The objective of this study is to develop a method that is able to realize autonomous traveling for tractor-like robot on the slope terrain. A neural network (NN) and genetic algorithms (GAs) have been used for resolving nonlinear problems in this system. The NN is applied to create a vehicle simulator that is capable to describe the motion of the tractor robot on the slope, while it is impossible by the common dynamics way. Using this vehicle simulator, a control law optimized by GAs was established and installed in the computer to control the steering wheel of tractor robot. The autonomous traveling carried out on a 14-degree slope had initial successful results.

This study is to investigate the dispersion characteristics of diesel fuel spray in the initial stage of the beginning of the injection under the condition of room temperature and atmospheric pressure. It is difficult to analyse that the diesel fuel spray in diesel engine has unsteady intermittent spray. So author installed a fuel accumulator and an electromagnetic controller in order to keep the constant fuel injection rate with the time variation. With this modified fuel injection system, spray tip penetration, spray angle and initial spray development process are investigated by instantaneous photographic method. The results obtained in this study are as follows : 1) The initial shape of injection of diesel fuel spray shows the form of non-disintegrated intact core, but the formation of ligaments increasingly grows as the time increases. It can also be shown that fine droplets become disintegrated out from the ligaments. 2) The slope of spray tip penetration was changed to two different tendencies with time. The transition point of the slope is shown at the time of around between 0.09 msec and 0.4 msec from the beginning of injection. This is transition time from non-disintegrated intact core to formation of ligaments.

Embankment Slope (or Fill Slope) is defined as artificial slope formed by the filling of soil or rocks on the original ground. Recently a lot of embankment failures and collapse has occurred due to the increase of torrential rainfall and typhoons. Embankment collapse has lead to a great loss of lives and property therefore there is a need to establish a systematic embankment slope management system that will handle the maintenance and repair of risky embankment slopes. The objective of this study is to establish an "Embankment Slope Management Method" for embankment slopes located along national highways all over Korea. The method for field investigation of embankment slopes was recommended and the system for investment priority determination was also developed. The factors that lead to the collapse of embankment slopes caused by natural calamities were also determined through the initial survey of embankment slopes located along river fronts and mountainous areas.
Although many researches related to monitoring and automatic measuring devices for early warning system during slope failure have been carried out in Korea and aboard, most of the researches have installed measuring devices on the slope surface, and there are only few researches about warning systems that can detect and warn before slope failure and disaster occurs. In this study, slope failure simulation experiment was performed by attaching sensors to rock bolts, and initial slope behavior characteristics during slope failure were analyzed. Also, the experiment results were compared and reviewed with varied slope conditions, i.e. shotcrete slope and natural slope, and varied material conditions, i.e. GFRP and steel rock bolt. This study can be used as a basic data in development of warning and alarm system for early evacuation through early detection and warning before slope failure occurs in steep slopes and slope failure vulnerable areas.
On development of mountaneous or hilly area, stability of cut slope should be provided to prevent undesirable landslides. When piles are used as a countermeasure to stabilize existing landslide, stabilities for both piles and slope should be simultaneously satisfied to obtain the whole stability of the slope reinforced by piles. In order to confirm the effect of stabilizing piles on slope stabilization, it is necessary to investigate the behavior of the slope, in which the piles are installed. In this paper, first, the countermeasures used commonly to control unstable slope in Korea were summerized systematically. Nezt, the behavior of piles and slope soil was investigated by instrumentation installed into a cut slope for an apartment stabilized by a row of piles. Instrumentation could present sufficient effect of piles on slope stabilization Construction works in front of the row of piles affected the displacement of piles and slope. The construction works were divided into four stages, i.e. initial cutting stage of slope, excavation stages for retaining wall and parking space, and construction of retaining wall. As the result of research, the applicability of the proposed design method could be confirmed sufficiently.
