Blind hydraulic backfilling is a commonly used technique for subsidence control of the strata over unapproachable waterlogged underground excavations. In this investigation model studies on all the three variants of this technique, namely, hydro-pneumatic or air-assisted gravity backfilling, pumped-slurry backfilling and simple gravity backfilling, have been carried out in fully transparent models of the underground excavations. On examination of the filling process, it was revealed that in all the three cases, the basic process of filling occurs by sand transport along one or more meandering channels. The relative influence of sand, water and air flow rates on the area of filling from a single inlet point and the hydraulic pressure loss per unit length were studied in details. In hydro-pneumatic backfilling process, the air bubbles while moving upward through the meandering channels provide an additional buoyant force over and above the available hydraulic head. In this way the area of filling from a single borehole may be quite large even at small flow rates of water. During actual field implementation the injected air, if not released completely from the rise side holes, may cause troubles by way of creating potholes on the surface. The pumped-slurry technique has shown its capability of filling a relatively larger area at faster rate, especially when high-volume, low-pressure method was selected. But simple gravity filling was also found to be equally effective method as slurry pumping, especially when flow rates were high. In the second and third method discussed above, examination of variations of injection pressure was also done and its relation with physical phenomenon was also attempted. Some empirical relationships were also developed using multivariate regression with a view to help the practicing engineers.

Objectives: In order to improve the working environment and solve the complaints, many efforts have been made to remove the odor from the industrial process. There are many disposal methods to remove odor, but there are many disadvantages and inadequate applications. The Purpose of this study was to develop a bag-filer system for odor removal using powder adsorbent. Methods: The bag-filter system is composed of a shear bag filter, an absorbent spraying system and an absorbent circulation system. The spraying absorbent system was connected with the inlet duct of the shear bag filter for inputting adsorbent. And the absorbent circulation system can transport the collecting adsorbent from hoper to the inlet duct of the system. As a result, the adsorbent can remove odor with recycling in the system. Also affective factors like the powdered absorbent combination and injection method was researched for maximization of system efficiency. The study was conducted in two stages. The first step was testing equipment made and the second is to evaluate the efficiency of the odor control by connecting to the actual odor generation process. Results: Both experiment stages showed efficient odor control ability. The adsorption efficiency of the system is demonstrated and the odor was adsorbed well by the powder adsorbent. It is essential to accurately understand the characteristics of the odorous and use the appropriate adsorbent. Although the powder adsorbent was used in the experiment, the problem of scattering did not occur due to the high degree of system sealing. Also the system manufactured in this study was designed to recycle the adsorbent, so adsorbent reuse or batch processing is convenient. Conclusions: The applicability of the system has been proven through this research. Customized systems for industrial process and the appropriate adsorbent base on the characteristics of pollutant generation will show efficient odor collection ability.
Ionomer is a thermoplastic that is composed of covalent bonds and ionic bonds. It is possible to use this material in processes such as injection molding or extrusion molding due to the material's high oil resistance, weatherproof characteristics, and shock resistance. In this study, a new ionomer having a multifunctional group was prepared by a stepwise neutralization system with the addition of acidic and salt additives. In step I, to increase the contents of the multifunctional group and the acid degree in ethylene acrylic acid (EAA), MGA was added to the ionomer resin (EAA). A new ionomer was prepared via the traditional preparation method of the ionic cross-linking process. In step II, metal salt was added to the mixture of EAA and MGA. The extrusion process was performed using a twin extruder (L/D = 40, size : ${\varphi}30$). Ionomer film was prepared for evaluation of gas permeability by using the compression molding process. The degree of neutralized and ionic cross-linked new ionomer was confirmed by FT-IR and XRD analysis. In order to estimate the neutralization of the new ionomer film, various properties such as gas permeation and mechanical properties were measured. The physical strength and anti-scratch property of the new ionomer were improved with increase of the neutralization degree. The gas barrier property of the new ionomer was improved through the introduction of an ionic site. Also, the ionic degree of cross-linking and gas barrier property of the ionomer membrane prepared by stepwise neutralization were increased.

Several methods that have been used to manage a degasing process in recent years, such as an injection method that uses aluminum molten metal powder and chemicals, and the input method that supplies argon and nitrogen, or chlorine gas using a gas blow-tube. On the other hand, these methods have some problems, and it is a difficult process to handle pollution due to the production of considerable toxic gases, such as chlorine and fluoride gas, irregular effects, and lowering work efficiency due to the excessive processing time. The problems that are most fatal are the production of considerable sludge due to a reaction of aluminum molten metal with chemicals, loss of metals, and the decreasing life of refractory materials. To solve these problems, this study developed a technology that is related to continuous casting of molten aluminum metal and monolithic degasing apparatus.
Most Waste slurry is produced in the process of silicon manufacturing for semiconductor industry, containing silicon (Si) and silicon carbide (SiC). Waste slurry is simply stored with solidifying by cement or buried. On the other hand, it was suggested in this study that the waste slurry should be used for heating source as supplementary material in steel making process. The waste slurry was refined and pulverized, which was recycled into SiC-based sludge briquette. Chemical composition for SiC-based sludge briquette was analyzed and the feature of heating source was observed in accordance with the injection time and input amount. As a result, SiC-based sludge briquette in terms of low cost and high efficiency had an effect on increasing liquid steel temperature in steel making plants.
The ignition delay of a dual fuel system has been numerically investigated by adopting a constant volume chamber as a model problem simulating diesel engine relevant conditions. A detailed chemical kinetic mechanism, consisting of 28 species and 135 elementary reactions, of dimethyl ether (DME) with methane ($CH_{4}$) sub-mechanism has been used in conjunction with the multi-dimensional reactive flow KIVA-3V code to simulate the autoignition process. The start of ignition was defined as the moment when the maximum temperature in the combustion vessel reached to 1900 K with which a best agreement with existing experiment was achieved. Ignition delays of liquid DME injected into air at various high pressures and temperatures compared well with the existing experimental results in a combustion bomb. When a small quantity of liquid DME was injected into premixtures of $CH_{4}$/air, the ignition delay times of the dual fuel system are longer than that observed with DME only, especially at higher initial temperatures. The variation in the ignition delay between DME only and dual fuel case tend to be constant for lower initial temperatures. It was also found that the predicted values of the ignition delay in dual fuel operation are dependent on the concentration of the gaseous $CH_{4}$ in the chamber charge and less dependent on the injected mass of DME. Temperature and equivalence ratio contours of the combustion process showed that the ignition commonly starts in the boundary at which near stoichiometric mixtures could exists. Parametric studies are also conducted to show the effect of additive such as hydrogen peroxide in the ignition delay. Apart from accurate predictions of ignition delay, the coupling between multi-dimensional flow and multi-step chemistry is essential to reveal detailed features of the ignition process.

