Effect of 50 ㎛ class granules on the Injection Behavior of Brushite Bone Cement Prepared via Pre-dissolution Route

  • The bone cement used for vertebroplasty must be sufficiently injectable. The introduction of granules reduces the amount of liquid required for liquefaction, implying that higher fluidity is achieved with the same amount of liquid. By employing β-tricalcium phosphate granules with an average diameter of 50 ㎛, changes in injectability are observed based on the paste preparation route and granular fraction. To obtain acceptable injectability, phase separation must be suppressed during injection, and sufficient capillary pressure to combine powder and liquid must work evenly throughout the paste. To achieve this, the granules should be evenly distributed. Reduced injection rates are observed for dry mixing and excessive granular content, owing to phase separation. All these correspond to conditions under which the clustered granules weakened the capillary pressure. The injected ratio of the paste formed by wet mixing displayed an inverted U-type shift with the granular fraction. The mixture of granules and powder resulted in an increase in the solid volume fraction, and a decrease in the liquid limit. This resulted in the enhancement of the liquidity, owing to the added liquid. It is inferred that the addition of granules improves the injectability, provided that the capillary pressure in the paste is maintained.

  • Cleaning by injecting dry ice and water is a generally adopted trend these days to clean molds (injection, diecasting foundry, press, rubber mold, etc). This cleaning method is performed manually, or by installing multiple high pressure spray nozzles. We have manufactured a turbine cleaning module device that is able to clean diecasting modules at any position and angle in the space by mounting an articulated robot instead of the existing pipe type injection nozzle, to minimize lead time and enhance working yield of the cleaning process. In this paper, we analyzed process factors that are required to design the turbine module by reviewing number of revolution, and results according to different blade angles and thicknesses of the mold release injection turbine module, using computational fiuid dynamics (CFD).

  • In the present study, a new approach to predict the strength of sintered materials has been carried out and a new framework combining neck growth model and ideal pore model has been established based on the results of tensile tests on powder injection molded specimens with the various porosity. Powder injection molding (PIM) uses the shaping advantage of injection molding but is applicable to metals and ceramics. PIM delivers structural materials in a shaping technology previously restricted to polymers. 17-4 PH stainless steel powders with average diameters of 10 $\mu\textrm{m}$ were injection-molded into flat tensile specimens sintered at the various temperatures ranging from 900 to 1350$^{\circ}C$ for 1h. The relationships between strength and porosity were applied to the experimental results and verified.

  • Powder injection molding(PIM) is widely used for many parts in the field of automotives, electronics and medical industries, due to the capability of net shaping for complex 3-D geometry. Powder injection mold design for the dental scaler tip, a component of medical appliance, was presented. In comparison with conventional machining process, powder injection molding has many advantages, specially in price and dimensional stability, for molding dental scaler tip which has complex geometry. Both product design and mold design for dental scaler tip were presented. A PIM feedstock was made of stainless series(17-4PH, 316L, 440C) powder and a wax based binder. The 'rapid mold' concept was applied to manufacture the various forms and materials of dental scaler tip including vibration characteristics.

  • Efficient top-emitting organic light-emitting diodes were fabricated using copper iodide (CuI) doped NPB as a p-doped hole injection layer to improve hole injection from a silver bottom electrode. The enhanced hole injection is originated from the formation of the charge transfer complex between CuI and NPB. The devices result in high efficiency of 69 cd/A with almost Lambertian emission pattern.

  • Fiber composite materials are widely used in aerospace industries due to their high specific strength and stiffness. Especially, the increasing use of polymer composite materials for injection of automobile components has led to a considerable interest in the application of stress pattern analysis by thermal emission to these composite materials. Therefore, in this study the microstructure of glass fiber orientation at the parent and weld line of polycarbonate is observed by a light transmission. And we also investigate a stress concentration model of a notch including short glass fibers. Especially the polymer injection weld reorients the fiber to suggest a new method for the evaluation of inhomogeneous deformation.

