The Making of a Nation's Citizen Diplomats: Culture-learning in International Volunteer Training Program

  • This study examines Korea's international development volunteer program as a citizen diplomacy initiative. Informed by a cultural perspective of transmission and relational models of public diplomacy, I examine the ways in which volunteer training incorporates cultural-learning into its program. The study finds that volunteer training is largely based on an instrumentalist approach to culture that places emphasis on learning the "explicit" side of culture, such as Korean traditional dance, art, and food as a strategy to promote the country's national image. In contrast, much less covered in the training program is a relational approach to culture-learning that is guided by a reflexive understanding of the "implicit" side of culture, or the values and beliefs that guide the worldviews and behavior of both volunteers and host constituents. Whereas the value of the volunteer program as a citizen diplomacy initiative is in its potential to build relationships based on two-way engagement, its conception of culture is mostly guided by that of the transmission model of public diplomacy. Based on the findings, this study calls for an integrated approach to culture-learning in volunteer training program to move the citizen diplomacy initiative forward.

  • When the present Learning System for Computer-Related Subjects Using WBI is implemented on the Web with the above characteristics to help students to study computer subjects without any limitations of time or space, they can easily attain the goals of learning, have computer-utilizing abilities or information capacity, and enhance their capabilities for self-initiative learning. This system enables the learners to carry out 'plan-do-see' for the contents of learning initiatively. The learners can study the practice part of the curriculum using multi-media, such as motion pictures, voices, images, and sound effects, vividly with a sense of actual presence. It helps the students to have an active attitude toward leaning afterward. without meeting the teacher or without any storage media, the leaners can submit their assignments or materials for performance evaluation via the Internet.

  • This paper introduces a robot-based learning system which is designed to teach multiplication to children. In addition to a small humanoid and a smart device delivering educational content, we employ a type of mixed-initiative operation which provides enhanced multi-modal cognition to the r-learning system through human intervention. To investigate major factors that influence people's intention to use the r-learning system and to see how the multi-modality affects the connections, we performed a user study based on TAM (Technology Acceptance Model). The results support the fact that the quality of the system and the natural interaction are key factors for the r-learning system to be used, and they also reveal very interesting implications related to the human behaviors.

수학에 대한 정의적 특성 및 학습 주도권과의 관계 연구 (Affective Characteristics in Mathematics and Relational Analysis of Affective Characteristics and Initiative in Mathematics Learning)

  • 본 연구는 학생들의 수학에 대한 정의적 특성을 조사하고 수학 학습 주도권과 정의적 특성과는 어떤 관련이 있는지를 알아보기 위한 목적으로 진행되었다. 이를 위하여 인천 지역의 초등학교와 중학교 각 1개교의 학생들을 대상으로 설문조사 연구를 진행하였다. 수학에 대한 정의적 특성은 수학에 대한 흥미, 자신감, 가치인식, 자기조절력, 수학 불안의 다섯 가지 영역에 대해 알아보았다. 연구 결과, 참가 학생들은 학년에 따라 정의적 특성이 나빠지고 있는 경향을 보였고 성별에 따른 차이도 나이가 들면서 점점 더 커지는 것으로 나타났다. 학습 주도권과 관련해서는 타인 의존적인 학생들에 비해 자기 주도적인 학습을 하는 학생들의 정의적 태도가 일반적으로 더 좋다는 결과를 보였다.

소셜 네트워크 서비스 활용 수업에서의 교육적 효과 고찰 (A study of the educational effects in SNS-utilized instruction)

  • 본 연구는 SNS를 활용한 수업에서 자기중심적 활동과 사회적 상호작용을 추가한 사회적 활동으로 구분하여 자기주도성, 정보기술에 대한 태도 및 자기효능감에 미치는 영향을 비교하였다. 연구방법은 비동등성 실험군 원시실험설계를 활용하였다. 자료 분석은 대응표본(paired t-test) 검증과 내용분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과에 의하면 SNS 수업을 활용한 자기중심적 활동은 자기주도성과 정보기술에 대한 태도에 효과가 있었으며, 사회적 상호작용이 추가된 사회적 활동은 자기주도성, 정보기술에 대한 태도 및 자기효과성에 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 SNS를 활용한 수업의 교육효과에 대한 내용분석에서는 정보의 공유 및 즉시성, 접근성 측면을 장점으로, 정보보안과 사생활 노출은 문제점으로 제시하였다. 즉 SNS를 활용한 수업에서 자기중심적 활동과 사회적 상호작용을 병행 할 경우, 학습자 스스로 계획하고, 실행하는 자기주도성 향상과 학업능력을 나타낼 수 있는 정보기술에 태도가 향상되고 개별 학업 만족도를 나타낼 수 있는 정보기술에 대한 자기효능감이 향상되는 것을 확인 할 수 있었다.

