessels within a wind farm is proposed to have an air draft of 14.47 m south-west wind farm sea areas for a minimum margin to avoid hull contact through evaluation of the tide and height of a wind turbine. further studies will be needed to establish vessel sailing criteria among adjacent offshore wind farms as well as vessel sailing criteria within a single offshore wind farm.
