  • Fair trade has received increasing attention from ethical consumers in the North Trans-Atlantic world. It is a movement establishing alternative trading organizations to ensure minimal returns, safe working conditions, and to provide continuity in the trading relationship for disadvantaged producers, especially women and indigenous people in the South. Despite of the growing fair trade movement in the U.S. and Europe, it is still in the introductory stage in Korea. Although fair trade has gained some attention because of the efforts of activists, most Korean consumers are still unaware of it. This paper is divided into four sections including an introduction and conclusions. In section two, I analysed sales of the fairly traded products and the websites of the fairly traded products sellers. In section three, I proposed two effective recommendations for the better marketing and promotion strategies of fairly traded products. One proposal is for providing consumer information, like fair trade certificates, consumer campaigns, and consumer information of the fair trade sellers' websites analyses. The other is for establishing the infrastructure to promote the consumption of fairly traded products such as consumer education, corporate social responsibility, social enterprise, fair trade town and school, and networking. This study is relavant to academics, non-profit fair trade organizations, manufacturers, retailers and governments.

  • The information society based on Internet has positive effects to provide us with abundance and comfort as well as enhancement of quality of life. But it also has negative effects which bring about more serious social problems than real life. These negative effects of the cyber space are especially critical to elementary school students who do not have good judgment capability and clear concept on cyber space. To solve these problems, we have to let them have ethical sense to respond to the dysfunctions of Internet. We need to enforce Internet ethics education at home and in school so that they can behave as responsible and moral behaviors in this information society. Because the most of the elementary school students usually use Internet at home, the role of their parents can be particularly important factor in Internet ethics education. The purpose of this paper was to identify the current status of the consciousness on Internet ethics of the elementary school students who are the creators of new culture on Internet and their parents who make great influence on their education, and to study what influence the consciousness on the Internet ethics of parents has made on the Internet usage of their children. Through this study, we try to provide the desirable direction for Internet ethics of elementary school students.

  • This study aimed at analyzing the educational needs of home economics teachers for food literacy cultivation education in secondary school home economics. A total of 192 home economics teachers were surveyed about their perceptions of importance and performance of food literacy education content categories and elements, and their priorities were identified. Among the 38 content elements presented, home economics teachers recognized that the current performance level was significantly lower than that of the importance over 34 content elements. Based on the Borich educational needs assessment and the Locus for Focus Model, we identified five content elements with 'very high' educational needs ('food security/food sovereignty', 'reducing food-related waste', 'food waste management and recycling', 'food-related waste recycling', and 'country of origin information'), and four content elements with 'high' educational needs ('genetically modified food', 'ethical food consumption', 'food additives', and 'eco-friendly agricultural products'). These results indicate that dietary education in secondary school home economics should emphasize both the production and disposal of food. The findings of this study suggest implications for the needs for a new dietary education in secondary school home economics that allows students to learn all stages of food system. These results can also be used as a basis for dietary education for cultivating food literacy in secondary school home economics education.

  • This study focuses on the problems of traditional ethics in the textbooks of 7th Moral Education Curriculum. As the fact that Traditional Ethics is an advanced elective of high school curriculum shows, 'traditional ethics' is an important part of moral education curriculum. Unfortunately, many have maintained that there are significant problems in the contents of traditional ethics described in moral education curriculum. The problems mentioned are: encyclopedic enumeration of the contents, incorrect information, content repetitions, placing too much one-sided emphasis on confucianism, lack of organic link between Korean and oriental ethics, and unlikeliness of accomplishing subject's objectives. This study raises more fundamental problems. The problems pointed out are as follows. First, the definition of traditional ethics in the textbooks is problematic. Second, there is a lack of examination on 'tradition'. Third, there exists a naive understanding that western ethics or thoughts are the causes of all problems and oriental traditional ethics is the cure-all for them. Fourth, viewpoints of orientalism or occidentalism are widespread in describing traditional ethics.

In particular, this study aimed to develop practical and shareable lesson materials. The data development procedure was developed according to the following four procedures. 'Development of data development plan, data development, verification of development data, and development of final data that reflects the verification opinions' At this time, in the data development stage, a theme-based design model was applied and developed. In addition, the development data were verified by conducting CVR verification for field teachers to focus on the validity and class applicability, and the final data were presented after the development data being revised to reflect the verification results. This study not only introduced the developed data, but also described the procedure of the data development process and the trial and error and concerns of the developers in the process to provide information on the nature of basic research to other field researchers who attempt data development.