One-dimensional rainfall laboratory tests using gneissic weathered soil were conducted to investigate effect of antecedent rainfall on infiltration characteristics. Experimental results using samples from Chuncheon and Chungju sites showed that rainfall onto the ground surface decreased initial negative pore water pressure of unsaturated soils, which recovered gradually after the end of rainfall. Rainfall intensity increases water infiltration rate, and infiltration rate during main rainfall is faster than that of the preceding rainfall. It is considered that higher water saturation after antecedent rainfall increases water infiltration rate during main rainfall. In particular, Chungju sample with higher clay content had slower recovery of negative pore water pressure and infiltration rate. Numerical results using finite element slope stability analysis showed that reduction of initial negative pore pressure due to rainfall infiltration deteriorates slope stability, and diffusion of pore water pressure after the end of rainfall further reduces FS of the slope in the short term. Main rainfall after prior rainfall further reduced factor of safety of the unsaturated slope. Pattern of antecedent rainfall has a significant impact on the magnitude and distribution of initial pore water pressure in unsaturated soils which are controlling factor to assess factor of safety of unsaturated slope during rainfall.
Median frequency can be regarded as a valid indicator of local muscle fatigue. As local muscle fatigue develops, the muscle fiber conduction velocity decreases, the fast twitch fibers are recruited less, and consequently the median frequency shifts toward the lower frequency area. The aim of this study was to test the characteristics of the median frequency according to exercise load (30% and 60% of MVC on the biceps brachii, 40% and 80% of MVC on the vastus lateralis) during the fatiguing isometric exercise. Thirteen healthy male volunteer students of Yonsei University were recruited. After the testing maximal voluntary isometric contraction, three variables (initial median frequency, regression slope, fatigue index) from the regression line of MDF data were measured in each exercise load. The results showed that the regression slope and fatigue index were significantly different for the biceps brachii, but not for the vastus lateralis initial MDF was not significant difference according to the exercise load on both muscles. The regression slope and fatigue index could monitor physiologic muscle change during fatiguing isometric exercise. The results showed that two MDF variables reflect the local muscle fatigue according to the exercise load.

The finite element analysis of transient water flow through unsaturated soils was used to investigate effects of hydraulic characteristics, initial relative degree of saturation, methods to consider boundary condition, and rainfall intensity and duration on water pressure in slopes. The finite element method with shear strength reduction technique was used to evaluate the stability of slopes under rainfall. The slope-related disasters in Korea usually occur between July and September during the typhoon and localized heavy rain. This means that the rainfall is the most important factor that leads to the slope-related disasters. The slope-related disasters can happen at very short time and lead to big damage. To forecast the change of the heave of the groundwater in slope the Seep/w program was used.
To find out the power tiller's travel and tractive characteristics on the general slope land, the tractive p:nver transmitting system was divided into the internal an,~ external power transmission systems. The performance of power tiller's engine which is the initial unit of internal transmission system was tested. In addition, the mathematical model for the tractive force of driving wheel which is the initial unit of external transmission system, was derived by energy and force balance. An analytical solution of performed for tractive forces was determined by use of the model through the digital computer programme. To justify the reliability of the theoretical value, the draft force was measured by the strain gauge system on the general slope land and compared with theoretical values. The results of the