  • In this paper, we designed the computer input device for rehabilitation of people with hand disabilities. This input device is made up of two Gyrostar sensors attached in the orthnormal directions of x, y axes. Gyrostar is a sensor for angular Acceleration. This device is attached by the user's head side. Head movement is detected by analysing and processing the output wave signals from the sensors therefore enabling the user to move the mouse pointer that helps to operate the computer. This method does not necessitate a complex hardware or a long installation process, which was formerly the case, and uses real time algorithms which enables simple emulation of a computer mouse. The interface of this device and the mouse are the same.

  • Wearable input device that can make free-space typewriting possible is introduced. We named this device as $SCURRY^{TM}$. To measure the angular velocity of hand and the acceleration rates at the ends of fingers, we buried MEMS inertial sensors in this keyboard. We processed sensor signals to get the information on hand movement and finger-click motion. With this signal processing, apparent finger movements were depicted over the virtual keyboard shown on output device of a target computing system. In this paper, a finger-click recognition method is proposed to improve the recognition performance for finger clicking of $SCURRY^{TM}$. The proposed method is composed of three parts including feature extraction part, valid click part, and cross-talk avoidance part. The experiments were conducted to verify the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed algorithms.

  • Mouse is widely used in multimedia education. However, using mouse is not easy for user to get exact three dimentional (3D) user input and to manipulate delicately as the user can not know the surface information of virtual objects, which are typical drawbacks of using mouse in multimedia education, especially in 3D multimedia contents authoring. In this paper, haptic device is introduced to the 3D multimedia education. The haptic device provides 3D user's input information as well as haptic information of virtual objects such as surface textures, collisions and etc. which thus allow to enhance the task efficiency in multimedia education. Simple experiment results are presented to show the positive results of using the haptic device in multimedia education.

Augmenting Interactivity of Touch Pad by Adding Isometric Rate Control

  • In this paper, we present FloatingPad, a touch pad based device with better scrolling feature and more interaction styles than a traditional touch pad. When we interact with a real object like a picture or a book, we manipulate on the object, and we also move, rotate, and flip the object. We applied this idea into a touch pad. In FloatingPad, the touch pad is not fixed to the device. It is floating on the device; it can be slid on the device. Therefore a user can have additional degree of freedom of input by shifting and rotating the touch pad while having the traditional touch pad input. By using this technique, the interactivity of the touch pad can be augmented, and better scrolling feature can be provided by reducing clutching occurs on the position scrolling devices by using the movement of the touch pad as rate control. We implemented the prototype device and conducted a user study with three applications developed for FloatingPad.

  • The local information processing devices are devices that process information by converting voltage, current, and digital electric signals from legacy-type power facility into IEC 61850 based data. It acquires and processes the operation information of legacy-type power facility, performs control of power facility, and interlock function using internal logic. In particular, the time to convert data to process input and output information for a device is important because a number of protection relay input and output signals are handled by only one device. This paper introduces test methods and cases for measuring IEC 61850 communication function and input/output data conversion time of local information processing device.

  • IoT management hub has to request the WLAN AP list of the accessible areas in a place that is installed, or choose a specific WLAN AP you want to connect in order to be connected to the Internet. the specific method also is required to input the password when the security key was set. As that way, IoT management hub needs both the display device and the input device to see the list of WLAN AP and to input the security key. If the IoT management hub is consist of them, It is difficult to achieve the objective of the miniaturization and cost reduction. In this paper, we propose a method to connect to a WLAN AP network using a smart-phone without the display device and the input device.

  • This paper proposes both a novel tactile human-computer interface method and an improved algorithm for the wearable PC. Under the condition of Ubiquitous computing, the next generation PC aims at effective representation and integration of colors, brightness of light. sound, odor, taste and feelings. Also, it aims at human being centered man-machine interface. In spite of various functions of the wearable PC, for the convenience of possessing, hardware platform for the wearable PC should be small-sized and light weighted one. The main problems of making small sized PC are user interfaces, like keyboard, monitor and so on. The traditional user interfaces have critical limitations for reducing their size. In this paper, we propose a novel user input method and improved algorithm to constructing small sized, light weighted and wearable PC. And, we verify the effectiveness of suggested method and algorithm compared to the traditional algorithm.

  • This paper concerns extracting 3D motion information from a 3D input device in real time focused to enabling effective human-computer interaction. In particular, we develop a novel algorithm for extracting 6 degrees-of-freedom motion information from a 3D input device by employing an epipolar geometry of stereo camera, color, motion, and structure information, free from requiring the aid of camera calibration object. To extract 3D motion, we first determine the epipolar geometry of stereo camera by computing the perspective projection matrix and perspective distortion matrix. We then incorporate the proposed Motion Adaptive Weighted Unmatched Pixel Count algorithm performing color transformation, unmatched pixel counting, discrete Kalman filtering, and principal component analysis. The extracted 3D motion information can be applied to controlling virtual objects or aiding the navigation device that controls the viewpoint of a user in virtual reality setting. Since the stereo vision-based 3D input device is wireless, it provides users with a means for more natural and efficient interface, thus effectively realizing a feeling of immersion.

  • When the input sound is mixed voice and sound, it can be seen that the voice recognition rate is lowered due to the noise, and the speech recognition rate is improved by improving the MEMS device which is the H / W device in order to overcome the S/W processing limit. The MEMS microphone device is a device for inputting voice and is implemented in various shapes and used. Conventional MEMS microphones generally exhibit excellent performance, but in a special environment such as noise, there is a problem that the processing performance is deteriorated due to a mixture of voice and sound. To overcome these problems, we developed a newly designed MEMS device that can detect the voice characteristics of the initial input device.

  • With the increase in the use of mobile banking service, mobile banking has become an attractive target to attackers. Even though many security measures are applied to the current mobile banking service, some threats such as physical theft or penetration to a mobile device from remote side are still remained as unsolved. With aiming to fill this void, we propose a novel approach to prevent e-financial incidents by analyzing mobile device user's input patterns. This approach helps us to distinguish between original user's usage and attacker's usage through analyzing personal input patterns such as input time-interval, finger pressure level on the touch screen. Our proposed method shows high accuracy, and is effective to prevent the e-finance incidents proactively.
