  • Interference from IEEE 802.11a systems affects ultra-wideband (UWB) systems significantly. In this letter, we suggest a novel narrow-band interference (NBI) suppression technique based on the singular value decomposition (SVD) algorithm in time-hopping pulse amplitude modulation (TH-PAM) UWB systems. The SVD algorithm is used to approximate the interference which then is subtracted from the received signals. In contrast to the conventional notch filter and rake receiver, our method is more effective and the receiver complexity can be greatly reduced.

  • In this paper, we analyze the effect of the coherence bandwidth of wireless channels on leakage suppression methods for discrete Fourier transform (DFT)-based channel estimation in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Virtual carriers in an OFDM symbol cause orthogonality loss in DFT-based channel estimation, which is referred to as the leakage problem. In order to solve the leakage problem, optimal and suboptimal methods have already been proposed. However, according to our analysis, the performance of these methods highly depends on the coherence bandwidth of wireless channels. If some of the estimated channel frequency responses are placed outside the coherence bandwidth, a channel estimation error occurs and the entire performance worsens in spite of a high signal-to-noise ratio.

  • The purpose of this study is to know clinical usefulness for fat suppression of the body curved portion compared with TSE-CHESS and TSE-SPAIR technique. A total of 25 normal volunteers without cervical spine disease were studied on a 3.0 T MRI scanner. As a quantitative analysis, PSNRs and CNRs were evaluated by using two methods for fat suppression of the body curved portion. As a results, PSNRs and CNRs for fat suppression were significantly greater for the TSE-SPAIR technique compared to TSE-CHESS technique. In conclusion, this study showed that a TSE-SPAIR technique has improved PSNRs and CNRs for evaluating of fat suppression in the body curved portion. These conclusions in the future will be provided information in diagnosis of fat suppression for the body curved portion.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel approach of an acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) algorithm which is differently adopted in the relevant period condition by the suppression parameter of a parametric wiener filter (PWF). The PWF uses the suppression parameter to compensate uncertainty of acoustic echo signal estimation. The existing PWF method using the fixed suppression parameter derives the distortion of the near-end signal at the double-talk. To solve this problem, the boundary condition is devised using decision of the double-talk detection (DTD) algorithm and voice activity detector (VAD). The boundary condition makes it possible to treat differently depending on the case of the single-talk and double-talk. According to the experimental results, the proposed approach is found to be effective for acoustic echo cancellation using the boundary condition.

  • One of the problems using DCR(Direct Conversion Receiver) are DC offset, poor channel selectivity. APDP(Anti Parallel Diode Pair) can be good candidate for DCR frequency mixer due to its inherent End harmonic suppression. APDP shows good IP2 and DC suppression. This paper describe single APDP LO power characteristics, IP2, and receiver structure utilizing APDP frequency mixer

  • We propose a novel noise littering method based on adaptive windowing. To restore a noisy signal adaptive filtering methods have been widely researched and used. However, conventional adaptive filtering methods have a trade-off between noise suppression and edge preservation since they adopt fixed size filters. In this paper applying the adaptive windowing concept to adaptive filtering, we overcome the trade-off, The filter size is adaptively selected depending on signal statistics. The visual results of the signal and image restorations convincingly show the superior preservation of edge and detail and suppression of noise for the proposed adaptive windowed adaptive filter compared with conventional methods.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of emotional suppression and burnout on the job satisfaction. Methods: We distributed questionnaires to 216 physical therapists and collected completed questionnaires from 193. We analyzed the data using frequency analysis, independent t-tests, analysis of variance. and multiple regression. Results: The results were as follows; 1) General characteristics of participants were 62.7% male, 43.5% less 30 years old, 31.6% working over 10 years in the hospital. 27.1% participants treated 31 patients or more a day, most(85.5%) participants were regular staff members. 2) Emotional Suppression, exhaustion and diminished self-efficacy were significantly correlated with job satisfaction. According to result of regression analysis on the job satisfaction, the job satisfaction negatively related with the diminished self-efficacy, exhaustion but positively related with the emotional supression. Their power of explanation regarding job satisfaction was 31.2%. Conclusion: These results showed that diminished self-efficacy was importantly influenced on the job satisfaction. So this result of the study means that we must improve the stratege for keeping efficient management.

  • The fire brigade non-suppression probability model is a major factor that should be considered in evaluating fire-induced risk through fire probabilistic risk assessment (PRA), and also uncertainty is a critical consideration in support of risk-informed performance-based (RIPB) fire protection decision-making. This study developed an optimal integrated probabilistic fire brigade non-suppression model considering uncertainty of parameters based on the Bayesian Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) approach on electrical fire which is one of the most risk significant contributors. The result shows that the log-normal probability model with a location parameter (µ) of 2.063 and a scale parameter (σ) of 1.879 is best fitting to the actual fire experience data. It gives optimal model adequacy performance with Bayesian information criterion (BIC) of -1601.766, residual sum of squares (RSS) of 2.51E-04, and mean squared error (MSE) of 2.08E-06. This optimal log-normal model shows the better performance of the model adequacy than the exponential probability model suggested in the current fire PRA methodology, with a decrease of 17.3% in BIC, 85.3% in RSS, and 85.3% in MSE. The outcomes of this study are expected to contribute to the improvement and securement of fire PRA realism in the support of decision-making for RIPB fire protection programs.

  • Fabry-Perot (FP) resonator antennas with scan capabilities are described in this paper. The proposed antennas, excited by a thinned array, not only achieve higher directivities but also improve suppression of sidelobes relative to that of the thin array alone. Compared to the conventional microstrip patch array, the directivity enhancement and suppression of sidelobe level were achieved by increase of the aperture size of the proposed Fabry-Perot resonator antenna.