This study is aimed to investigate changes of combustion characteristics and heat efficiency when syngas from gasification process using low-rank fuel such as waste and/or biomass is applied partially to an industrial boiler. An experimental study on syngas co-combustion was performed in a 0.7 MW (1 ton steam/hr) water tube boiler using heavy oil as a main fuel. Three kinds of syngas were used as an alternative fuel: mixture gas of pure carbon monoxide and hydrogen, syngas of low calorific value generated from an air-blown gasification process, and syngas of high calorific value produced from an oxygen-blown gasification process. Effects of co-combustion ratio (0~20%) for each syngas on flue gas composition were investigated through syngas injection through the nozzles installed in the side wall of the boiler and measuring $O_2$, $CO_2$, CO and NOx concentrations in the flue gas. When syngas co-combustion was applied, injected syngas was observed to be burned completely and NOx concentration was decreased because nitrogen-containing-heavy oil was partially replaced by the syngas. However, heat efficiency of the boiler was observed to be decreased due to inert compounds in the syngas and the more significant decrease was found when syngas of lower calorific value was used. However, the decrease of the efficiency was under 10% of the heat replacement by syngas.

A cement industrial by-product was used as a Ca source for the carbonation process. It was confirmed that the most of cement industrial by-products was composed of CaO and KCl through ICP and XRD analyses. The optimal extractant type and concentration was 1.5 M of hydrochloric acid, and the solid/liquid ratio was 0.1 g/mL. It was assumed that the cation extraction efficiency was dependent of the pair ions and their binding formation and also the solubility from extraction efficiency results by varing extractants. After extraction process, it was also confirmed that the cation could be selectively separated from the solution with respect to the kind of additives and the injection order. When NaOH was injected into the solution to control pH values ranging from 9.5 and 13, impurities and $Ca(OH)_2$ were precipitated, whereas the separated K ion was precipitated in the form of KCl under the injected $C_2H_5OH$.
Hot stamping is widely used to manufacture structural parts to satisfy requirements of eco-friendly vehicles. Recently, hot forming technology using uncoated steel sheet is being studied to reduce cost and solve patent problems. In particular, research is focused on process technology capable of suppressing the generation of an oxide layer. To evaluate the oxide layer in the hot stamping process, Gleeble testing machine can be used to evaluate the oxide layer by controlling the temperature history and the atmosphere condition. At this time, since cooling by gas injection is impossible to protect the oxide layer on the surface of a specimen, research on a method for securing a quenching speed through natural cooling is required. This paper proposes a specimen shape design method to secure a target quenching speed through natural cooling when evaluating the oxide layer of an un-coated boron steel sheet by Gleeble test. For the evaluation of the oxide layer of the un-coated steel sheet through the Gleeble test, dog-bone and rectangular type specimens were used. In consideration of the hot stamping process, the temperature control conditions for the Gleeble test were set and the quenching speed according to the specimen shape design was measured. Finally, the quenching speed sensitivity according to shape parameter was analyzed through regression analysis. A quenching speed prediction equation was then constructed according to the shape of the specimen. The constructed quenching speed prediction equation can be used as a specimen design guideline to secure a target quenching speed when evaluating the oxide layer of an un-coated boron steel sheet by the Gleeble test.
In order to process plastic with similar mechanical performance to metal materials, it is necessary to improve the strength and hardness of core parts of the injection equipment in extrusion system. The tempering process is a heat treatment performed to reduce brittleness and improve elongation along with improvement of dimensional defects of martensite formed after quenching. In this study, changes in microstructure and mechanical properties according to temperature were evaluated after quenching and tempering of SM30C material. As a result, the strength and hardness were gradually decreased by tempering at 250~400℃, and the decrease was greatly increased under the tempering condition at 450℃. Under the tempering condition of 200~400℃, the main structure was lath martensite, and the precipitation amount and size of needle-shaped cementite increased along the lath with the increase of the tempering temperature. Most of the shape of cementite has a needle-like structure, and the formation of some spherical cementite is observed. Under the tempering condition of 450℃, a mixed structure of ferrite and martensite was formed according to the decomposition of martensite.
