In the present study, a numerical analysis of the three-dimensional heat transfer and fluid flow for a vehicle cooling system was developed. The flow field of the engine room between the grille and radiator was analyzed. The results show that, as the airflow inlet grille angle $\alpha$ is varied from $15^{\circ}$ to $-15^{\circ}$, the air flow rate compared with $\alpha=0^{\circ}$(horizontal) changes from -11.9% to +5.1%; while the heat flux from the radiator changes from -9.2% to +4.4%. When the airflow inlet bumper angle $\beta$ is varied from $-5^{\circ}$ to $+15^{\circ}$, the heat flux from the radiator compared with $\beta=0^{\circ}$(horizontal) increases up to +4.4%. When the airflow inlet grille angle $\alpha=-15^{\circ}$ and the bumper grill angle $\beta=+15^{\circ}$, the airflow rates and heat flux compared with($\alpha=0^{\circ}$, $\beta=0^{\circ}$) can be increased to +9.5% and +7.5%, respectively. The results indicate that the optimal angles for cooling efficiency are used.
A centrifugal compressor was tested with three different diffusers with plate vanes. The vane inlet angle was varied from 15 to 30 dog. The higher static pressure rises are obtained with lower vane stagger angle. In the stable region the static pressure field in vaneless space is very sensitive to flow rate. The impeller has a stabilizing effect over the whole stable operating range. The diffuser has a stabilizing effect at high flow rate but is destabilizing at low flow rate.
Effects of Injector nozzle geometry and operating pressure conditions such as opening pressure, ambient pressure. and injection pressure on the transient fuel spray behavior have been examined by experiments. In order to clarify the effect of internal flow inside nozzle on the external spray, flow details Inside model nozzle and real nozzle were alto investigated both experimentally and numerically. for the effect of injection pressures, droplet sizes and velocities were obtained at maximum line pressure of 21 MPa and 105 MPa. Droplet sizes produced from the round inlet nozzle were larger than those from the sharp inlet nozzle and the spray angle of the round inlet nozzle was narrower than that from the sharp inlet nozzle. With the increase of opening pressure, spray tip penetration and spray angle were increased at both lower ambient pressure and higher ambient pressure. The velocity and size profiles maintained similarity despite of the substantial change in injection pressure, however, the increased injection pressure produced a higher percentage of droplet that are likely to breakup.

In a pump, from the performance point of view, it is very important to minimize the shock loss at the inlet of the rotor blades. In this study, the effects of shape and install angle of the inlet guide on the performance of an axial-flow pump are numerically simulated using commercial CFD code, Ansys CFX. Finally, to obtain the optimized shape of the vanes and the install angle of the vanes in the inlet guide under given operating conditions, optimization analysis is conducted using Analysis design exploration based on response surface optimization.
Numerical calculation has been performed to investigate the fluid flow, heat transfer and local mass fraction of chemical species in the MOCVD (metalorganic chemical vapor deposition) manufacturing process. The mixing of reactants (trimethylgallium with hydrogen gas and ammonia) was presented by the concentration of each reactants to predict the uniformity of film growth. Effects of inlet size, location, mass flow rate and susceptor/cold wall tilt angle on the concentration were reported. The newly developed reactor, that precursors were supplied at separated inlet to prevent from premixing, was investigated to obtain the quantitative verification. As a results, the optimum mass flow rate, wall tilt angle and inlet conditions were proposed.
A numerical simulation on the flow field was carried out on the cylindrical shell with baffles. The steady incompressible 3-D Navier-Stokes solution is obtained with the actual operational condition and geometry of the heat exchanger. The effect of the location of inlet and outlet on the cylindrical shell with baffle is investigated by varying flow rate. The angle between the location of In/Outlet and baffle cutting part is $0^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$, $120^{\circ}$, $150^{\circ}$ and $180^{\circ}$. The present results show that the pressure drop is dependent on Reynolds number in the inlet area and position of inlet and outlet; i.e., the pressure drop increases with increasing Reynolds number and the pressure drop decreases with increasing angle between baffle cutting part and position of inlet and outlet.

