  • Dip-pen nanolithography(DPN) is an atomic force microscope (AFM) based method of generating nano- or micro-patterns. This technique has been used to transfer various ink materials on the substrate through water meniscus formed between AFM tip and the substrate surface. In this study, the heptadecafluoro-1,1,2,2-tetrahydrodecyltrimethoxysilane (HDFDTMS) ink materials were coated on the pre-coated AFM tip surface with the HDFDTMS molecules. When the tip brought into contact with the hydroxyl-functionalized silicon surface, HDFDTMS ink molecules have been successfully transported from the tip onto the surface via water meniscus. The created array and passivation area showed stable structures on the surface, and the transport of ink materials from the AFM tip to the surface followed linear increase in pattern size with contact time.

  • Dampening in printing is not only used with plain water but also used with various substances like dampening additive, in order to improve the wetting property by lowering the surface tension and to control material for modifing the ink transfer characteristic with proper emulsification. We have studied the printing quality according to these, looking into interrelationship among the dampening solution's pH, electrical conductivity and IPA content, prescribing the proper usage and minimum usage of fountain solution and dampening additive. In this study, it shows good result when mixing at the 7 wt% dampening with additive solution, which is result from the color density of printed sheets in accordance with the change of dampening solution condition. And the printed density value calculated 1 hour after printing, it shows relatively safe value at the etch liquid 4 wt% and IPA addition 2 wt%. The dry down at this test showed similar results regardless of various dampening conditions on coated paper, but in case of uncoated paper, the dry down showed a quite gap of different due to the fast penetration to the paper.

  • Stamps for microcontact processing are fabricated by casting elastomer such as PDMS on a master with a negative of the desired pattern. After curing, the PDMS stamp is peeled away from the master and exposed to a solution of ink and then dried. Transfer of the ink from the PDMS stamp to the substrate occurs during a brief contact between stamp and substrate. Generally, negative-tone masters, which are used for making positive-tone PDMS stamps, are fabricated by using photolithographic technique. The shortcomings of photolithography are a relative high-cost process and require extensive processing time and heavy capital investment to build and maintain the fabrication facilities. The goal of this study is to fabricate a negative-tone master by using Nano-indenter based patterning technique. Various sizes of V-grooves and U-groove were fabricated by using the combination of nanoscratch and HF isotropic etching technique. An achieved negative-tone structure was used as a master in the PDMS replica molding process to fabricate a positive-tone PDMS stamp.

  • This analysis demonstrates the effective removal of heat generated from a solar panel's output degradation factor solar cells (the solar panel's output deterioration factor), and solves the problems of oxidation and corrosion in existing metal heat sinks. The heat-dissipating test specimen was prepared using carbon materials; then, its thermal conductivity and its effectiveness in reducing temperatures were studied using heat transfer numerical analysis. As a result, the test specimen of the 30g/㎡ basis weight containing 80% of carbon fiber impregnated with carbon ink showed the highest thermal conductivity 6.96 W/(m K). This is because the surface that directly contacted the solar panel had almost no pores, and the conduction of heat to the panels appeared to be active. In addition, a large surface area was exposed to the atmosphere, which is considered advantageous in heat dissipation. Finally, numerical analysis confirmed the temperature reduction effectiveness of 2.18℃ in a solar panel and 1.08℃ in a solar cell, depending on the application of heat dissipating materials.

  • This paper presents the development and implementation of a zero-copy file transfer mechanism that improves the efficiency of file transfers for PC cluster systems using hardware-based VIA(Virtual Interface Architecture) network adapters. VIA is one of the representative user-level communication interfaces, but because there is no library for file transfer, one copy occurs between kernel buffer and user boilers. Our mechanism presents a file transfer primitive that does not require the file system to be modified and allows the NIC to transfer data from the kernel buffer to the remote node directly without copying. To do this, we have developed a hardware-based VIA network adapter, which supports the PCI 64bit/66MHz bus and Gigabit Ethernet, as a NIC, and implemented a zero-copy file transfer mechanism. The experimental results show that the overhead of data coy and context switching in the sender is greatly reduced and the CPU utilization of the sender is reduced to $30\%\~40\%$ of the VIA send/receive mechanism. We demonstrate the performance of the zero-copy file transfer mechanism experimentally. and compare the results with those from existing file transfer mechanisms.

  • Polymeric mesogens having a regularly alternating rigid-flexible repeating structure in the main-chain polymer exhibit distinct even-odd oscillation in their thermodynamic quantities with respect to the number of methylene units in the spacer. The even-odd oscillation depends on the number of methylene groups in the spacer the entropy change at the NI(nematic-isotropic) phase transition becomes less distinct when the linking group is replaced by the carbonate. In our previous work, we have suggested that the characteristics arise from the geometrical arrangement of the linkage. In this work, we have prepared a series of carbonate-type monomer and dimer liquid crystals. The thermodynamic behaviors at the NI phase transition have been compared with those previous reported for the ether- or ester-type liquid crystals. For the dimer series, the orientational order parameter of the mesogenic core was determined by using H-NMR technique. The origin of the difference observed among linking groups was found to the geometrical characteristics of chemical structure.

  • We describe that an elastomeric stamp of poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) can modify the surface energy of some surfaces when brought into conformal contact with the number of stamping. We focus on an increase of the hydrophobicity of the patterned surface due to diffusion of low molecular weight (LMW) silicone polymer chains. The transfer of PDMS to the surface during patterning is relevant to and calls for attention by those who are using this method in applications where control of the surface chemistry is of importance for the application.

  • In printed electronics, printing rolls are used to transfer electronic ink onto a flexible substrate. Generally printing rolls are being made by the indirect laser method which is based on the etch process, thus not environment-friendly and not suitable for making a large printing roll. For the pursuit of making a large printing roll for mass printing of electronic devices, we have directly engraved micro-patterns into a Zn plated printing roll using a 30W pulse-modulated fiber laser. We have successfully engraved line patterns ranging from about 15-30${\mu}m$ in width.
