Optimization of multi-quality characteristics in injection molded parts is very important, but it is sometimes difficult for part/mold designers. The objective of this study is to develop a practical design methodology for optimizing two-quality characteristics of injection molded parts. To attain this end, we developed a new design-range reduction algorithm based on Taguchi's orthogonal arrays for two characteristics. Then, the algorithm was integrated with commercial injection-molding simulation tools. A feature of the proposed methodology is that it allows field-designers unfamiliar with general optimization methods to be able to apply the methodology to their design problems with ease. Finally, we have applied the proposed design methodology to optimization of weldlines and deflections in an actual bezel model. The results show the usefulness of this methodology.

The disintegration process of initial spray from high-pressure swirl injector was investigated at different injection pressures. The transient breakup phenomena that were difficult to observe at high injection pressure were easily observed at the low injection pressure of 0.4MPa. The effect of fuel remained inside a nozzle hole volume on the penetration of initial spray was also investigated. The disintegration process of initial spray could be classified four regions: the formation of mushroom shape, the first collision, the second collision, and the development of spray, The liquid film of cup shape was particularly found in the second collision region, and the growth ratio of its length and width at low and high injection pressures were compared.

Recently, injection molding process became more popular than ever to produce large quantities of high precision products. Extensive studies have been conducted for reducing the residual stresses and birefringence in injection-molded optical products. Flow-induced and thermally-induced stresses and birefringence have been found as two main sources during injection molding process. Generally, quantitative value of birefringence can be measured with polarizing microscope using the compensator. However, it is difficult to measure low order retardation with microscope, so developing a measurement system for low order optical path difference is in need. In the present paper, a system using Photo Elastic Modulator (PEM) is demonstrated to measure low phase retardation in injection-molded products.
The Injection molding is used more than 70% of total production in plastic products. The injection molding process has 4 processes such as filling, packing, cooling and ejecting. now then, cooling process spends the most of times in Injection molding cycle time. Therefore, it is important to control the mold temperature in producing plastic products. The cooling system and time affect the product's quality and productivity. Especially, cooling time has about 60% of total injection cycle time. Therefore, we can improve a productivity by shortening cooling time. In this study, the rapid cooling system was developed and performed a efficiency test. This system could refrigerate coolant to $1^{\circ}C$ and had to need 10 minutes for normal operating.
In order to investigate the optimum condition of the autofrettage process for the diesel engine injection pipe, different values of autofrettage pressure, pressure rising time, pressure holding time, and repetition of autofrettage process were applied. Autofrettage was preformed by applying the hydrostatic internal pressures of 603 MPa, 535 MPa, 500 MPa on the fuel injection pipe, corresponding to theoretically 50%, 30%, and 20% overstrain levels, respectively. The autofrettage residual stresses in the injection pipe were experimentally determined by using X-ray diffractometer. As the overstrain level increased, the magnitude of compressive residual stress at the bore increased. It was found that the rising time to reach the autofrettage pressure, holding time at the autofrettage pressure, and repeating application of the autofrettage pressure on the pipe had no significant influence on the residual stress distributions.

Micro fabrication of polymeric materials becomes increasingly important. And it is considered as a low-cost alternative to the silicon or glass-based Micro Electro-Mechanical System(MEMS) technologies. In the present study, micro channels were fabricated via LiGA(Lithographie, Galvanoformung, Abformung) process used for Capillary Electrophoresis(CE) chip. Taguchi method was applied to investigate the effects of process conditions in injection molding(melt temperature, injection speed, mold temperature and packing pressure) on the transcription characteristics of the micro channel. It was found that the skin layer disturbs a formation of micro channel. Furthermore, mold temperature and injection speed were two important factors to affect the replication characteristics of micro channel.
Accurate optical texturing of light guide plate over the entire surface area is an important technical issue in LCD TV industry. Injection molding process has the potential to produce large light guide plates having highly efficient optical textures such as micro-prism array. This study is focused on the effect of the degree of replication of the micro texture of the 40" injection molded light guide plates on the overall optical performance of the display panel. Measured replication ratios of the micro-textures formed with three different types of injection molding process were considered in the modeling of prismatic micro segment array. Optical simulation was conducted and results were discussed.
Among the many techniques available to synthesis metal matrix composites, liquid phase processing, especially, conventional casting process such as stir-casting process is particularly attractive for their simplicity, economy and flexibility, In the present study, A356/20%SiCp composites were fabricated by gas-particle co-injection method. The gas-particle co-injection method is a modified stir-casting method and the corporation of particle could be improved by acceleration of particles due to rotation of impeller and gas purging. The microstructures and mechanical properties such as tensile properties and resistance to wear of fabricated materials were examined. Further, the particle injection mechanism in gas-particle co-injection method was discussed.

Recently, the engineering designer of injection mould has become more and more dependent on the CAE. In the design factors of injection mould, the shrinkage rate should be considered as one of the important performances to produce the reliable products. therefore the shrinkage rate can be mostly calculated by the MoldFlow and Pro-engineering. in the design process. However it is not easy to predict the shrinkage rate of a plastic injection mold in its design process because the analysis can take minutes to hours, the high computational costs of performing the analysis limit their use in design optimization. In this study, the surrogate models, DACE model, based on the Kriging in order to optimize the shrinkage rate of electric microwave oven window is used in lieu of the original models, facilitating design optimization.
The effect of partial squeeze on the quality of casting products in the vacuum die casting was investigated to make defect free casting products with excellent mechanical properties. The partial squeeze and vacuum die casting process was industrially implemented in making reaction shaft support which was made of a hypereutectic Al-15%Si alloy. To combine squeezing and vacuum effects, the plunger injection system was designed and attached on the chill vent type vacuum machinery system. The combination of vacuum effect before injection and partial squeezing effect after injection resulted in defect free die casting products. The uniform distribution of fine eutectic and proeutectic Si obtained from trial process also provided excellent mechanical properties.