Small hydropower is a reliable energy technology to be considered for providing clean electricity generation. Producing electrical energy by small hydropower is the most efficient contribution to renewable energy. Cross-flow turbine is adopted primarily because of its simple structure and high possibility of applying to small hydropower. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of inlet nozzle shape on the performance and internal flow of a cross-flow turbine for small hydropower by CFD analysis. Moreover, the shape effect of draft tube has been investigated according to modified shapes of the length and the diffuse angle. The results show that relatively narrow and converging inlet nozzle shape gives better effect on the performance of the turbine.

Combustion and emission characteristics in a direct injection diesel engine is closely related to the intake port system. It is therefore important to understand the swirl flow characteristics formed by a helical intake port. However there are still many uncertainties. The purpose of this experimental study is to investigate the effects of the valve eccentricity ratio and the inlet flow conditions of a helical intake port on the characteristics of an in-cylinder swirl flow. A steady state flow test rig consisted of ISM(impulse swirl meter), LFM(laminar flow meter) and cylinder head with a helical intake port was used. The swirl ratio(Rs) and mean flow coefficient(Cf(mean)) with inlet flow conditions were measured. The results of these experiment can be summarized as follows. Swirl flow characteristics of a helical intake port are affected by the inlet flow conditions, and especially they are much affected by the length of a manifold runner and the rotational angle of a curved manifold runner.

In this study, the affect of mounting axisymmetrical supersonic inlet to airfoil, which has 65 degree swept angle was numerically investigated. The parameter for this calculation are tree stream Mach number M=2.0 and 2.5, the distance between inlet spike and airfoil lower surface $L_{sw}$/$R_{cowl}$ = 1.21-1.54 and angle of attack to the airfoil 0-4. The mass capture ratio improved 3points in M=2.0 condition and 1points in M=2.5 while the mass capture ratio without airfoil surface was 57% and 71 % for each case. These are the result from increase of density and change of velocity deflection by the shock wave structure formed between inlet and airfoil surface. On the other hand, the distortion of Mach number at cowl lip plane increased by 13% in M=2.0, 3% in M=2.5 condition. The effects of the angle attack on the mass capture ratio is greater than that of the shock wave interaction between inlet and cowl, but the effects to the distortion is smaller in the range of this calculation condition. In the condition of M=2.0 with 4 degrees of angle of attack, inlet distortion of Mach number is mainly caused by the affects of the shock wave interaction between inlet and airfoil surface, while the largest angle of the velocity vector in the radial direction at cowl lip plane is caused by the affect of angle of attack. This large velocity vector made the flow inside the cowl subsonic and caused spillage, which interfere with the boundary layer of airfoil surface.

Oval substrates are widely used in automobiles to reduce the exhaust emissions in Diesel oxidation Catalyst of CI engine. Because of constraints in space and packaging Oval substrate is preferred rather than round substrate. Obtaining the flow uniformity is very challenging in oval substrate comparing with round substrate. In this present work attempts are made to optimize the inlet cone design to achieve the optimal flow uniformity with the help of CATIA V5 which is 3D design tool and CFX which is 3D CFD tool. Initially length of inlet cone and mass flow rate of exhaust stream are analysed to understand the effects of flow uniformity and pressure drop. Then short straight cones and angled cones are designed. Angled cones have been designed by two methodologies. First methodology is rotating flow inlet plane along the substrate in shorter or longer axis. Second method is shifting the flow inlet plane along the longer axis. Large improvement in flow uniformity is observed when the flow inlet plane is shifted along the direction of longer axis by 10, 20 and 30 mm away from geometrical centre. When the inlet plane is rotated again based on 30 mm shifted geometry, significant improvement at rotation angle of $20^{\circ}$ is observed. The flow uniformity is optimum when second shift is performed based on second rotation. This present work shows that for an oval substrate flow, uniformity index can be optimized when inlet cone is angled by rotation of flow inlet plane along axis of substrate.
