Microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) was chemically modified with two different silane coupling agents (3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane and 3-mercaptopropyltriethoxysilane) and lauroyl chloride. The surface modification of MFC was confirmed by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and contact angle measurements. Composite paper was successfully prepared with surface modified MFC and polyamide (PA) fiber. The surface modification of MFC not only prevented aggregation of MFC but also improved adhesive property between PA fiber and surface modified MFC. It was impossible to prepare papers of only PA fiber because there is no binder to connect PA fibers. That is, surface modified MFC as a binder in PA fiber played a crucial role in making composite paper. Composite paper with silane modified MFC showed higher tensile strength and modulus than composite paper with lauroyl moiety modified MFC. The structure, morphology, and mechanical properties of composite paper were analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and universal testing machine (UTM).
Carbon spheres (CS) were fabricated using glucose as a precursor in the hydrothermal method. Hollow TiO2 (H-TiO2) spheres with 200 nm, 500 nm, and 1,200 nm were synthesized by CS/TiO2 core-shell particles via a sol-gel and calcination method. H-TiO2 spheres with nano and micron sizes were characterized using FE-SEM, HR-TEM, and X-ray diffraction. The CIE color coordinate, solar reflectance, and heat shield temperatures of H-TiO2/polyacrylate (PA) composite film were investigated using a UV-Vis-NIR spectrometer and homemade heat insulation temperature measuring device. H-TiO2/PA composites exhibit excellent thermal insulation since the hollow structure filled with dry air has low thermal conductivity and near infrared light reflecting performance. The thermal insulation increased with increasing the hollow sphere (HS) size on H-TiO2/PA composites. The PA composite film mixed with H-TiO2 filled with 1200 nm HS reduced the heat shield temperature by 26 ℃ compared to that of the transparent glass counterpart.
This study investigated formaldehyde (HCHO) removal by preparing porous supports using domestic low-grade silica coated with Co-ZSM5 and Cu-ZSM5 as the catalysts. First, the sample of the raw material for the support contained 90% silica with quartz crystal phase, which was confirmed as low-grade silica. According to Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) analyses, the catalysts, Co-ZSM5 and Cu-ZSM5, were successfully coated on the surface of the porous silica supports. During the removal test of HCHO using the prepared Co-ZSM5 and Cu-ZSM5 coated beads, depending on the reaction temperature, the Co-ZSM5 coated beads exhibited higher removal efficiencies (>97%) than the Cu-ZSM5 beads at 200 ℃. The higher efficiency of the Co-ZSM5 coating may be attributed to its superior surface activity properties (BET surface area and pore volume) that lead to the favorable HCHO decomposition. Therefore, Co-ZSM5 was determined to be the suitable catalyst for removing HCHO as a coating on a porous support fabricated using domestic low-grade silica.
Purpose : We present a novel method for the analysis of blue light applied by the analysis method of David L. with optical experiment and blue light by measuring the transmittance by dividing it by the refractive power in the spectacle lens made by MR8. Methods : The lenses of -8.00D, -7.00D, -6.00D, -5.00D, -4.00D, -3.00D, and 0.00D manufactured by MR8 being sold in the market, were selected. The transmittance was measured at the intervals of 5 nm from 200 to 1000 nm with UV-VIS Spectrophotometers (SolidSpec 3700), and they were in range of the blue light (380 to 500 nm) analyzed by a David L.'s analysis method. Results : All of the MR8 lenses selected for this study almost completely blocked at the UV range. A lens of -8.00D was measured as the lowest transmittance of 59.56% in the blue light area and low values were measured at the blue areas 1 and 2 according to the analysis of David L.In the infrared ray area, the transmittance of all lenses gradually decreased. The average value of the luminous transmittance was 23.67% ~ 26.33% and then gradually decreased from -4.00D. Conclusion : Applying the analysis of David L., a minimum of 41.28% and a maximum of 46.60% were measured at the blue light 1 area and a minimum of 87.30% and a maximum of 97.55% were measured at the blue light 2 area. A minimum of 86.83% and a maximum of 96.55% were measured at the blue light 3 area, and the average was 94%. The luminous transmittance of the -3.00D lens was 26.33%, which was the highest, and that -8.00D was 23.67%, which was the lowest.

Polymers with various compositions of azobenzene and hexamethylene groups in the main chain were synthesized by a Schotten-Baumann reaction and their properties were investigated. The chemical structures and physical properties of the synthesized polymers were investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, polarized optical microscopy, and x-ray diffraction. The polymers showed an inherent viscosity of 1.28-1.36 dl/g and were relatively insoluble in most organic solvents. The melt transition temperature increased rapidly with increasing number of azobenzene groups in the polymer. When the azobenzene monomer content was more than 50 mol%, no melting transition occurred below the decomposition temperature. Among the polymers with a melt transition temperature, the MP-A3C7 and MP-A5C5 polymers were liquid crystalline materials and exhibited a nematic phase with weak liquid crystallinity over a wide liquid crystal temperature range. This difference in the properties of the synthesized polymers is likely due to the changes in intermolecular forces resulting from the linearity and polarity of the trans-form of azobenzene.