analytical and experimental performance of power tiller on the field may be summarized as follows; (1) The mathematical equation of rolIing resistance was derived as $$Rh=\frac {W_z-AC \[1+ \frac{sl}{K} \(\varrho ^{-\frac{sl}{K}-1\)\] sin\theta_1}} {tan\phi \[1+ \frac{sl}{K} \(\varrho ^{-\frac{sl}{K}-1\)\]+\frac{tan\theta_1}{1}$$ and angle of rolling resistance as $$\theta _1 - tan^1\[ \frac {2T(AcrS_0 - T)+\sqrt (T-AcrS_0)^2(2T)^2-4(T^2-W_2^2r^2)\times (T-AcrS_0)^2 W_z^2r^2S_0^2tan^2\phi} {2(T^2-W_z^2r^2)S_0tan\phi}\] $$and the equation of frft force was derived as$$P=(AC+Rtan\phi)\[1+ \frac{sl}{K} \(\varrho ^{-\frac{sl}{K}-1\)\]cos\phi_1 \ulcorner \frac {W_z \ulcorner{AC\[ [1+ \frac{sl}{K} \(\varrho ^{-\frac{sl}{K}-1\)\]sin\phi_1 {tan\phi[1+ \frac{sl}{K} \(\varrho ^{-\frac{sl}{K}-1\]+ \frac {tan\phi_1} { 1} \ulcorner W_1sin\alpha $$The slip coefficient K in these equations was fitted to approximately 1. 5 on the level lands and 2 on the slope land. (2) The coefficient of rolling resistance Rn was increased with increasing slip percent 5 and did not influenced by the angle of slope land. The angle of rolling resistance Ol was increasing sinkage Z of driving wheel. The value of Ol was found to be within the limits of Ol =2\ulcorner "'16\ulcorner. (3) The vertical weight transfered to power tiller on general slope land can be estim ated by use of th~ derived equation: $$R_pz= \frac {\sum_{i=1}^{4}{W_i}} {l_T} { (l_T-l) cos\alpha cos\beta \ulcorner \bar(h) sin \alpha - W_1 cos\alpha cos\beta$$The vertical transfer weight $R_pz$ was decreased with increasing the angle of slope land. The ratio of weight difference of right and left driving wheel on slop eland,$\lambda= \frac { {W_L_Z} - {W_R_Z}} {W_Z} $, was increased from ,$\lambda$=0 to$\lambda$=0.4 with increasing the angle of side slope land ($\beta = 0^\circ~20^\circ) (4) In case of no draft resistance, the difference between the travelling velocities on the level and the slope land was very small to give 0.5m/sec, in which the travelling velocity on the general slope land was decreased in curvilinear trend as the draft load increased. The decreasing rate of travelling velocity by the increase of side slope angle was less than that by the increase of hill slope angle a, (5) Rate of side slip by the side slope angle was defined as $ S_r=\frac {S_s}{l_s} \times$ 100( %), and the rate of side slip of the low travelling velocity was larger than that of the high travelling velocity. (6) Draft forces of power tiller did not affect by the angular velocity of driving wheel, and maximum draft coefficient occurred at slip percent of S=60% and the maximum draft power efficiency occurred at slip percent of S=30%. The maximum draft coefficient occurred at slip percent of S=60% on the side slope land, and the draft coefficent was nearly constant regardless of the side slope angle on the hill slope land. The maximum draft coefficient occurred at slip perecent of S=65% and it was decreased with increasing hill slope angle $\alpha$. The maximum draft power efficiency occurred at S=30 % on the general slope land. Therefore, it would be reasonable to have the draft operation at slip percent of S=30% on the general slope land. (7) The portions of the power supplied by the engine of the power tiller which were used as the source of draft power were 46.7% on the concrete road, 26.7% on the level land, and 13~20%; on the general slope land ($\alpha = O~ 15^\circ ,\beta = 0 ~ 10^\circ$) , respectively. Therefore, it may be desirable to develope the new mechanism of the external pO'wer transmitting system for the general slope land to improved its performance.l slope land to improved its performance.
The initial mass functions (IMF) of 15 selected open clusters are investigated by making use of C-M diagrams and theoretical evolutionary tracks. Among 15 clusters 13 have peaks in their IMFs and it is thought to be not due to incomplete photometry but to intrinsic property. The mass where IMF peaks is about $2\;M_{\odot}$ and it is similar to that of the second peak in the IMF of nearby field stars. The mean slope of the IMF in the high mass part is $1.9{\pm}0.6$ with some variations among clusters. But there seems to be no correlation between the slope and physical parameters such as ages, diameters, and metal abundances.
