Initial Timing Acquisition for Binary Phase-Shift Keying Direct Sequence Ultra-wideband Transmission

  • This paper presents a parallel processing searcher structure for the initial synchronization of a direct sequence ultra-wideband (DS-UWB) system, which is suitable for the digital implementation of baseband functionalities with a 1.32 Gsample/s chip rate analog-to-digital converter. An initial timing acquisition algorithm and a data demodulation method are also studied. The proposed searcher effectively acquires initial symbol and frame timing during the preamble transmission period. A hardware efficient receiver structure using 24 parallel digital correlators for binary phase-shift keying DS-UWB transmission is presented. The proposed correlator structure operating at 55 MHz is shared for correlation operations in a searcher, a channel estimator, and the demodulator of a RAKE receiver. We also present a pseudo-random noise sequence generated with a primitive polynomial, $1+x^2+x^5$, for packet detection, automatic gain control, and initial timing acquisition. Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed parallel processing searcher employing the presented pseudo-random noise sequence outperforms that employing a preamble sequence in the IEEE 802.15.3a DS-UWB proposal.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of double-dwell hybrid initial acquisition in a direct sequence ultra-wideband (DS-UWB) system via detection, miss, false alarm probabilities, and mean acquisition time. In the analysis, we consider the effect of the acquisition sequence as well as the deployment scenario of the abundant multipath components over small coverage of the piconet in the DS-UWB system. Based on the simulation, we obtain various performance measures for the mean acquisition time by varying parameters such as the total number of hypotheses to be searched, subgroup size, and dwell time. We thereupon suggest the optimum parameter set for the initial acquisition in the DS-UWB system.

  • 통신 시스템에서 초기 동기 획득은 안정적인 송수신 성능을 위해 필수적이며, 특히 신호 대 잡음 비의 변화를 포함하는 다양한 통신 환경에서 동기 획득 성능의 분석은 시스템 설계를 위해 중요한 역할을 한다. 주파수 오차가 존재하는 경우 초기 동기에서 차등 상관 방식의 활용이 바람직하며, 기존 상관 방식의 적절한 변형을 통해 추가적인 성능 향상이 가능하다. 본 논문에서는 차등 상관기 출력 값의 분포를 확률적으로 모델링함으로써 초기 동기 시의 오율을 Marcum Q-function의 형태로 유도하며, 출력 값의 복소 합 또는 크기 합을 이용하는 확장된 차등 상관 방식의 초기 동기 획득 시의 오율 결정으로 일반화한다. 제시된 결과는 DVB-S2 (Digital Video Broadcasting - via Satellite, Second Generation) 표준을 포함하는 다양한 통신 시스템의 동기 성능 검증을 위해 활용될 수 있다.

  • This paper describes a Band-Selective Charge-Pump PLL(CPPLL) for clock recovery and clock generator. The proposed PLL satisfies fast acquisition time and low jitter characteristics simultaneously by reducing initial frequency error. The acquisition time of the designed Band-Selective CPPLL can be decreased down to 55% of a conventional CPPLL.

  • 본 논문에서는 IMT2000(FPLMTS)의 CAI(common air interface)의 방식으로 활발한 연구가 이루어지고 있는 CDMA방식에 대해서 가장 핵심이 되는 초기동기성능 분석을 Rician fading channel에서 수행하였다. false alarm probability, detection probability, test PN chip의 적 분구간을 변수로하여 double dwell방식에서 초기적분 구간길이에 대한 평균 최소동기획득 시간 및 신호검출 엄계값에 대한 평균 최소동기획득 시간을 분석한 결과에서 신호판정 임계치가 커짐에 따라 동기획득 소요시간은 그다지 증가하지 않음을 알 수 있다.

  • In order to enhance receive sensitivity in noisy environment, the previous initial synchronization method of GPS receiver for reference stations adopts not only the coherent integration method but also the non-coherent integration method. However, the previous GPS initial synchronization method causes the non-coherent integration loss, which is a dominant factor among the signal acquisition losses in noisy environment. And the non-coherent integration loss increases with the strength of noise signal. In this pa-per, a GPS initial synchronization method is proposed to enhance receive sensitivity of GPS receiver for reference stations in noisy environment. This paper presents that the proposed GPS initial synchronization method suppresses the non-coherent integration loss. Furthermore, with regard to the mean acquisition time, it is shown that the number of the search cells of the proposed GPS initial synchronization method is much fewer than that of the previous GPS initial synchronization method.

  • 본 논문에서는 지상파 클라우드 방송 시스템 (cloud transmission system)을 위한 수신기 초기 타이밍 획득 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안된 방식은 프리앰블 심벌 내의 다양한 반복패턴에 대한 자기상관 값들을 결합하여 동일채널간섭이 존재하는 클라우드 방송 시스템에서 타이밍 메트릭의 신뢰성을 향상시킬 수 있다. 전산 실험 결과는 제안한 방식이 클라우드 방송 시스템 환경에서 타이밍 메트릭의 신뢰성을 향상시킴을 보여준다.
