  • Laser material processing is a very fast growing technology for various industrial applications, because of many advantages. Its major advantage of less and controlled heat input has been exploited successfully for the very critical application of aluminium alloy welding. This study suggested the occurrence source of weld-defects and its solution methods in a welding of lithium ion battery by pulsed Nd:YAG laser. In experiment, battery case has changed over joint geometry from welding of side position to flat one. In case of a electrolyte injection hole in order to seal it, welding is carried out after pressing Al ball. At this time, an eccentric degree, contact length and gap are worked as a major parameters. As improving the method of Al ball pressing, it was able to reduce an eccentricity, increase the contact length and decrease gap. As a results of a experiment, a sound weld bead shape and crack-free weld bead can be obtained.

  • In Taguchi's quadratic expected loss function used as robustness metric of performance characteristics, the mean and variance contributions are confounded. The consolidation of the mean and variance in the expected loss function may not always be the ideal approach. This paper presents a procedure for multi-attributes design optimization, where the mean and variance of performance characteristics are considered as separate attributes having designer's relative preferences for them and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution(TOPSIS) is introduced to attain robust optimal design. The effectiveness of proposed approach is shown with an example of a weld line minimization problem in the injection molding process.

  • In this paper deals with strength of glass fiber reinforced plastics produced by shouting machine was investigated by universal testing instrument. We can obtain following results by performing the strength evaluation of polymer composite material according as varied environment temperature. The effect of environmental temperature on Strength properties was more sensitive in the weld specimen than parent. When changed environmental temperature, variation of strength in the parent was much bigger than it of weld specimen, that is, matrix in the parent, orientation in the specimen ware more sensitive to environmental strength. Tensile strength of polycarbonate matrix was similar regardless of mold temperature.

  • This study has focused on manufacturing technique of powder injection molding of watch case made from zirconia powder. A series of computer simulation process was applied to prediction of the flow pattern in the inside of the mould to clarifying the change of sintering shrinkage depended on flow direction. The material properties of melted feedstock inclusive of the PVT graph and thermal viscosity flowage properties were measured for obtaining the input data in computer simulation. Also, molding experiment was conducted and the results of experiment showed that good agreement with simulation results for flow pattern and weld line location. On the other hand, gravity and inertia effect have an influence on velocity of melt front because of high density of ceramic powder particles in powder injection molding against the polymer injection molding process. In the experiment, the position of melt front was compared with upper gate and lower gate position. The gravity and inertia effect could be confirmed in the experimental results.

국부 금형가열에 조건에 따른 사출성형품 웰드라인의 강도 고찰 (Investigation of Weldline Strength with Various Heating Conditions)

  • Weldlines are generated during the injection molding process when two or more melt flows are brought into contact. The weldlines are unavoidable in the cases of presence of holes or inserts, multi-gated delivery systems, significant thickness change, etc. At the welded contact region, a 'V'-shaped notch is formed on the surface of the molded part. This 'V'-notch deteriorates not only surface appearance but also mechanical strength of the molded part. To eliminate or reduce weldlines so as to improve the weldline strength, the mold temperature at the corresponding weld locations should be maintained higher than the glass transition temperature of the resin material. The present study implements high-frequency induction heating in order to rapidly raise mold surface temperature without a significant increase in cycle time. This induction heating enables to local mold heating so as to eliminate or reduce weldlines in an injection-molded plastic part. The effect of induction heating conditions on the weldline strength and surface appearance of an injection-molded part is investigated.

  • An automated injection molding design methodology has been developed to optimize multiple quality attributes, which are usually in conflict with each other, in injection molded parts. For the optimization, commercial CAE simulation tools and optimization techniques are integrated into the methodology. To decal with the multiple objective problem the relative closeness computed in TOPSIS(Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) is used as a performance measurement index for optimization multiple part defects. To attain robustness against process variation, Taguchi's quadratic loss function is introduced in the TOPSIS. Also, the modified complex method is used as an optimization tool to optimize objective function. The verification of the developed design methodology was carried out on simulation software with an actual model. Applied to production this methodology will be useful to companies in reducing their product development time and enhancing their product quality.

  • Generally, Aluminum is superior to durability, light, and characteristics of the material are embossed luminant. So, these characteristics of aluminum will be used automobile interior parts by aluminum injection moulding. Especially, The external of Aluminum plate is engraved differing pattern by roller working. This working can use any longer and be seen gracefully. This is the reason why aluminum insert moulding is used. This feature of research can be characterized by simple process to customize aluminum sheet of blanking and forming process with internal parts of configuration if products are injected by aluminum sheet. Besides, to analysis completed Automobile interior parts to be concerned volumetric shrinkage, best gate location, fill time analysis and so on through the mold-flow before the aluminum insert moulding is worked.

  • The objective of this paper is to evaluate the material properties of SA312 TP316 and SA312 TP304 stainless steels and their associated welds manufactured for safety injection system of Yonggwang 3,4 nuclear generating stations. A total of 62 tensile tests and 46 fracture toughness tests were conducted and the effects of various parameters such as pipe size, crack plane orientation, tests were conducted and the effects of various parameters such as pipe size, crack plane orientation, test temperature, welding on material properties were discussed. Test results show that the effect of test temperature on fracture toughness was significant while the effects of pipe size and crack plane orientation on fracture toughness were negligible. Fracture toughness of the weld metal was in general higher than that of the base metal.

  • Molding properties of etched surface pattern are presented. Specimens, whose surface patterns are made by print-type etching, are investigated. The molding properties of surface pattern are estimated with roughness deviation of surface pattern on part and mold. The etching properties are related to physical properties of plastic materials and surface roughness of etched pattern. Also, flow mark and gate location can give influence on surface pattern molding. The experimental result can contribute to good molding of surface pattern in injection molding.