In this paper, we developed mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) consisting of SBS-g-POEM block-graft copolymer, ionic liquid (EMIMTFSI) and ZIF-8 nanoparticles to separate a $CO_2/N_2$ gas pair. The SBS-g-POEM is a rubbery block-graft copolymer synthesized through low-cost free-radical polymerization. The EMIMTFSI was dissolved into the SBS-g-POEM matrix and solution synthesized ZIF-8 nanoparticles were also dispersed into the copolymer matrix. The physico-chemical properties of manufactured membranes were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), which showed that the components were compatible with each other. The gas separation performance was confirmed by time-lag measurements showing $CO_2$ permeability of 537.0 barrer and $CO_2/N_2$ selectivity of 15.2. The result represents the EMIMTFSI and ZIF-8 nanoparticles improves the gas permeability more than two-times, without significantly sacrificing the $CO_2/N_2$ selectivity.
The royal seal, in either gold or jade, is used to symbolize Joseon's royal family, and it is made up of a Bonu (a handle), Bosin (a body), Bomun (a letter inscribed on the seal), and Bosu (a string attached to the seal). The Bosu was designed to enhance the seal's dignity and facilitate convenient handling. Bosu consists of Kkeun-mog and Bangwool-sul (decorated with gilt paper), which are made of Bangwool, Bangwool-mog, and Sul. In this study, the form survey, color, material, and composition of 318 Bosu pieces from the Joseon Dynasty and Korean Empire produced from 1441 to 1928 were analyzed. As time passed, the strings on the seals became longer and thinner. Bangwool-mog disappeared from the mid-1800s, and a ring appeared at the end of the Sul. Most of the colors used were scarlet, but orange and purple were also identified. Although most of the Bosu are silk, five Bosu from the 1900s and one Bosu from the 1740s (likely replaced in the 1900s) are estimated to be rayon. The gilt paper's main chemical components used to decorate the Bangwool-sul vary according to age. Until the mid-1800s, gold (Au) was used for the Sul and Bangwool, but since the mid-1800s, gold (Au) and brass (Cu-Zn) were used for Sul and Bangwool, respectively, and then brass (Cu-Zn) was used for Sul and Bangwool. While the Bosu was a seal accessory, it can be used to identify changes in the manufacturing techniques and materials of the period.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease accompanied by severe itching, mainly before five. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of 405 nm+850 nm LED light therapy on AD-like symptoms in NC/Nga mice. The mice were randomly placed in the normal (Vehicle), atopic dermatitis-induced (CON), and 405 nm + 850 nm LED light therapy (LED) groups. The LED experimental group conducted 405 nm+850 nm wavelength LED ray therapy for 10 minutes a day for seven days. LED light therapy research confirmed the improvement and improvement of Dermatics score and observed the reduction of epidermal tissue thickness caused by dermatitis. Based on the significant decrease of serum IL-1𝛽 and transdermal moisture loss and serum IgE concentration due to LED light therapy, LED light therapy can help restore normal skin conditions in mice that cause atopic dermatitis. This study showed the anti-atopic effect of infrared light and blue light. Light in mice with atopic dermatitis led to the simultaneous use of circular LEDs with two wavelengths.
Carbon dots (CDs) are few nanometer-sized carbon-based nanoparticles and emerging candidate materials in various fields such as biosensors and bioimaging due to their excellent optical properties and high biocompatibility. However, most CDs, emitting blue light, have limited their application in biomedical fields due to the low penetration of short-wavelength lights into the biological system. Therefore, there has been enormous need to develop long-wavelength emitting CDs. In this study, red-emitting CDs were successfully synthesized through the hydrothermal reaction of p-phenylenediamine with hydrochloric acid. In addition, the effect of the amount of hydrochloric acid on the formation of carbon dots, resulting in the variation of the chemical structures of CDs, were investigated, which was confirmed with the intensive structural analyses using infrared and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. It was found that the chemical structure of CDs governed their optical properties and quantum yield. Therefore, this study provides an insight into the role of acid in forming red-emitting CDs as the optimal probe for biomedical application.

In this study, we aimed to analyze the chemical changes that occur in Korean paper in an accelerated deterioration environment of 105℃. We selected the Korean paper produced with different types of cooking agents (plant lye, Na2CO3) and during different manufacturing seasons (winter, summer). The degree of deterioration of the Korean paper was confirmed by measuring the brightness, yellowness, and pH level, and the degree of change in each vibrational region of cellulose as deterioration progressed through infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The FT-IR analysis showed that, as deterioration progressed, the absorbance of the amorphous region in cellulose decreased, whereas the absorbance of the crystalline region slightly increased. X-Ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and Raman spectroscopy were performed to verify the changes in the crystalline and amorphous regions in cellulose indicated by the FT-IR results. Furthermore, the crystallinity index (CI) was calculated; it showed a slight increase after deterioration; therefore, CI was confirmed to follow the same trend as that observed for absorbance in the FT-IR results. In addition, as a result of Raman spectroscopic analysis, the degree of decomposition of the amorphous region in the cellulose under the manufacturing conditions was confirmed by the fluorescence measured after the deterioration.
