This paper addresses influence on the flow field by varying the length of DPF Inlet pipe in 5 ways. Numerical analysis is carried out by using PIV and commercial code and as a result, PIV and commercial code shows correlation correspond to 87%. Furthermore, in the same velocity condition, as stable and high pressure value is shown when the Inlet pipe length is 20mm, particulate filtering rate can be increased.

A numerical and experimental study of three-dimensional steady incompressible non-reacting flow inside various dual-monolith catalytic converters has been conducted for achievement of performance improvement, reduction of light-off time and longer service life by improving the flow uniformity within the monolith. In this study, the effects of curvature of inlet exhaust pipe and monolith brick length on the flow uniformity and pressure drop within monolith were numerically investigated. The computations are confirmed by measurements of steady flow. The agreement between computations and experiment was relatively good. The result of this study shows that curvature of inlet exhaust pipe and monolith brick length gave a great effect on the flow uniformity and the shorter the brick length, the lower flow uniformity and the less pressure drop.

The Process of Pressurized water diffusion is mixing process by pressurized water injection with coagulate and chlorine water in the water treatment system. The objectives of this research were to evaluate the mixing length and diameter of diffusion plate and distance from injection pipe for complete mixing by using computational fluid dynamics. From the results of CFD simulation, when diameter of injection pipe is 50 mm, 100 mm and injection pressure is $5kg/cm^2$ and the diameter of inlet pipe is 2,200 mm, the complete mixing length is 4D (D: Length as diameter of inlet pipe). When diameter of injection pipe is 50 mm, the diameter of the diffusion plate in o.1D and distance from injection pipe is 0.2D, the complete mixing length is 3D that is the most short mixing length. But when diameter of injection pipe is 100 mm and mutually related the diameter, distance of diffusion plate, the complete mixing length is 4D over. Therefore, as the diameter of inlet pipe is 2,200 mm, the injection pipe 50 mm is more efficient than 100 mm.
An experimental investigation has been peformed to examine the effects of various geometrical parameters and an initial operating condition on the air-water countercurrent How limitation (CCFL) in a simulated PWR hot leg. A total of 118 experimental data for the onset of CCFL and zero liquid penetration were obtained for various combinations of test parameters. It was observe that the CCFL can be classified into three different categories: (the onset of CCFL, (the partial liquid delivery, and (r) the zero liquid penetration. The observed mechanisms of the onset of CCFL were different depending on the inlet water flow rate. The parametric effects of pipe diameter, horizontal pipe length, horizontal pipe length-to-diameter (L/D) ratio, and initial water level in the horizontal pipe of the test section on the onset of air-water CCFL were also examined. An empirical correlation for the onset of CCFL in a horizontal pipe connected to an inclined riser was developed in terms of Wallis flooding parameters for the low inlet water flow rate region. Comparisons of the present empirical correlation with the air-water CCFL data of large pipe diameters show that the present correlation agrees more closely with the experimental data than the existing CCFL correlations.

This paper discusses the acoustic performance of simple expansion chamber using computational fluid dynamics(CFD). The CFD model consists of an axisymmetric grid with a single period sinusoid of acceptable amplitude and duration imposed at the inlet boundary condition. The time history of the static pressure is recorded at two points, one in the inlet pipe and one point in outlet pipe. The time history of the static pressure is converted to the frequency domain using Fourier Transform and the transmission loss (TL) of the muffler is obtained from the ratio of the static pressure at the inlet and outlet pipe. The transmission loss of CFD result is compared with that of the computational acoustic analysis using the boundary element method (BEM). There are some differences in two results due to the pressure drop according to the inlet and outlet pipe length. Therefore, the effects of the pressure drop to the transmission loss have to be considered.

The study of unsteady gas exchange processes in the inlet and exhaust systems of the single-cylinder 4-stroke cycle spark ignition engine is presented in this paper. The generalized method of characteristics including friction, heat transfer, change of flow area and entropy gradients was used for solving the equations defining the gas exchange process. The path line calculation was also conducted to allow for calculation of the gas composition and entropy change along the path lines, and of the variable specific heat due to the change of temperature and composition. As the result of the simulation, the properties at each point in the inlet and exhaust pipe, pressure and temperature in the cylinder, and charging efficiency were obtained. Pumping loss and residual gas fraction were also computed. The effect of engine speed, exhaust and inlet pipe length on the pumping loss and charging efficiency were studied showing that the results were in agreement with what has been known from experiments.
Air lift pump operated by buoyancy is mainly used for the continuous circulation and the purification of fluids. In this study, the computational flow analysis has been performed with the geometric and operating conditions of the air lift pump. The numerical data from the analysis have been verified by comparing with the previous experimental data. The following results are obtained which advance the efficiency of the air lift pump. As the submergence length of pipe increases and the pipe length over the water surface decreases, the non-dimensional mass flow ratio increases in both cases. When the position of the air injection hole is within the pipe, the circulation range of the surrounding fluid becomes widened with the distance between the air injection hole and the pipe inlet relatively becoming narrower. It is more efficient both when the air injection velocity is at 10 m/s and at 15 m/s, and when the diameter of the pipe with holes is doubled near the water surface. It is expected that these results can be provided as fundamental data for operating the air lift pump.
The major parameters governing the fluid dynamical and thermo-dynamical behavior in the large pipeline network system are friction loss and the pipeline length. But in local pipeline networks and relatively short distance pipeline system, secondary loss and the considerations of the moving states of the fluid machine are also important. One of the major element in local pressure control system is pressure regulator. It causes the variations of the physical properties in that pipeline system. Especially, as there is not enough information to obtain reliable physical property values such as density, temperature etc. at the downstream of the pressure regulator, It is hard to calculate accurate solution in the pipeline network analysis. In this study, some numerical approaches to investigate the critical-flow-characteristics of the pressure regulator have been done and the detail examinations and considerations of the pressure regulator as a pipeline network elements according to the variations of the inlet-outlet pressure ratio have been carried. Finally the flow-flied distributions, relations and critical-flow-characteristics have been studied. in detail and the 1D analytic method to analyze critical pipe flow have been investigated
Distribution basins are used widely in the water treatment process. Uniform distribution at the distribution basin is an important because it affect precipitation efficiency of sedimentation basin. Generally distribution basin has a free surface water and is consisted of a weir. Study result, when inflow of distribution basin is less, amount of overflow is much at the nearest weir from the inlet. But when inflow is much, amount of overflow is much at the far weir from the inlet. The difference of distribution amount at the pipe is affected by the curvature and length of the pipe. The magnitude of the effect is determined by the relative energy loss and the flow state of the distribution basin. Optimization of the response surface method for minimizing an amount of deviation of the distribution is a very useful technique to determine the optimal ratio of the valve opening.

An experimental result for heat transfer of pulsating turbulent pipe flow was presented under the condition of fully developed dynamic regime and uniform wall heat flux. Experiments were performed at following conditions ; Inlet time-averaged Reynolds number varied from 5000 to 11000; The peak pressure fluctuation were 1.3, 2.3 and 3.5 percent of the mean pressure; Pulsating frequency ranged from 53 Hz to 320 Hz The measurements showed that the effect of pulsation on local heat transfer is greater at downstream, in which pulsating source exists, than upstream and the heat transfer rate, averaged over the pipe length, was higher or lower than in an equivalent non-pulsating flow according to the pulsating conditions. In addition, the significant change of heat transfer rate was observed in acoustically resonant conditions, when the pulsating frequency of the flow corresponded to the pipe natural frequency.