  • Nowadays, automobile manufacturers are focusing on the reduction of exhaust-gas emissions because of the harmful effects on humans and the environment, such as global warming by greenhouse gases. Gasoline direct injection (GDI) combustion is a promising technology that can improve fuel economy significantly compared to conventional port fuel injection (PFI) gasoline engines. In the present study, ultra-lean combustion with an excess air ratio of over 2.0 is realized with a spray-guided-type GDI combustion system, so that the fuel consumption is improved by about 13%. The level of exhaust-gas emissions and the operation performance with the multiple injection strategy and exhaust-gas recirculation (EGR) are examined in comparison with the emission regulations and from the point of view of commercialization.

  • Statement of Problem: The residual monomer of denture base materials causes hypersensitivity on oral mucosa and intereferes with the mechanical properties of the cured resin. The amount of residual monomer is influenced by materials, curing cycle, processing method, and etc. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the residual methyl methacrylate(MMA) content of injection molded denture base polymer, and to compare this with the self-cured resin and the conventional compression molded heat-cured resin. Materials and Methods: Disc shaped test specimens (50mm in diameter and 3mm thick) were prepared in a conventional flasking technique with gypsum molding. One autopolymerized denture base resins (Vertex Sc. Dentimex. Netherlands) and two heat-cured denture base resins (Vertex RS. Dentimex. Netherlands, Ivocap. Ivoclar Vivadent, USA) were used. The three types of specimens were processed according to the manufacturer's instruction. After polymerization, all specimens were stored in the dark at room temperature for 7 days. There were 10 specimens in each of the test groups. 3-mm twist drills were used to obtain the resin samples and 650mg of the drilled sample were collected for each estimation. Gas chromatography (Agillent 6890 Plus Gas Chromatograph, Agillent Co, USA) was used to determine the residual MMA content of 10 test specimens of each three types of polymer. Results: The residual monomer content of injection molded denture base resins was $1.057{\pm}0.141%$. The residual monomer content of injection molded denture base resins was higher than that of compression molded heat cured resin ($0.867{\pm}0.169%$). However, there was no statistical significant difference between two groups (p>0.01). The level of residual monomer in self cured resin($3.675{\pm}0.791$) was higher than those of injection molded and compression molded heat cured resins (p<0.01). Conclusion: With respect to ISO specification pass / fail test (2.2% mass fraction) of residual monomer, injection molding technique($1.057{\pm}0.141%$) is a clinically useful and safe technique in terms of residual monomer.

  • In this study, the relationship between fiber orientation and mechanical properties with the injection pressure of polyamide-6/glass fiber composite materials manufactured by the injection molding process was investigated. Also, an actual experimental data and finite element model-based simulation data were analyzed. Specimens were manufactured through the injection molding process setting the injection pressure differently to 700, 800, 900, and 1000 bar, respectively. A morphological analysis and orientation of the PA6/GF composite material were observed using Optical microscope. Through tensile and flexural strength tests, the mechanical properties of the PA6/GF composite materials with the injection pressure were studied. As a result, it was confirmed that the mechanical properties were the superior under the injection pressure of 900 bar molding conditions. In addition, the mechanical properties of the actually manufactured specimen (PA6/GF) and virtual engineering S/W((Digimat, Abaqus) were used to compare and analyze the analysis results for the mechanical properties, and based on the reliable DB, the physical properties of the PA6/GF composite characteristics were studied.

Improved performance of n-type organic field-effect transistor with a non-conjugated polyelectrolyte layer

  • We characterized the n-type organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) with non-conjugated polyelectrolytes (NPEs) interlayers as the electron injection layer. Novel NPEs with various ions (Cl-, Br-, I-) improved the electron mobility from $5.06{\times}10^{-3}$ to $2.10{\times}10^{-2}cm^2V^{-1}s^{-1}$ in OFETs based [6,6]-Phenyl-$C_{61}$-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) when $PEIEH^+I^-$ spin-cast from 0.6% solution was deposited onto the PCBM layer. Reduced electron injection barrier (${\phi}_e$) at NPE/metal electrode interface was induced by dipole formation and led to increase the electron injection and transport. These findings are important for understanding how NPEs function in devices, the improvement of device performance, and the design of new materials for use in optoelectronic devices.
