A study on the Mycelial Growth of Morchella esculenta (곰보버섯 균사체 배양에 관한 연구)

  • This study was carred out to get the basic conditions for the mycelial growth of Morchella esculenta in shaking flask culture. The optimal temperature and initial pH of mycelial growth of Morchella escuzenta were 25$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$ and 6.5, respectively. The optimal medium was BG medium. Among the carbon sources tested, fructose was favorable for the mycelial growth and optimal fructose concentration was 5.0% (w/v). As nitrogen sources, peptone and NH$_4$Cl appeared to be favorable and optimal concentration was 4.0% [(w/v), ratio of 1:1].

Advanced wastewater treatment capacity and growth of Chlorella vulgaris by nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations (N, P 농도에 따른 Chlorella vulgaris의 성장 및 하수고도처리능 평가)

  • The growth and removal capacity of nitrogen and phosphorus of Chlorella vulgaris were evaluated in artificial wastewater with different nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations as element growing components for microalgae growth. The nitrogen concentration was varied in 9, 15, 30 and 60 mg-N/L with fixed phosphorus concentration of 3 mg-P/L. The growth and phosphorus removal capacity of C. vulgaris were high at initial nitrogen concentration of 15 and 30 mg-N/L, and the corresponding N/P ratios calculated were 5 and 10. In the case of varying in 1.5, 3, 6 and 10 mg-P/L of phosphorus concentration with fixed nitrogen concentration of 30 mg-N/L, the growth and removal capacity of nitrogen and phosphorus were excellent with phosphorus concentration of 3 and 6 mg-P/L. The corresponding N/P ratios were shown as 10 and 5. Therefore, the appropriate N/P ratio was concluded between 5 and 10 for wastewater treatment using C. vulgaris.

  • The Purpose of this study is to analyze the contribution of the total human capital formation to economic growth in Korea. In order to assess the contribution of the total human capital formation to economic growth, aggregate production functions are estimated using two ways of ordinary least squares and polynomial distributed lags based on 1955 - 1988 time series data in Korea. The total amount of investment in human capital is calculated by adding each amount of investment in formal education, vocational training, inter-provincial migration, and health in pecuniary terms. The findings of this study could be summarized as follows ; (1) If we enumerate the variables in good order according to the importance, we get the following ; namely, total number of labor force, inter-provincial migration, vocational training, health, physical capital, and formal education. (2) The contribution of the human capital to economic growth is much more larger than that of physical capital. In particular, it appears that inter-provincial migration and vocational training make a great contribution to economic growth. (3) It appears that investment in formal education has a continuous effect for fifteen years and maximum effect is observed approximately eight years later. In the case of vocational training, the effect of investment lasts for about 12-14 years and its effect on economic growth reaches maximum with the passage of seven to eight years after initial investment. (4) Investment in vocational training contributes more in the long run compared with investment in formal education. The effect of investment in formal education lasts longer than that of vocational training, while the effect of investment in vocational training is considerably larger in the short run compared with the investment in formal education.

As BEP Effects on the Properties of InAs Thin Films Grown on Tilted GaAs(100) Substrate (기울어진 GaAs(100) 기판 위에 성장된 InAs 박막 특성에 대한 As BEP 효과)

  • The InAs thin films were grown on GaAs(100) substrate with $2^{\circ}C$ tilted toward [$0\bar{1}\bar{1}$] with different As beam equivalent pressure (BEP) by using molecular beam epitaxy. Growth temperature and thickness of the InAs thin films were $480^{\circ}C$ and 0.5 ${\mu}m$, respectively. We studied the relation between the As BEP and the properties of InAs thin films. The properties of InAs thin films were observed by reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED), optical microscope, and Hall effect. The growth, monitored by RHEED, was produced through an initial 2D (2-dimensional) nucleation mode which was followed by a period of 3D (3-dimensional) island growth mode. Then, the 2D growth recovered after a few minutes and the streak RHEED pattern remained clear till the end of growth. The crystal quality of InAs thin films is dependent strongly on the As BEP. When the As BEP is $3.6{\times}10^{-6}$ Torr, the InAs thin film has a high electron mobility of 10,952 $cm^2/Vs$ at room temperature.

Analysis of Temperature Effects on Microbial Growth Parameters and Estimation of Food Shelf Life with Confidence Band

  • As a way to account for the variability of the primary model parameters in the secondary modeling of microbial growth, three different regression approaches were compared in determining the confidence interval of the temperature-dependent primary model parameters and the estimated microbial growth during storage: bootstrapped regression with all the individual primary model parameter values; bootstrapped regression with average values at each temperature; and simple regression with regression lines of 2.5% and 97.5% percentile values. Temperature dependences of converted parameters (log $q_o$, ${\mu}_{max}^{1/2}$, log $N_{max}$) of hypothetical initial physiological state, maximum specific growth rate, and maximum cell density in Baranyi's model were subjected to the regression by quadratic, linear, and linear function, respectively. With an advantage of extracting the primary model parameters instantaneously at any temperature by using mathematical functions, regression lines of 2.5% and 97.5% percentile values were capable of accounting for variation in experimental data of microbial growth under constant and fluctuating temperature conditions.