The Effect of Idesolide on Hippocampus-dependent Recognition Memory

  • Finding a way to strengthen human cognitive functions, such as learning and memory, has been of great concern since the moment people realized that these functions can be affected and even altered by certain chemicals. Since then, plenty of endeavors have been made to look for safe ways of improving cognitive performances without adverse side-effects. Unfortunately, most of these efforts have turned out to be unsuccessful until now. In this study, we examine the effect of a natural compound, idesolide, on hippocampus-dependent recognition memory. We demonstrate that idesolide is effective in the enhancement of recognition memory, as measured by a novel object recognition task. Thus, idesolide might serve as a novel therapeutic medication for the treatment of memoryrelated brain anomalies such as mild cognitive impairment(MCI) and Alzheimer's disease.

융합기업의 기업가정신이 학습지향성에 미치는 영향 (The Entrepreneurship of Convergence Companies Affect Learning Orientation)

  • 2008년 글로벌 금융위기 이후 세계 각국은 생존하기 위한 필수전략으로 창업 및 기업가 정신의 활성화를 강조하고 있다. 선진국의 사례를 살펴보면 우선 미국, 유럽연합, 중국 등이 창업 및 기업가정신 활성화를 적극적으로 추진하고 있으며 이는 큰 성과로 나타나고 있다. 한편 우리나라의 경우 기업의 성장이 정체되고 그 해결책으로 기업내 또는 기업간 융합을 통한 경쟁력 강화에 힘쓰면서 기업가정신의 중요성은 더욱 강조되고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 우리나라기업의 경쟁력 제고를 위하여 기업가정신과 학습지향성간의 영향관계를 살펴보고 이를 기반으로 한 융합기업의 성장을 위한 경영전략의 기초가 되고자 하였다. 본 연구의 진행을 위해서는 융합기업을 대상으로 하였으며, 설문지조사를 통하여 통계프로그램을 통하여 가설을 검증하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 혁신성은 학습지향성에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 진취성은 학습지향성에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 위험감수성은 학습지향성에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다.

Renzulli 수학 영재 교수-학습 모형 적용에 관한 연구

  • In this paper we apply to Renzulli's Teaching and Learning models for mathematically gifted students based on the gifted science education center in university. Gifted students were very positive reaction in solving problems creatively using this program, and they were challenging and very confident performing new tasks. They reacted variously in debates with their classmates, in self-initiative studying. So more positive changes are needed for the activities using the gifted learning-teaching program to let each student have full use of his or her possibility and potential.

온라인 학습환경에서 학습참여동기와 협력적 자기효능감이 지식공유행동에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Learning Participation Motivation and Self-Efficacy for Group Work on Knowledge Sharing Behavior in Online Learning Environment)

  • This study analyzed the effects of learning participation motivation and collaborative self-efficacy on knowledge sharing behavior in an online learning environment. Collaborative learning in the online learning environment took the initiative in team formation, learning topic selection, learning planning and execution, and reflection. Collaborative learning was operated as an extracurricular program, and a survey was conducted targeting students who finally completed all learning activities. The results of the study are as follows. First, goal-oriented motivation and self-Efficacy for group work, showed significant influence on knowledge sharing behavior. Second, activity-oriented motivation did not show a statistically significant effect relationship. Interpreting the analysis results, it can be judged that the higher the goal-oriented motivation and self-Efficacy for group work of students who performed collaborative learning in an online learning environment, the higher the willingness to share knowledge, skills, and information they know. This study explored the outcomes of collaborative learning conducted in an online learning environment. It is meaningful that the learner's learning participation motivation was identified and the effect of self-Efficacy for group work, which can be expressed in collaborative learning situations, on knowledge sharing behavior, which is a necessary behavior for group performance, is significant.