Fracture Toughness and Crack Growth Resistance of the Fine Grain Isotropic Graphite

  • Three point bending tests of single edge notched beam (SENB) specimens were carried out to evaluate the fracture behavior of the fine-grain isotropic nuclear grade graphite, IG-11. To measure the crack initiation point and the subsequent crack growth, the direct current potential drop (DCPD) method and a traveling microscope were used. The effects of test variables like initial crack length, specimen thickness, notch type and loading rate on the measured fracture toughness, $K_Q$, were investigated. Based on the test results, the ranges of the test variables to measure the reliable fracture toughness value were proposed. During the crack growth, the rising R-curve behavior was observed in IG-11 graphite when the superficial crack length measured on the specimen surface was used. The increase of crack growth resistance was discussed in terms of crack bridging, crack meandering, crack branching, microcracking and crack deflection, which increase the surface energy and friction force.

  • In this study, we looked into the method to establish fire growth rate by buildings use for growing fire at the beginning of a fire considering the characteristics of the combustibles in a performance-based design. Actual conditions survey and literature review were carried out for the fire load and exposed surface area of combustibles to establish design fire by domestic building use. As a results, a simplified prediction equation of fire growth rate which depends on fire load and weight of combustibles could be derived by calculating the relation between the fire load and the fire growth rate of an initial fire through investigation of combustibles by domestic building use.Also, as a result of analyzing the placement of combustibles and location of the ignition source, it was found that the influence of the materials of the combustibles and the materials of the combustibles adjacent to the ignition source is big. Though 4 different experiments were carried out for the evaluation, the result of comparing the findings with those of FGR model showed that the fire growth rate was similarly derived.

Movpe Growth of InP/GaAs and GalnAs/GaAs from EDMln, TBP and TBAs (EDMln, TBP와 TBAs를 이용한 InP/GaAs와 GalnAs/GaAs의 MOVPE 성장)

  • The heteroepitaxial growth of InP and GaInAs on GaAs substrates has been studied by using a new combination of source materials: ethyldimethylindium (EDMIn) and trimethylgallium (TMGa) as group III sources, and tertiarybutylarsine (TBAs) and tertiarybutylphosphine (TBP) as group V sources. Device quality InP heteroepitaxial layers were obtained by using a two-step growth process under atmospheric pressure, involving a growth of an initial nucleation layer at low temperature followed by high temperature annealing and the deposition of epitaxial layer at a growth temperature. The continuity and thickness of nucleation layer were important parameters. The InP layers deposited at 500$^{\circ}$- 55$0^{\circ}C$ are all n-type, and the electron concentration decreases with decreasing TBP/EDMIn molar ratio. The excellent optical quality was revealed by the 4.4 K photoluminescence (PL) measurement with the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 4.94 meV. Epitaxial Ga\ulcorner\ulcorner\ulcornerIn\ulcorner\ulcorner\ulcornerAs layers have been deposited on GaAs substrates at 500$^{\circ}$ - 55$0^{\circ}C$ by using InP buffer layers. The composition of GaInAs was determined by optical absorption measurements.

Shape Control of Gold Nanocrystal: Synthesis of Faceted Gold Nanoparticles and Construction of Morphology Diagram

  • Shape control of gold nanocrystal is still one of the most important challenges remaining to achieve geometry dependent properties. Thus far, several strategies have been developed to control the shape of nanoparticles, such as adding capping agents and diverse additives or adjusting the temperature and pH. Here, we used an already established seed-mediated method that allowed us to focus on controlling the growth stage. Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and ascorbic acid (AA) were used as the ligand and the reducing agent, respectively, without using any additional additives during the growth stage. We investigated how the relative ratio of CTAB and AA concentrations could be a major determinant of nanoparticle shape over a wide concentration range of CTAB and AA. As a result, a morphology diagram was constructed experimentally that covered the growth conditions of rods, cuboctahedra, cubes, and rhombic dodecahedra. The trends in the morphology diagram emphasize the importance of the interplay between CTAB and AA. Furthermore, high-index faceted gold nanocrystal was obtained by two step seeded growth. Already synthesized cubic particles developed into hexoctahedral nanocrystal consisting of 48 identical {321} facets, which indicates that the growth of gold nanocrystal is affected by initial morphology of seed particles. The hexoctahedral gold nanoparticles can be used in catalysis and optical applications which exploiting their unique geometry. Our research can provide useful guidelines for designing various facetted geometries.

A study on the Mycelial Growth of Lentinus lepideus in Liquid Culture (액체배양에서 잣버섯 균사체 배양에 관한 연구)

  • This study was carried out to get the basic data for the mycelial growth of Lentinus lepideus in liquid culture. The optimal temperature and initial pH of mycelial growth of Lentinus lepideus were $25^{\circ}C$ and pH 5.5, respectively. The optimal medium was YMG medium. Among the carbon sources tested, glucose was effected to the mycelial growth and optimal glucose concentration was 4% (w/v). As nitrogen sources, malt extract and yeast extract appeared to be favorable and optimal malt extract and yeast extract [ratio (w/w) of 1:1] concentration was 1.5% (w/v).
